Bite Size HTX

Saw Bite Size HTX and decided to stop by.
They were at the Rice Village Farmers Market.

Even though they're the only ones that does Bahn Ni Charcuterie board, they were serving up Onigri on the spot.

But first! We need Coffee!  Luckily, they were serving Vietnamese Coffee, which as we all know - when fully leaded, it is pretty potent.

They were wrapped in a very pretty package.  And they do it like the traditional Japanese places that has the seaweed (nori) separate from the rice.  But the packaging has a little pull tab that by the time you pull, the nori paper will wrap the rice nice and tight.

So I got both the Spicy Tuna (L) and the Kimchi Fried Rice one.  They also give you a sauce for the spicy tuna, which does kick it up a notch.  The Kimchi Fried Rice, I can just do it by itself.  I would've love that too.

Besides Rice Village Farmers Market, you can also find them at Autry Park Farmers Market and everywhere around town.  Please support local vendors!

Foreign Policy

Was eyeing Foreign Policy for a while.  Finally got a chance.

Got a gyro plate and some fries.  When they asked if I wanted cheese on top, of course I'd say yes.  Didn't realized it's feta cheese, but good nonetheless.  The sandwich is huge for what they give you, and yes messy.  The fries with feta cheese is a first for me, but it was tasty.   Never had that combo before.

So depends on where they park the truck, there's certain rules the truck is expected to abide, like if they park at NRG, they are expected to sell drinks provided by Aramark, and charge that price.  So, you best bring your own.  They serve Greek, Korean, Mexican and American, so there's something for everyone.

Flavas Food truck

This is my first time meeting Taste My Flavivas.
They are a juice and toast truck.  They have avocado toast, quesadillas, and paninis.  Otherwise, it's mostly juice.

I got the watermelon-peach-rose juice.  I will say that I did not taste any peach, some rose.  It is all freshly squeeze.  Not like aqua fresca, but also not too fragrant especially on the rose part.  The watermelon was good, not too sweet and not too sour, which I expected the peach to contribute.

As usual, please support small businesses if you can.

Food Box food truck

So our office building lost the food provider inside the building, and they've invited various food truck to come by.
This one looked interesting and worth wasting some calories on it.

That's menu du jour....

What did I get?  I got brisket loaded fries minus the sour cream.  I should've seen the world jalapeño and ask them to skip it.  But you saw the generous amount they put on there.  To me, this is similar if not basically a loaded potato, with less confine of a potato.  Fries are lovely with a lot of meat and bbq sauce to go with it.  The veggies are just being there as garnish but works well together.  Needless to say, I picked off the jalapeño.  Overall not a bad dish right out of the truck, and yes, I skipped dinner that night.  That was a lot of food.

The proprietor was friendly and nice.  I know they were closed for a long stretch due to covid impact, but they are slowly but surely coming back.  Please support a mom and pop shop if you can.

Tanuki Go

Excited to Tanuki Go at the Otaku Fest.
Since they make flavors tailored to the audience at an Asian fest they'll have my favorite, red bean.  I'll say this one the batter seems to be crispier than the last time I had theirs.  It's pretty good, and definitely my go-to comfort food.

In Japan, they have fruit with cream cheese or Nutella.  Here they had red bean, chocolate (which was more of a pudding consistency.  Of course their lines were one of the first ones that filled up. So I was super glad that I got there first.  If you see them, make sure to go to their line first, you won't regret it.

Cousins Food truck

Have been a long time since I caught a lobster roll food truck.
And we came back to Cousins.

Got the Connecticut Style Lobster Roll.  I usually like my rolls warm and no mayo.  The meat is definitely generous.  So that's $20 well spent.

Also got the Tails & Tots.  It is literally a full tail and tator tots.  It's on a stick, but not easy to peel off.  So, not sure how to eat that elegantly without being a mess, but it's definitely something you should eat right away.  Once it cools, it doesn't taste as rich for me.

Tanuki Go

It's not easy to catch Tanuki at different markets, so when I can, I make more of an effort.
$5 all they sell are Takoyaki and Taiyaki.  One is savory, one is sweet.

They can make them as fast as the waffle iron allows.  Batter stations were all set to go.

What they are, Takoyaki is grilled octopus with waffle-like batter.  The key is the mayo + takoyaki sauce (like Worcheshire but smoother texture) plus the flakes which makes it yummy.  They have nori flakes, bonito flakes, little bit of chives on top.

For Taiyaki - that's more of a dessert.  We often refer to it as waffles with fillings.  Sadly they were only offering Chocolate, Bavarian Cream and Lemon.  I was hoping they have the traditional adzuki beans which is sweet and textured.  But beggars can't be choosers.

Follow Tanuki Go on social media, they are often at different festivals and markets.

