Tiger 1 .... Contiuned

Today was another bad day for me, not only have I put my back out this week. This morning my Uncle passed away, so a pretty bad week all round. No way was I getting any work done with a mind that distracted, pain on both levels (the back and the brain) So I decided to put theTiger back together and play around with that.

Life is too short not to have fun when you can.

With the right tools and a little knowledge the second side of wheels went on quickly. Then it was full steam around the house, much to the cat's discust. Putting the wheels back on was far more difficult than I had expected. My first attempt I got some of the suspension on backwards, so had to start over. After getting one side back on, I then stripped the small hex screw driver I was using (cheap arse knock off) so ended up having to go buy something a little more sturdy.

Ive still got a lot more work to do on it, but she's looking the part now, a million miles better than the out of the box gey.

Also tried the updated iPad version of Blogsy to publish this post. The image placing still sucks, which doesnt suprise me at all this week.

 

Tiger 1 : Part IV

Ok this is part ... Who the hell cares ... Of my RC Tiger paint job. LOL...

After a gloss varnish, Ive put the decals on and my first load of brown wash from A.K. Products. This is only the second model ive used the A.K. Products on,  so Im still getting use to them. (dont think ill ever get use to the smell of them). Just waiting from them to dry before I clean up the over done bits with turps. I must say being able to go back and easliy clean up mistakes is awesome, down side is the smell of oil based paints and turps. 

Now I'm really looking foward to getting into some of the rust and grime A.K. Products and making this  beasty look like a well abused tank.

Tiger 1 : Part III

Managed to get some time tonight to attack the Tiger with some colour for the camo. Ive made a few botch ups, which I'll correct, but so far I'm pleased with the outcome.

Herer's the first stage with just the brown added.

Then adding in the green. These ipad phots are a hit and miss with the colour, but they give the general idea.

Its a bit bright at the moment, which will tone down once I get a few washs and the weathering done.

Tiger 1 : Part II

So I put the Tiger tank back togeather after a second base coat, then added in some panel edge highlighting. Already its looks far better than the out of the box grey. 

Now the real fun starts with the camo pattern, still not sure which one ill go for.

Tiger 1

Last weekend at the Camberidge Armistice show we saw a bunch of remote contol tanks which really peaked my interest. Ive always loved remote control things, but having seen and heard some real disasters that can happen with remote control planes I thought a tank would be more my style (less likely to destroy it in minutes) . Add to that you can now get IR battle systems for them. Thats an infrared system that stalls or shutdowns the other tanks when you get a hit. So with a couple of tanks you can actuall have full on battles.

So with all the metal minis sitting on my table wanting paint applied, I  decided not to add to the pile, but rather start another differnet kind of pile, yep, i went and got myself an RC tank. Now of course like most things you can spend a small amount or a god damn fortune on these things as i found out.

I opted for the cheaper end of things to start with, going with a local shop that had some in stock. So I could  go in and see what I was getting. Now of couse my luck meant they didnt have any of the Russian tanks I wanted. So I went for the German Tiger 1 by Henglong. Thought it would be fun to paint up and at $170 wasnt to crazy to get me started. It doesnt have the IR system, but does have an upgrade option availablel ... (Christmas present hint) 

Now after scarying the fur of the cat and playing around with the Tiger out of the box for a day or two, I dismantled it for painting. So far ive done the primer and the first base coat. At 1/16th scale its rather large compaired to what Im use to painting. .... Gotta love my air brush. Lots more work to go.
