Oh okay no problem, I hope your issues have been resolved then, I'm doing fine, just struggling with some issues like ear tinnitus, which is very mentally exhausting.

Yeah to be honest I kinda forgot about Superman and the Fantastic Four movie already since they weren't really memorable hahah but I'm curious to how the new Avengers movie will be since it's in 1 year.
I heard a little bit of Dispatch but don't really know what kind of game it is, is it a kind of point and click game?

Hahah yeah I know in the US it's a kind of fire challenge but I think the pole one is more exciting lol.

For the anime it's basically what you said as well but I would add Kengan Ashura, Ultraman, Romantic Killer and Gokushufudou. My favorite series is Breaking Bad as well lol, though I didn't watch too many series, I'll start watching more next year actually, the issue with these is that most series are very long, I didn't even watch Better Call Saul because of that.

Tbh I totally understand when I see how much sugar US sodas have, it's terrible, I like soda from time to time but mainly to try a new taste, but yeah in the end it wasn't worth it lmao.

My mother never really played video games but yeah my father was always interested even if he's from the generation that witnessed the birth of video games back then lol, but he mainly played PS1/PS2 back then, and then I grew up with Nintendo games just because their portable consoles were the first ones except for the PS Vita etc.

Hahaha yes to be honest I had no idea the tax price wasn't included I thought it was normal since it's like this in all european countries, it's confusing when you don't know the exact price in advance, that's kinda the same regarding the tips culture which doesn't exist here. But yeah I don't mind the American culture etc but living there is not for me, I'm too attached to European cities and how everything works here, I just couldn't live in a place where it's hard to access to cheap healthy food etc, even the way Walmart works shocked me, I had no idea it was mainly huge packs of products and that you can't buy only one (when it comes to these packs) in European it's illegal to be forced to buy a pack, you can always open it and just take on bottle/product

Hi, long time since we last spoke, hope you're doing well

How are you doing as of late? Any life-updates? :D

Hey!!

That's great for Thunderbolts! Regarding the Superman movie I’ve seen it and found it pretty interesting, especially since I haven’t watched much DC stuff before. I think James Gunn did a good job with the artistic direction, and I liked the political aspect of the movie. Overall though, it was still a bit basic but that’s kind of expected from a superhero film.
I also just watched the new Fantastic Four movie and that one was a bit disappointing.... It started strong with its humor and artistic direction blending high-tech with a 60s style New York but the rest of the movie had a very generic and predictable storyline, unfortunately.

That’s why rewatching stuff can be so interesting, sometimes (at least in my case), I end up thinking about a show so much that I feel like I need to revisit the characters and relive what made me love it in the first place (Probably why I’ve watched Kaiji all the way through like five times LOL)
I definitely need to watch Ghost in the Shell at some point... I haven’t seen it yet! xD I also ended up watching up to 6 seasons of Total Drama I think? I’m a bit burnt out now because I binged too much but I honestly think it’s a really good show mainly because it’s a parody of Survivor and I love Survivor lol I really enjoy the elimination format where someone leaves every episode, it makes it so addictive just like the real show.
By the way, we actually have our own version of Survivor here and I think the rules are even better than the original, especially at the end. When only four contestants are left, there’s an orienteering challenge where they have to search a wide area using maps and compasses to find three daggers in order to qualify. Then comes the legendary final challenge where the last three must stand completely still on poles in the middle of the sea until only one is left standing.

Which Netflix shows are your favorites?

Same for me... nowadays, when a show has "bad" animation, it automatically gets judged as a low budget or bad show overall. Our brains are just so used to seeing top tier animation, especially for the newer generation, anything that doesn’t look like Demon Slayer or Jujutsu Kaisen seems low effort by comparison :(

Well, I wanted to try as many American snacks and sodas as possible since they only exist there... but I realized I just couldn't do it :S Everything is SO salty and sweet they put like 2-3 times the amount of salt and sugar we can find in food and beverages here. I genuinely felt sick for a week after coming back. I just started to feel better but now I understand why there are so many health problems related to food there... Also, I understand why they banned Mountain Dew in Europe lol this is probably why I felt sick, because of the amount of sugar they put in it, but I had to taste it. (I have no regrets ahah)

I just grew up with these video games tbh, I spent most of my free time during my childhood playing Nintendo DS and Wii ahaha. Especially that thanks to my father I had both of these consoles hacked so I could get every game for free, just needed my father to download and install them so thanks to that I played hundreds of different DS and Wii games overall. They're just a constant part of my memory nowadays :)

So, kinda like in New York regarding the older and classic-styled buildings? Since this is the feeling I got when I was in New York and that's also why it was my favorite city to visit by far. Though if you say that Canada is expensive I'm surprised because I felt like the US is also extremely expensive compared to Europe. Though it's also maybe because the USD is weaker than the Euro so it felt like the prices were high simply because it cost more dollars than euros. I just can't get used to not seeing the actual price of what you buy because of the taxes, same for the tips culture. But yeah, New York is extremely different than Los Angeles of course but I couldn't really get used to Los Angeles... Except for the Hollywood culture and the weather, I just don't like the city compared to New York.