Tasty Arepa

Another festival food truck experience.
I don't think I've specifically had Columbian food before.  Also have never had Columbiana before either.  I kept asking the lady what flavor is it, and all she kept saying was cola champagne.  When I got home to Google it, it's true... the flavor is cola champagne.  The best way to describe it is that it is a very tamed Pepsi with some fruity taste.

I know I could try their arepa, or empanadas, churizo... etc.  Since I was super hungry, and everything on the menu needed to be fried, so I decide to go for hot dog.  It's a pretty big dog.

For the price, having a big dog is not bad.  Dog tasted good.  I wouldn't mind trying the other items when I have time.  Been eyeing the empanadas quite a bit, and lots of Hispanics flock to the truck asking for Arepas, so I'm curious about that too.

The Lunch Bag food truck

Now that weather is nicer, I love how there's more food trucks coming back.
I will admit, I came to The Lunch Bag because the line was the shortest, but it was a delightful surprise.

They have burgers, quesadillas, but also catfish, jerk chicken.

I got the Jerk Chicken Tacos that comes with plantain.  They were all nice and warm and fresh.  The jerk chicken has a kick to it.  And the plantain as freshly fried, but not too fried.  So it was a nice complement to the chicken.

They do breakfast & lunch (obviously dinner) catering, even though the name is Lunch Bag.  Please support local small businesses.

The Soda Shoppe

Another treat at a festival.
I've seen Mary Had A Little Party before, but never seen one in person.

Lemony Cricket - Lemonade with raspberry.  Super refreshing on a hot humid day.

They also have milkshake too.  Definitely is a nice late summer treat

Arts & Crepes

Tis the festival season.  We saw this crepe cart and got curious.
I've never seen them before, but since I'm a fan of crepes, I'm always game.

This is melted Brie & Pear with walnut and honey and some marmalade on the side.  It comes with a salad and chips.  Chips might not be what I would've chosen as a 'side', but the dressing that comes with the salad was really good.  Wouldn't have minded if they sell the salad by itself.  Don't get me wrong, they do have that on their menu, but I didn't know until I got my crepe.

So the crepe itself: the brie was strong and the pear went well.  But maybe it's was a tad overwhelming even with the honey and marmalade.  If you were to order this, it is best shared with another person.  It is, as I said, strong.

OhMyGogi

Another popular food truck is Oh My Gogi.
Haven't had their yummy-ness for a few years.  Since they went outside of the loop to expand, I was just too lazy to chase after them.

But now that they're back setting up, it's an easy thing to show up.

They now have the stall in H-Mart in Asian Town (Katy) and 4 trucks that are working 3 suburbs and this one at the Rice Village.

My favorite: OMG! Fries.

When you get it, you really go: OMG!  They have cheese, spicy mayo, cilantro, onions, with bulgogi beef over a bed of fries.

Every bite is yummy goodness.  This is another one of the no-so-pretty food.  It does get messy, and it does take up a lot of napkins.  But, worth every bite.  I think towards the end, we were fighting the last fork-full of meat.  It's that good!  Highly recommend.

They are at a parking lot, conveniently right next to Yoyo's, so you can do a one-two punch. They are open Tuesday thru Sunday starting at 8pm.  They prefer cashless.

YoYo's Hot Dogs

On Instagram, people were going crazy for this hot dog, naturally I got curious.
It's not exactly a truck.  There is a guy who has a truck-ish and has a set up.

They technically don't start until 8p but by 7:45p it was about 20+ deep and line started to form.

As you can see, they were still cooking and getting things ready...

They only sell one kind of hot dog, if you want to customize, this is not the place nor do they have time to do it given the line they've got.

This is YoYo's New York Street Style Hot Dog, that has: cream cheese, spicy mustard, curry ketchup, grilled onions, crunchy fried onions, honey mayo and sriracha.

So obviously, the mayo sriracha combo is on top.  This is not pretty eating this.  It takes much skills to not make a mess.  But whatever the voodoo that they do, is great.  You have grilled onions underneath, but the crunchy onions on top helps give it texture.  Hot Dog is Nathan's hot dog.  This whole thing for $4.50.  Add a bottle of water/soda for $1 more and is $5.50 for a quick meal.

This is definitely a college dinner/snack for the evening before loading up for more alcohol.  This is a good stop too.  They set up stall at the parking lot and every time we turn around, the line gets longer.  And even after we paid the line was still going strong.  Not only that one of the kids were telling us that if it's a game night at the stadium nearby, forgetaboutit.  The line would wrap around the building and then more.  That's the power of this dog!

They do have an iPad to take your credit card, but if you have exact change, that would help move the line much faster and everyone appreciates that.  They are only open Thursday thru Saturday after 8pm, we got there 15 till and the line was about 20 deep, so you do the math.

