If you haven't had these, it's a must! These are normally served at birthday parties or during the holidays. They are made with shredded chicken sauted with onion, pepper, garlic and tomato. Then they are mixed with shredded cabbage, carrots, mayo and mustard.

Tamales are eaten year round, you can typically hear someone yelling "TAMALES!" at 6 am every day in front of my abuelita's house in El Salvador. In the US my mom typically makes tamales during the holidays because they are a labor of love!

Casamiento is the Salvadoran version of the ever-popular combination of rice and beans. Easy to put together and so versatile, you can serve this with anything!

These resemble Mexican tostadas, because the tortilla is crisped and the "filling" is presented as a topping.