Thank you, I'm also curious to hear how Florida is because I kinda regret not visiting Miami even though it wasn't possible because I went to the Grand Canyon instead, and it was beautiful. Same for the Route 66 cities in Arizona and Las Vegas is fun to see one night because it looks surreal lol. Hope you had fun during your travel!

Hey there again!! Long time, no talk xD Things have only gotten more hectic for me as I've gotten further training into this role, so I do apologise for the period of silence. I really appreciate your kind words though <333 How's life been treating you? I'm really glad to hear that you've made so much progress on your passion projects and I appreciate the opportunity to get a first glimpse :D It's lovely to know you find so much enjoyment in your craft!

A friend of mine sent me this vid of a SSB64 player named Isai a while back and it reminded me a lot of the person you're describing. I don't know if this is the person you had in mind, but his story is so interesting and entertaining nonetheless. It's like you've said, watching these players absolutely dominate with what is agreed to be the worst players in the roster is just so entertaining. His story seriously plays out like some sort of movie. I'd highly recommend you give it a watch!

I haven't been much games myself as of late, but Clint Stevens has started streaming again so I've been watching a lot of Mario Kart World gameplay xD I haven't played any of the Touhou games before, but I'm aware of them and ZUN. I was recently watching Anime Tenchou, which has done a Touhou collab before. The full thing doesn't seem to be available anywhere online, but you seem to have it marked as completed! From what I'm aware, the Anime Tenchou Movie is the first part of it, so I've just based my rating off of that. Quite the talent ZUN has to create so many games and quite the feat to complete them all in a month, bravo you! xD
Haha I've seen a lot of heated discourse online about the new prices, crazy stuff! Nintendo finally breaking the seal and raising those prices allowed other companies to do the same! To play devil's advocate, those prices had stayed at ~$60 for a really long time at this point, so long-term inflation has meant they've been getting less for its worth over time. But at the end of the day, it's up to consumers to put their money where their mouth is and not pay the prices, which has NOT been the case xD Looks like good ol' piracy is back on the rise and like I've said before, this is DEFINITELY the year of indie games. It's already proven to be and these price increases only helped that!

I just came across your google doc and it is so interesting! I love reading your thoughts on media that we share such a love towards! You provide such an interesting insight and have informed me of new things I was unaware of. I loved reading Surrealist Influence on Texhnolyze & Serial Experiments Lain and learning about the the Dada artists that the shows potentially took inspiration from! Some of your topics also having reference lists is *chef's kiss*
Thank you so much for entertaining my not-so-frequent responses, I really do appreciate the conversations we get to have :) I want to wish you the best, not only on your projects, but life in general - It's important to maintain balance. Keep doing you, Enivlens! :D

Hello!

Yes it's great that they didn't forget about X&Y I genuinely thought they were hating these entries, I remember seeing so many hoax about Pokemon Z back then, I can't believe it's genuinely coming!!

Exactly, Batman is one the easiest base story to make your own good superhero movie, Superman too since it's very simple, a new Superman movie by James Gunn (the one who directed Guardians of the Galaxy) is coming this year, so it has a lot of potential.
Actually it's the contrary for the Marvel comics' storylines, I'm much more into the characters for their personality and powers than for their backgrounds lol, though when it comes to movie adaptation I don't mind as far as it's entertaining. I've seen the new Marvel movie "Thunderbolts*" and it was surprisingly good, it's with B tier heroes that are forming the new Avengers group, so it's original.

Sure, but in most cases the stuff I want to rewatch is often the ones I remember the most lol. Also it's just japanese anime productions in general, recently I started rewatch Total Drama Island because I used to love this cartoon and it's so addictive this is how I felt with anime during the early days xD

Yes in Jojo's it's even better that the style and animation are evolving through the parts, and of course you can compare the older adaptations to how they are done nowadays, I wonder if we'll ever get the full Jojo part 1 movie that is a lost media.

Ahaha but I think in most case it's just a matter of being motivated to start a long show, once you started it doesn't feel too long anymore as far as you like it but yeah in cases like Conan it's just inhumanly long..
Yes Devilman definitely proved that you can achieve a lot in only 10 episodes, sometimes we forget that 10 episodes is like 3h30-4h long, which is like a super long movie, but since it's a series it's very short in our heads and we feel like it won't be able to introduce and develop anything. Netflix produced a lot of great 1 cour shows to be honest, years before I thought Netflix would only produce bad shows.

