    SIEGE : Wargame show

Hi! This week end, I participated to a local wargame show and ran a huge game of Siege (and Cry Havoc) with my gaming partner Alex, thank to him! We played the 6th scenario from Siege box named 'Retreat', this scenario is split in 2 parts.

The first part of the game simulate the retreat of troops and peasants from local baron during a raid from a rival duke. The aim is to let enter in the castle the maximum of food supplies and troops in order to stand as long as possible during up coming Siege.

Between both scenario parts, gaming  maps are re organized. The village is the center of the first part and the Castel will be the center of the last parts.

    First part : Retreat!
Alex my opponent fine tune his battle plan
    .
Local baron troops reach the village with mules and sheep, peasants are in their houses and start the retreat to the castel.

Rivals Knights and Squires charge !

Peasant pull his chariot with supplies as fast as possible!

Squires and peasants from local Baron cover courageously the retreat of their fellows

All the food supplies reached the castle! The siege will beguin soon.

    Second Part : Castle Siege
Besieging army set up a camp in front of the castle

After 40 days of siege, they built trebuchets, catapults, ladders, Mantelets, siege tower and filled the moat in two locations

North East wall was pounded and ruined. Half of the besieged troops are mobilized to protect this breach.

Siege tower start is relentless advancing to the walls.

6 groups of besiegers put in place ladders and started to climb to the top of the walls. The castle is besieged by all directions.

Crossbowmen protected by their mantelets harass the troops which protect the breach

Rival Knights finish their day in front of the breach. The sun goes down and the siege come to an end. Besiegers lost too much troop during this assault and decide to stop definitely the siege.

    SIEGE : Terrains and miniatures

Hi! I painted the full set of this box few days ago, just on time to show it at a local wargame event. Great satisfaction to play with it. One more time, these rules are quite easy to learn and reflect many Middle Age Siege warfare aspects. Scenarios are built to progressively introduce all these new rules : Ladders, fill the moat, battering ram, siege tower, hot liquid barrels, fire, trebuchet, catapult, etc... Siege preparation phase is also an interesting gaming moment : Castle walls pending, war machine building and management of injured troops.

Most of the minitaures supply come from Joan of Arc Siege box, except  tents which come from Scalecreep range, battering ram and war machines crew from Oldglory range and catapults from 3DBreed miniature range.

    SIEGE

Hey gents! Second chapter of Cry Havoc serie, Siege! New rules to manage Castle wall, towers, keep and also to use war engines like Bolt Thrower, Mangonel, Trebuchet, Battle Ram, etc... Supplied with 7 scenarios. Regard 3D version, I used pieces from Joan of Arc Siege supplement. Size fit perfectly, I adapted/adjusted these elements in order to design a new castel set up on hexes grid. I added tower hoardings,  created a massive gate and a round keep.  Most of the job was done by copying parts in greenstuff and bluestuff. I stiff have to damage the walls for a better realistic result. the camp map is quite easy to carry out, just different levels to manage. See you for the next step, painting!

Finally found the 3rd box with peasant models, collection complete.
    Houra!!

    CRY HAVOC : Terrain

Hey guys! Cry Havoc basics scenarios are ran on 2 different hexes maps which can be used together or stand alone. These maps are 'The village' and 'The crossroads', each map bring its own specificity to the game and can be joined to each other by any side.Yellow ground color of the maps is quite specific to this game and its range. The point for me was to transfer this 2D game into a  3D playable version.

The Village and the Crossroad maps Regarding the ground, instead to apply standard modelling ways for wargame table (sand with PVA glue), I used a rubber mat from Deep Cut Studio (Link) with hexagonal 1 inch grid, 50% of transparent. It save me a lot of time and the overall outcome is quite satisfying for me. The rubber mat is glued on 9mm thick Depron (extruded polystyrene) sheet. It self glued on 2mm cardboard sheet. Elevations as The Hill and The Village are as well set up on 9mm Depron sheet.

    Buildings :
Village buildings are integrated in the game and can be visited by the models, so the roofs are removable and hexes are also represented in each building. The resin building models were sold by the same brand then the 15mm miniatures, not as a whole set but sold individually. They are supposed be the representation of XIIIth century EU village building. I painted them as much as possible close of two picture I found on the web. No frech yellow tatched roof, I prefer an old brown grey ich one with a touch of moss on top of it. The five buildings are set up on a central piece which one lock both Depron trays of the Village map.
