When beginning ROM of the wrist – especially with distal radius fractures – it is beneficial to have the patient perform tenodesis, not wrist flexion and extension with the fingers extended. If the patient doesn't retrain tenodesis movement patterns early in the rehab process, I find they have difficulty with proprioception of the wrist and regaining grip strength.