Bleach's sequel is absolutely insane, the animation gap between the older anime and the sequel is huge, nowadays it's at the level of any great shounen in terms of animation and adaptation.

Yes, but no matter what it's great to collect these ones aha. It's kinda comparable to some Ghibli movies to be honest since the art style is always cute and mirrors the one used in the most "childish" movies like My Neighbor Totoro so when you first watch Princess Mononoke it's always surprising how dark it can be. But yeah it's mainly because they decided to adapt it 40 years later probably just because Tezuka's name is enough to sell the story xD The story can only feel outdated sadly.

You're welcome! I hope you have fun with it when you try it ahah :D

I like the name "double milk" for it ahahah but yeah when you think about it that's right, I rarely drink milk to begin with, it's just that I don't like the taste of milk without nothing added to change the taste, chocolate powder with milk is perfectly fine to me though. The mixture makes me think about funyuns lol do you like them? I heard it's very popular in the USA we don't have it here but I got to taste it at some point and I really liked it. Also speaking of cereals I always wanted to taste Froot Loops but these ones are everywhere in American TV shows etc but when I finally got to taste them I was disappointed, it wasn't that tasty to me sadly.

And I feel like it became more and more popular, there are so many criminology YouTube channels about courts and police interview analysis, I used to watch a lot of them to be honest, sometimes I just like to feel reassured that I'm not in this kind of situation, it makes you realize how worthy life is and that you need to cherish it...

In terms of animation there are so many of them and I don't exaclty know which ones you watched before so instead I can share a few of my fvorite Touhou related bands like any stuff by DBU, I'm not a big fan of Touhou re-creation musics but I think most of DBU songs are too awesome, I actually discovered this band through Mario Kart, yes this is not what you would expect xD I used to play romhacks of Mario Kart games especially on the Wii and around 2010-2011 I played Mario Kart Dragon Road which had many custom tracks with custom musics and two of them had these songs : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDx-zdLxiW4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSyjV0UHs4U this is also why these ones are so nostalgic to me nowadays.
Oh yes!! I've seen Musou Kakyou and this one is awesome, it's been so long since I watched it though lol, I rewatched a bit of it and it makes me want to fully rewatch it now xD I 100% agree with what you said, not to mention how impressive it is that a single person made it. ZUN is a genius.

Exactly! I will have to come back eventually since I'll obviously miss so many places I want to go, but it's expensive sadly...

I heard that there are a lot of indians in Canada so it's not too surprising I think it's the same for the UK, they are very rare here though so we don't have many indian food stores, it's a pity because I love indian food but I didn't taste everything, I just love curry it's one of my favorite spice so anything with curry is great xD Was Canada any different than the US for its buildings etc?

Thanks!! Well I had some issues with my family so I couldn't really do anything because unfortunate events happened to us (only temporary issues fortunately) but now we have another 4 days week-end and hopefully I'll be able to go back visiting Mont-Saint-Michel (maybe you heard about it, it's a very famous here for tourism) it's not too far from my home and even though I went visited it so many times it's always great to come here :D I hope you'll be able to have fun, do cool things or just rest a bit xD Have a great week as well!!
eekeen May 17, 7:00 AM
Hello!!! How is life treating you, anything new happening or have you discovered something cool since last time we talked? Thank you, I'm happy to hear you say such kind words. It's still going great! :D

I've noticed that about you, but also I dont blame you. Finding that hidden gem practically no one talks about, ughhh, that feeling is unmatched. Oh, god; hearing you mention all these visual novels like that makes me feel a bit overbearing. They're all incredible in their own right, but it's such a huge time-investment on your end. I'm happy you're even considering playing them, I appreciate that so much! But please, don't feel forced to! Do it out of your own volition, I really do not want to over-impose. I've heard of Muv Luv, it's quite popular I think? I follow this Visual Novel YouTube called "The August Hail" and I swear I've seen him talk about it. That's also the guy that I found The Shell from. Kajsa and I has started watching a show called "You". It's non-anime-related, but it's about this guy forming a severe stalking complex towards a woman he finds interesting, and it's shaping up to be something I thoroughly can enjoy. You know what I think of deranged protagonists, so this can be right up my alley but it's soon to speak. We're only on episode 7 or 8 in the first season so yeah, quite a far way to go. As of now, I think it's great! She also bought me the box set for Tokyo Ghoul so I've been reading it whenever I'm alone and in the mood to read something. I'm currently on volume 3 and man, it takes me back to when I started watching anime since TG was one of my first ones and the first season wasn't horrendous, so many parts of the manga I can recall from memory from all those years back. How about you? Found anything interesting? It can be anything, not just animanga related. Anime-wise I've only been "catching up" so to say on seasonal shows.

