Fast NVMe SSD Storage

Storage is where most Drupal hosts quietly cut corners, parking everyone on cheap network volumes shared across hundreds of tenants. We build the opposite way, and you feel it on every page load.

Local NVMe SSD, by default

Every plan runs on local NVMe SSDs out of the box, up to ten times faster than the network storage most hosts hand you. Your Drupal codebases and Percona MySQL databases live on that fast local storage, which is precisely where the latency-sensitive work belongs.

Network-attached NVMe for the bulky stuff

Large file archives and backups don't need that same low latency, so we keep them on network-attached NVMe SSD storage instead. You get plenty of capacity at a sensible price, without paying local-NVMe rates for data that mostly just sits there. And every backup archive is self-contained, the database inside next to the files, so any archive restores on any server, not only the one that wrote it.

Room to grow

Phantom, Ultra and Monster instances now take our new storage extensions. Add up to eight 16 TB volumes, for 128 TB in total, and your hosting grows with the sites on it rather than boxing them in.

Fast local storage where it counts, cheap network storage where it doesn't: that split is why our stack stays quick as your data piles up.

Important Details

Add storage to any Phantom, Ultra or Monster plan in increments of 50 GB, 100 GB or 1 TB, so you buy what you actually need instead of rounding up to some vendor's tier. Whether you're attaching a fresh device or resizing an existing one, each resize request is €99.

Adding versus resizing

Attaching a new storage device is quick and happens live, with no server reboot and no downtime. Resizing a device already in use is a different matter: that one needs a server reboot and roughly 15 minutes of downtime to complete cleanly.

Before you resize

One thing to plan for is that upsizing is permanent. Once a device grows, it can't shrink back down. If you later need less, you buy a smaller device and our support team migrates your data across for you.

Each Cloud Server takes up to eight Block Storage devices at 16 TB apiece, which works out to 128 TB per server. That extra storage maps to any directory you like, and usually gets symlinked into the files directories of your hosted Drupal sites. Your PHP codebases and SQL databases stay put on the fast Local NVMe SSD Storage, where the performance actually matters.

Ægir automates the symlinking of site files, and our support team handles any custom layout at no extra cost with any storage purchase. The 16 TB per-device limit caps the files directories for each Ægir Octopus instance at the shared mount point ~/static/files/. If you need more than that, spread the storage across separate Ægir Octopus instances, up to eight per server.

If you'd rather not run multiple instances past 16 TB, we offer custom configurations. Our team mounts extra storage devices inside subdirectories of that same ~/static/files/ tree, keeping things separated by path keyword, whether per platform or per site.

What you actually get

Storage grows in real increments, and you can scale out to eight Block Storage devices per server while the latency-sensitive work stays on fast Local NVMe SSD Storage. Symlinking is automated by Ægir; migrations and custom layouts are handled by our support team.

Pricing and availability

Each resize request is €99. Attaching a new device is fast and adds no downtime, so growing a Phantom, Ultra or Monster instance stays a low-risk decision. The capacity and reliability are already there when your Drupal sites need them.