Bovine & Barley

As a celebration of end 1st day of school, yes you read that right.  My neighbor organized for the Adult Ice Cream truck to make an appearance, and I'm grateful for that.
So, how that works.  You call them, and arrange to get on their calendar.  They usually ask that you have 9-10 orders to make it worthwhile.  In addition, they do ask you to buy food.  So, for food, they do offer Chips & Salsa or House Chips.  I really do like their House Chips, so I ordered 3.  You have to text them the order ahead and they are pretty efficient on keeping track on orders too.

This time, I also ordered the Cuba Libre (fancy Rum & Coke with lime).

They showed up on time, and there were more parents that needed that drink that I had anticipated.  Again, they give you a virgin drink, and an airplane size bottle of booze, and you can add as you see fit.  That works for me, because last time I didn't finish my bottle and can make it as strong or not as I want.

Kona Ice

For hot days, the sight of shaved ice is a welcome sight.
Ordered the Tiger Blood, it is actually watermelon, strawberry and coconut. You can  tell there's coconut in there, but it's not too strong that it's a turn-off.

If you call the Kona Ice truck to your street, they will come if there's 10 orders or more.  For parties they are very reasonable and very accommodating on pricing too.  The entire crew are very easy to work with.
Definitely worth calling them over.

Bovine & Barley Truck

Also known as Adult Ice Cream Truck except, they don't have ice cream.
I will say, when we arrived at the designated time and location, there were over 20 adults hovering around.  Part social distance, and part not.  They were all waiting for the truck.  So, basically, how it operates is that you gather your neighbors, and then they post on their IG that they'll be in which area around what time and date.  You can text time to get the specific location and time.

They got updated menu for different date or different truck.  But it worked out very nicely.  They have a squishy machine, and they give you an airplane bottle for you to mix it yourself.  You can also get chips and dips too.  They offer 7 types of drinks, and you can get a single or a double, if you have more people, you can do a party pack too.

Dough Cone

While we were trying to social distance at the park, what a better treat than to get some ice cream.
We got a milkshake, perfect for the muggy day we got.  Though the price point is not cheap, it was $6.99 for a cup for a mini size.

Advantage of being a food truck is that you're already a mobile restaurant, don't have seating, walk up/take out is available all year round.  To them, the Stay Home work order might be a great boost to the business, since it's business as usual for them.  And more people are having them park at their location, to drum up business.  Follow them on Twitter and Instagram to track them down.

Oh My Gogi - pop up

Went back to Oh My Gogi in Evelyn's Park for the pop up.
I really hope they get to stay.  Their food is just as good like from when they were on the truck and best of all, there's easy parking and the lines are not horrible.
Here's my damage, don't worry, I had share this with someone else.
OMG fries, with bulgogi beef, colby jack cheese, onion, cilantro, and spicy mayo.  YUMMO!  It has carbs, protein, veggies, all rolled into one.  Last time I added an egg, and while that makes it yummy, gooey, and sticky; ultimately, it was a bit overboard for me, so I scaled it back some this round.
Pork fried dumpling with the sweet sauce, it was very meaty and warm.  Perfect for a quick lunch.

Hurry up and go see them, the OMG team will be at the yellow house in Evelyn's Park till 8/31!  Don't miss out!

Oh My Gogi Pop Up

This month, August, Oh My Gogi will be doing a pop up at Evelyn's Park
They are in the Yellow House where Ivy & James was before.
My favorite from them: OMG fries with fried egg on top.  The egg is extra, but it normally comes with Bulgogi Beef, Colby Jack cheese and their spicy mayo.  The fries is more of a vehicle, but the beef is all chopped up and the egg mix it all mushy and yummy together.
Fried pork dumplings, is there anything I need to say here?  They're good.... then again, I have not met a dumpling that I don't like.
Kimchi Quesadilla with Bulgogi beef.  It's super cheesy inside and every bite has kimchi and beef together.  Again, spicy mayo helped out.  It even impressed my mom.

I cannot tell you how happy that they're doing the pop up here.  They usually camped out at Rice Village, ever since they mandated paid parking there, it really discourages me to go there, find a parking or pay for a parking.  Long lines for wait time.  Versus, I can just park, short walk and get to order and sit down.  I know this is just one month, but I hope they get to stay.

Popfancy

For a hot day at the park, best thing to do is to get a popsicle!
Last time I went to Popfancy was inside the mall.
Even when they're mobile, they still carry 10 flavors.
I got the Chocolate Brownie.  See!  They actually have chunks of brownie in the pop.

Of course, the lovely thing about popsicle is that you get a refreshing treat in a hot day.  But the bad thing about it is that it's hot out and melts your pop super quick.  So I made a mess basically.  It's lovely either way.  It is a gourmet pop, so you're paying $3.50 for a pop, but they do come in very sophisticated flavors, which makes it worthwhile.  Give them a shot!