I don't think you're elitist, you're quite open-minded to what shows you consume, and I dont really get this gate-keeper mindset from you either so yeah, wouldnt really call you an elitist, just a person that likes to find nische things. I have to be in the right mindset to enjoy shows where philosophy is the selling point like Texhnolyze, Evangelion, Lain and such. I can see a world where I could watch Texhnolyze and despise it. I think I watched it at the right time in my life with my mindset and age. I would not have the same outcome watching it now compared to when I did years ago. When it comes to philosophy-central shows it's fickle, that's why I'm shocked that Evangelion has garnered such popularity, albeit I'd estimate that over 90% of it is from the opening alone. xD

I'm ashamed to tell you I havent had time to finish Umineko as of yet, I'm still on chapter 7... D': I've played like 15 minutes here and there, but when I play these games I want to dedicate like half a day doing so, and I have not been able to do that for a long time now which suuuucks. There's so many games I want to play, I wish I had the time to do so. Not just visual novels but like the Dark Souls franchise, Nier, Metaphor, more SMT/Persona franchise, MGS and so much more. Jesus man, someday!

Sorry to have been absent, hope you had a good time while I was gone! Until next time, stay healthy and happy! Peace! :D
Ashhk May 4, 3:16 AM
Hello! :D

Yes it's obviously a good way to tell if a new game is coming from a specific franchise, I remember they used to do it with Pokemon too especially back then and I was so hyped when a new domain was registered, a few of them never became a game though because they register names just in case, I remember about Pokemon Z being registered a decade ago and now it's finally coming xD

I think the DC comics quality is also why "famous/top tier" movie directors chose to adapt Batman in their own way, but I can't imagine how confusing it must be to properly handle the story if there are multiple universes and changing elements as you said, but it makes me curious I would like to read a bit of Batman too. Almost all of my Marvel comics knowledge comes from Marvel Rivals LOL since they're always adding the original stories to read and different comics skins for each character.

I hope you'll enjoy them then!! I should also re-read some of the comics from my childhood I named earlier.

It's hard for me to know if it's the real issue or not but back then I used to binge watch anime and complete a full season in a day (yes I was addicted when I started watching anime) and despite enjoying them so much nowadays when it comes to some show my memory is very rusty and I believe it's because I didn't take time to acknowledge what I was watching and I was just starting and finishing a new show every day. On the other hand I would also think that it's mainly because I just watched so many anime so it makes sense that I don't remember well a lot of them?

Exactly!! And I checked Hanako-kun manga and you're right, I would say the manga style is more "stylish" while the anime has bold outlines and plays on the color panel so yeah both work differently but I think the anime managed to find its own style and it works. I could also name Jojo's since this is how a regular shounen anime/manga can have its own very recognizable art style.

The long format is just a hit or miss I mean when the show is great seeing that there are hundreds of episodes waiting for you is just the best feeling but when you feel like it's meh or not worth that much time it's frustrating especially for me as someone who can hardly drop any show, it reminds me of Keroro Gunsou, I watched 32 episodes and it wasn't bad at all but could I see myself watching 358 episodes of it?? probably no, so I had to drop it (even though I put it on hold). Sometimes it's just TOO much though, it's so frustrating, I've seen 60 episodes of Conan and I loved it but when I realize that there are 1000+ episodes before catching up... I just can't xD sadly I'll probably never be able to finish it and it's so sad since I love it.
And yes some shows succeeded with only 10 eps, Devilman Crybaby is another good example (even though I need to rewatch it).

For Bleach yes I enjoyed it a lot even with the fillers since most of it was still some very good arcs/fights and of course the characters were carrying the show (not to mention the sequel cours that came out recently that are top tier)

Is it the Japanese only versions that sell for a good price online or the English subtitles ones though? But yeah that's why I was surprised some of them only cost 100 yens (like 0.70 USD) lol. Ahaha well I didn't like Potemayo but this one is a little bit more well known than the other ones yes, Cinderella Boy too because it's Lupin The Third's author. I liked Hi no Tori for its originality but I was surprised how violent at the time because it was rated as an anime for children here on MAL lol so I asked one of the mod back then and they changed it (I remember the anime was even talking about rape, definitely not suited for children). And yes Yugo the Negotiator is indeed very good I'm surprised you watched it, I especially liked it because of how original the plot itself is and it doesn't even take place in Japan but in countries we almost never see in anime, they should make more like this one.

