And moving on....

With grandchildren poised to arrive at any moment,

The hexie shape with two triangles was added.

I thought I'd give a quick update on my latest start.

It might be a while til I get back to it....!

A black and white version to check tonal balance

It's now called "Violet Crumble" after the iconic

Australian honeycomb candy bar.

The quilt is constructed in diagonal rows, pinning

carefully at points of the triangles.

Yes, I like a challenge!

I still have the long centre rows to join...

but it's fun to see the star shapes appearing.

Hopefully, I'll be back soon with the flimsy complete!

Happy sewing!

I think it's straight...

I finished my rainbow hexie wall art recently,

and just this week got my husband to hang it up!

My husband assures me it is straight on the wall....

perhaps it's the wonkiness of the hexies that is telling

me otherwise!

It is hanging in our 'spare' bedroom,

or guest room as some people say!

Can you tell that this is where my little grandsons

sleep?

It's great to have one less project in the WIPS pile.

Happy days!

Small Gains

The day started with great promise....

But basting was the far as I got with this 'monster'!

I don't know whether it is the batting (Matilda's Own

Polyester) or the backing (a vintage sheet) that was causing

'shifting' problems?

So I spent much of the afternoon 'unsewing' various

seams, and am now back to square one!

I pin basted today, but have some glue spray and will

add that to the task tomorrow, as well as a different backing!

Thankfully I had no problems putting these nine-patch blocks

together...

I'm thinking of adding them to my Chuck Nohara blocks?

Then this one made it across the finish line...

the back....

a close-up

It's hard to go wrong with Tula Pink and hexies!

And finally three tissue cosies...

shame I got those magpies upside down!

Hopefully tomorrow is a better day....

Hitting the ground running!

With nearly a week away from the sewing machine,
A 'floating' butterfly

A wallaby having a snack....

A red sky in the morning...

the sailor's warning
I was keen to remedy it this weekend!

I made a border for my Tula Pink hexies....

14" square of fabric with 2" squares around the outside edge

ready now to applique!

a nasty night time photo!
A friend is celebrating her birthday tomorrow

and as the 'group' gift isn't ready...

I didn't want to go empty handed!

So a tote bag was made!

The inside pocket

I raided my stash for this Lecien linen from way

back...

It's called "Isso Ecco & 'heart'"...

no longer stocked, I believe?

And an outside pocket.

Who knows what is on the schedule for the third day

of our long weekend?

Happy sewing!

Goodbye 2015!

What better way to finish the year....

than with a quilt finish too!

This one was a long time in the making...

beginning with EPP hexie flowers back in 2013(?)

I toyed with the idea of joining them with more

hexies, but settled on appliquing them to low volume

backgrounds.

I also thought about machine quilting the completed

top, but again, changed my mind...

Quilted some straight lines on the machine

and then perle hand quilting around each one

I chose to keep it simple with the backing,

piecing together some leftover vintage sheets I had

in my stash.

The finished size is 47" X 62"...

perfect napping size!

I had a fun time finding places to photograph it

earlier today!

It seemed appropriate to photograph the hexie

flowers...

against a background of real flowers!

Or anywhere that made me smile!

I have called my last finish for 2015

"Kew Gardens".

Thank you to all my loyal followers....

here's to a great 2016!

A quick update....

Amidst the madness of the Christmas rush,

Mr PnP and I have had a few days at the beach!

recharging the batteries with some walks and, of course....

some sewing for me!

In the recent Aussie Christmas swap, I received

not only two wonderful fabric creations

 but all these extras,

including heaps of precut hexies!

So it would have been rude not to have started

something new!

This lovely quilt greeted me at the Airbnb property

where we stayed!

Isn't it a beauty?

I'm thinking I might make this in modern colours,

maybe even solids.

And this is what I achieved after a couple of nights

stitching.

Not sure what I'll make yet, I'm just enjoying the

process at the moment!

Finally an update on my Chuck Nohara blocks....

Twelve blocks made!

Happy days!
