The story started out great, and I was really engaged in who and what the main character, Tomie, was. There is constant dread and disturbing imagery as one can expect from a Junji Ito story. Unfortunately, the story became very repetitive about halfway through, and I felt like my patience didn't pay off by the time I got to the ending. The fact that most if not all of the characters were unlikable did not really help. Without spoiling it, I can say that it does a good job of providing commentary on certain issues like victim blaming and jealousy for example. It's definitely not ...

I started reading Junji Ito from here, and I frankly feel like I should have just skipped this...
It's all undoubtedly very mediocre for a J-Horror saga.

Tomie seems to be a horror creature flimsily assembled from the discarded pieces of several other works, taking some bits of gothic horror, slasher flics, ghost stories, cosmic horror...
A patchwork of mismatched influences all centering on the character of Tomie, a monster with a human figure, but as irresistible as she's indestructible, a ''waifu'' Michael Myers.

The worst piece of shit I've ever had the misfortune to read. Repetitive, absurd, stupid... It's the same plot over and over again. I read it all the way to the end because I couldn't believe it. I thought it wasn’t possible to make such an absolutely disjointed story. It's as if he thought it would be cool to have a character that regenerates and without developing the idea one bit he started making 20 random chapters and since there's blood and boobs and there's not even half a joke some crazy person thought it’s an adult story and published it.