I checked Drawn to Life and yes it's possibly this one, thanks!

As for the soundfont swap it's a little technical but to summarize it, first you will need three things: download VGMTrans (https://github.com/vgmtrans/vgmtrans/releases), OpenMPT (https://openmpt.org/download) and the .rom of the game you want (for example I took Mario Kart DS), when you have all of that load the rom into VGMTrans and you'll see all the game's original music files (sometimes it's a bit tricky because the files don't have a name), when you find the track you want to edit right click on it and export it as MIDI and DLS, then you can open the MIDI file into OpenMPT (technically you can use any MIDI reader such as FL Studio I think but I prefer OpenMPT for that). When it's done you'll see all the channels used in the track you chose, if you just want to switch the sample of your choice choose one from the sample or instrument section on the left and then click on import sample and chose the one you want on your computer, then you can freely edit it on the spectrogram and cut the part you don't want in your sample (Ctrl + X after dragging your mouse on what you want to delete) and you can make it a loop in the upper settings section if you want. Then simply edit all the samples you want and when you're done save it as MP3/WAV/FLAC etc. I hope I was clear even if you're not interested as trying it yourself but now you know xD

But protein powder is basically like an energy drink, right? I thought oatmeal was just bland to be fair I probably only tasted bad ones as I rarely ate oatmeal after being disappointed lol I guess I'll have to try it again at some point, or maybe the ones in USA are different than here?

Ahah well in most cases kids just went to a job related to what their parents are doing, but it's true that if you're not interested in your parents' job it can be much more difficult to find something you like. Well it wasn't only listening to cases there were also appointments with the clients before the trial, but yeah. I never listened to a court case again but back then it was more interesting than school for me ahaha, here it's very different than the USA system, you can freely attend trials if you want but otherwise there are no photos in the media or any live stream or available videos, it's totally illegal, at best you get people drawing sketches of the defendants when the case is serious enough, so it felt special to physically attend some of them!

Well some Touhou characters got pretty popular even amongst people who didn't play the games mainly because of some songs especially IOSYS ones (with the flash animations) for example for Cirno it would be this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNeyqFfXf7k (Cirno's Perfect Math Class) and for Marisa there's Marisa Stole The Precious Thing which is extremely popular, I would be surprised if you never heard it before to be honest https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pDM6fQUfJs or even Reisen's one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1HAsA0_tBQ this is also why the Touhou community is so great ahaha.

Sure!! I would love to find a meteorite piece too ahaha but your father probably just got very lucky I guess? This is why I don't want to always stay in the same place like most tourists do since a lot of them only go to NY or LA and stay in the city until they leave the country, but visiting most of the interesting places/cities is nearly impossible unless you stay for like 6 months xD

Thanks, and I totally get those people but I just wish they’d at least tell me it was too long for them to reply or send a message that’s way shorter than mine. It’s kinda sad when someone cuts off all contact just because they were too tired to reply at some point :(
Thank you it was awesome I got to spend it with my family and now in May we've got a LOT of holidays so people are enjoying several 4-day weekends ahah, have a great (next) week as well!!
MarusaruMaia Apr 24, 7:16 PM
Yep, it's the logo for the project. I'm glad you liked it and the 3rd one is my fave too :B I want to do something very simple and clean, nothing too flashy >:y The 1st one is kind of inspired by the original logo from the Dragon Ball manga

And the idea for the 2nd and 3rd logos came from the Sega Saturn game, Guardian Heroes lol

And yup, I want to use it in a oneshot that I'm trying to finish for another contest (from the same publisher as before). The problem is that they gave it a very short deadline, May 21st!! These guys are nuts! ARGH! At the beginning of last month I ended up hurting my back while helping my mother with some housework and I had to rest for a long time, now I'm racing against the universe to be able to deliver this on time... I'm really unlucky >:'U
MarusaruMaia Apr 23, 6:02 PM
Sup gurl! Just stopping by to let you know that I'm kinda busy again with some stuff. And again, I'll reply to your previous messages soon, sorry about that! <:U Anyway, I hope you're doing well! :B
Ashhk Apr 19, 9:00 AM
Hey!!

Yes!! Apparently Atlus registered a website domain for the Persona 4 remake, which is why people are pretty confident it's actually happening. Honestly, it makes sense considering how well the Persona 3 remake did. I think the reason why Persona 1&2 remakes are taking more time is because they’d need to adapt the gameplay to fit the modern direction the series has taken, they probably can’t just make a basic dungeon crawler remake and expect it to work today. (I guess)
But yeah, seeing them in 3D would probably hit the same way Persona 3 did for me, I played Persona 3 Portable first which is obviously very limited so when Reload came out it felt absolutely insane in comparison ahah.

This is just more proof of how much times have changed.... Back then media would censor things like blood but somehow racism or misogyny wasn’t seen as a problem. It’s kind of wild when you think about it.
And yeah, Mantis is a pretty recent character compared to most of the other major Marvel characters. In the original Guardians of the Galaxy comics the team was completely different, I think we got a quick cameo of that version in one of the movies. (I don't exactly remember the plot but they had to de-freeze them I think?)

Exactly ahah, over here in Europe those kinds of comics are basically standard, most kids (at least in France) read at least one of them growing up.
Are American comics popular among kids too? Or is it more something adults get into later on? Because most Marvel stuff doesn’t really feel child-friendly in tone so I’m wondering what kids in the US usually read, is it stuff like Scrooge McDuck? That one’s super popular here too (under a totally different name though (Picsou)).
And yeah, with The Legendaries it really shows how much the art style has evolved over the years and how deeply influenced modern works are by Japanese and American media.
Did you end up reading those early 2000s comics you saw as a kid? Or did you kind of forget about them but still remember how badly you wanted to read them back then? xD

Once again, I find it really hard to choose between seasonal watching and bingeing. It’s funny because when I watch shows weekly I always end up thinking I should’ve just waited and binged them once they were done, but when I binge something I start wishing I had watched it weekly to enjoy the suspense and build up XD
Honestly, both formats are great... it really just depends on the show. Some are perfect for bingeing, while others are better experienced one episode at a time.

Absolutely!! A unique art style is what makes a show stand out for me. Of course, the story is super important too but if the character designs are bland and the art style just feels like a copy of stuff I’ve seen a hundred times, I find it harder to enjoy.
On the flip side, some shows are completely carried by their art style, and I love that. Like with Hanako-kun for example even if I don’t think the story is anything groundbreaking I still love the series and find it super memorable mostly because of its unique and recognizable visuals.
No Game No Life is another perfect example indeed! its style is the main reason I enjoyed it so much back then, I wish they made more shows like that nowadays.

To be honest, the more manga you read the more you realize how most stories can either be easily dragged out or still manage to stay interesting over a long run. We're just too used to 1 or 2 cour anime nowadays... Back then like pre-2000, 90% of anime were way longer, then it shifted to 25–50 episode ranges and now 12 is the standard. I wonder if it’ll drop even further maybe 10 episode shows will become the new norm?

Well, I did watch Bleach with all the fillers included lol so I can probably imagine what watching all of Naruto would feel like xD

Yes ahaha especially nowadays... Key adaptations used to do that kind of thing in almost all their stories before 2010.

Absolutely, obscure anime have become like a passion within a passion at this point. I'd honestly love to collect DVDs of all those obscure ones I’ve watched, it’s so frustrating though.... I found like 70% of them (for very cheap) in Japan but I couldn’t bring them back with me because of how much space they took… Right now I’m watching this one: Submarine Super 99 (https://myanimelist.net/anime/1713/Submarine_Super_99)
Which ones did you recognize from the list by the way?

I’m not totally sure if I actually played Scribblenauts on the DS I have memories of a similar game where you could draw your own character and weapons and they’d come to life. Not sure if that was Scribblenauts or something else.
But yeah, DS soundfonts are honestly the best also the files are super easy to edit, you can extract the samples and even see all the tracks with each instrument used for each song. I used to swap out the entire Mario Kart DS soundtrack with Mario Party DS samples back in the day lol.

Cereal with protein powder?? Does it actually taste good? I don’t think I’ve ever tried protein powder in my life... And parmesan in oatmeal? I’m surprised it works but I guess you’ve found something surprisingly tasty ahahaha.

For some people the internship experience was pretty bad especially since you're forced to find one and sometimes end up doing something you hate for a whole week. I got lucky though I did mine at a law firm because my dad was a lawyer too. I was literally sitting in court listening to cases instead of being in class ahaha.
Wait, did they push you into the fountain as a joke or was it actually mean? Because it doesn’t sound like a great memory but I guess it depends on the context?

Ahaha it’s funny because a lot of people actually ask me where my pfp comes from and almost all of them think it’s from an anime at first! That always surprises me since I thought Touhou was pretty well-known in the anime/manga/gaming community, even among those who’ve never actually played it... Especially considering how popular the soundtrack is, kinda like how Undertale is probably more famous for its OST than the game itself xD

It’s great that you liked playing Touhou!! Which game(s) did you try? Also, I know about Koishi Komeiji’s Heart-Throbbing Adventure but I never watched the whole thing. I’m a bit hesitant when it comes to Touhou fan animations or voice dramas mostly because some of them turned into memes due to how bad they were like "Cookie☆" ahahaha

As for traveling, yeah! I've been trying to visit more popular and culturally significant places lately. I used to focus on more “niche” locations before (especially smaller countries in Europe) but now I feel like I should branch out to countries with strong cultural identities (which is also why I went to Japan last year). I didn’t know about Culver’s before, so thanks for the recommendation!

It’ll be hard to visit most cities since I’ll only be staying for about 2 weeks and cities like New York are sooooo expensive so I probably won’t stay long. I’ll be based in Las Vegas instead since it’s way cheaper than LA or NYC from what I’ve seen. But from there, there are a lot of places to visit nearby, I’m planning to go see the Canyons for example

Someone from Wisconsin told me that a lot of brands in the US change depending on your location which surprised me here, brands are mostly national so no matter where you are you’ll see the same 90% of them even though culture and landscapes vary a lot from region to region here too. But thanks for the info! I’ll try to adapt once I’m there I just don’t want to miss out on any must-see places ahah.

And that's perfect then! I’m just always a bit nervous sending long messages like this because in the past a lot of people just never replied when I wrote something lengthy. I assume it’s because it takes more time and energy to read and respond properly :( So I prefer to ask just in case rather than risk no reply at all. Anyway, have a great (end of the) week too! And Happy Easter! 🥚🐰

SO sorry for the late reply! Life’s been a whirlwind, but I’ve been meaning to respond to this amazing message forever! 😭 Your kindness about the government job chaos is seriously keeping me sane <3 It's an uphill battle, but your encouragement means the world. I'm slowly, but progressively, getting into the groove of things, so a lot of the fear I had during my initial weeks has subsided. And YES, Tally Hall fans are a relentless (and talented) bunch. I shouldn’t be surprised someone made an HQ edit, but it still feels like uncovering buried treasure xD

That Luigi/Ness Melee player sounds legendary!! The way certain fighters can turn "joke" characters into absolute menaces is one of my favorite parts of the scene. It’s like watching someone bend the game’s rules into art. If you ever stumble across those old videos, please send them my way - I’d love to see that chaos in action! And Mang0 vs. Hungrybox remains peak rivalry material. The fact that Melee’s janky mechanics fuel that diversity instead of hindering it? Chef’s kiss.

Origami King’s paper gimmick still bums me out too… Like, the originals had soul - partners with personalities, worlds that felt alive! Now we’re stuck fighting office supplies. 😭 I still back the idea that indie games are carrying the RPG torch now, but I’ll never stop hoping Nintendo remembers what made Paper Mario magical.

Dreaming Machine as a concept lives rent-free in my head. Even if unintentional, letting the audience’s imagination be the final animator sounds like such a Kon thing to do LOL! And YES, the Nana manga is next on my list!! The anime’s writing felt so raw and human, which makes the hiatus even more bittersweet. But you’re right, Ai Yazawa’s health matters most, and what exists is already a masterpiece. Also, your kindness about my rambling has me grinning like an idiot - thank you for being such a cool person to chat with! It's always a blast to hear from you and I don't deserve such kind words <333

I'm always glad to hype up somebody following their passions!!! I truly wish you nothing but the best in everything that you do <3

Hey!!

That's for sure, their next game is probably going to be Persona 6 hopefully! I can't wait for more announcements.

Though Marvel comics can also feel outdated thematically since many of them are from decades ago. I know they've removed or reworked some things that could be considered offensive. For example I remember James Gunn completely changed Mantis' character and personality, even though Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the more recent comics. In the original comics, Mantis was described as a stereotypical "Vietnamese prostitute" so they obviously had to make major changes for the movies.

I read a lot of comics that were written in my language, especially when I was younger. Many of them are really good and became quite popular outside of France and Belgium like Tintin for example (especially thanks to Spielberg). I’ve read and own all the comics, I love that series. I also really like The Smurfs, Asterix, Lucky Luke, Blake and Mortimer, and some funny ones like Gaston and Titeuf. One of the first fantasy works I read was this comic series: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Legendaries I used to love it though I haven’t reread it in years so I’m not sure if I’d still feel the same now. I know some of these are fully available in English since they’re famous worldwide especially The Smurfs, Asterix, and Tintin.

I honestly can’t even answer your question because I used to watch most of the seasonals that way so I’ve seen nearly every type of theme and genre through the one episode per week format ahaha. If I try to make a rough estimate of how many anime I’ve watched like this since I started it would probably be between 500 and 800.

No idea if you’d like Blend S or No Game No Life but when it comes to Overlord I think its charm comes especially from its color grading it’s one of the only anime I can think of that feels unique mainly because of that (at least in my opinion). I think it’s the mix of its fantasy world, amazing character design and bright colors but I don’t know it just feels really special to me. Also it’s satisfying to watch a character who’s extremely OP in a video game world like that.

For me the biggest issue with popular anime is that I haven’t watched many of them simply because of their length. For example I’d love to watch Naruto but I just can’t bring myself to watch 720 episodes of the same show nowadays... Even without the fillers it’s still way too long. Same for other similar series. With how slowly I watch shows nowadays, anything over 100 episodes would take me months to get through even if I focus only on that one show.

As for I Want to Eat Your Pancreas I think it also lacked originality for me. Your Name and A Silent Voice are comparable but they bring something more, for example A Silent Voice has the deaf main character and the complex relationship due to the bullying and Your Name has the body-switching aspect. Whereas in I Want to Eat Your Pancreas it’s just about falling in love with a sick girl, I’m sure there are already tons of live-action films with similar themes.

The issue is that sometimes no matter how bad an anime is it’s just boring, not even funny. I think “so bad it’s good” animes only work when they try to be original or take risks with the plot but fail miserably. That reminds me of one of my anime traditions: once a month with a friend I watch an anime that has under 10k members on MAL, It’s fun to collect random obscure anime like that but yeah most of them are obviously terrible ahaha. I'll link the names of all of what we've seen since the beginning (since 2019 or 2020 I think):

Wow okay I get it for FLCL Alternate at least the "alternate" in the title is accurate but what even is this? I mean what's the point if it barely has anything to do with FLCL at all? I guess they got the rights to use the FLCL name so they had to throw in some similar elements but if the rest of the show is totally different it's probably just a way to make money with a slice of life series that wouldn't do well with the audience if it didn’t have FLCL in the title...

Ahah thanks! The goal was just to re-create the song without adding any "YTP" elements, since the original source is basically just some fake sample and robotic voices so it makes sense to keep it like that. I think it’s easier to make it sound smooth when it’s a fake sample so I didn’t really have to process the audio much I just added a few effects. Actually the bass is the same one used by Nintendo in Mario Party DS lol.

Absolutely, and in my case I’m just bad at cooking and don’t really enjoy it xD so I wish I had access to more prepared meals ahaha.

Well I should mention the pay is obviously low since it’s just small tasks but it’s mainly interesting for the experience. It’s like the kind of internship you have to do in middle school, no idea if it’s the same in the States but here we have to do a one-week internship during 9th grade and recently they added one for 10th grade too.

Ahah it’s perfect then, here it’s not hot but it’s sunny basically around 50°F with a bright blue sky so I’m not complaining. Also I’m visiting the USA this summer for the first time, I’ll mostly stay in tourist cities like NY and LA but do you have any underrated places to visit or recommendations in general? I’m also curious about which stores or restaurant chains I should try!

Also sorry I feel like I'm writing too much I hope it's not too long and annoying to reply due to the length.

I definitely want to get around to the Zaregoto anime adaptation eventually, and actually, I want to watch every Shaft anime ever made at some point. I was on a massive binge but unfortunately, stopped at Maria Holic because I thought it was terrible. I was planning to watch the Zaregoto OVAs after I finished the novels but unfortunately, the quality of the translations after volume 3 fall off a cliff IMO since they aren't official, and it was hard for me to continue forward.

It's kind of funny, because there was a phase when I was in my later teens where I was a complete elitist and just discounted any shonen, but I've come around to them again. A lot of shonen are just a super enjoyable time, are easy to get invested in, and have a lot of heart. I want to give One Piece another chance in particular, because it's something I used to be really dismissive of. I focused more on the "plot holes" and "conveniences" more than meeting it where it was at and engaging with it on a thematic level, and retrospectively, I feel that's an incredible flawed way of looking at art.

Oh yes the Eva manga is great, it does have some differences yeah. It's been a while since I read it so I'm sure I don't remember everything, but I do remember that it roughly follows to plot of the original anime and then follows the EoE ending, with a good few more notable changes during that part. I really enjoy it, not only for the different content but because I love the art style too. I definitely recommend it if you're and Eva fan, I should probably re-read sometime as well for that matter since I remember so little.

I see what you mean now about Big O, yeah when it's framed that way I do feel a bit more positively about the mecha fights in that show. It's definitely a series I should rewatch at some point, because I feel like it has so much good going for it, and there's a chance I could like it more the second time around as well.
I agree that Sonny Boy felt very deliberately symbolistic, that's one of things like about it for sure. I really loved the ending, and a good few of the characters too.
Hope you enjoy Alternative as well, I've heard great things about it so I'm excited to see how much I like it.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
