Experimenting

Tonight, I am watching Ice Road Truckers or something like that. I never knew truckers drove over a frozen lake with ice only three feet deep. Talk of the ice cracking and a truck falling in make me nervous for them.

There is another show I want to see, Dog, the Bounty Hunter, both only once.

Tommy boiled four eggs for me. Two will probably go into tuna salad. I bought celery, so I will have some in the tuna salad.

When I first married, I made tuna salad with lots of ingredients. We both had two sandwiches from one bowl of tuna salad. They were not skimpy sandwiches, either.

Ice Road Truckers is off. It is just okay. I will never watch that again.

I am really ill. I think I know what is wrong, with two or three backup things going wrong. So, no pedaling. I can barely move right now. I never, ever go to bed without brushing my teeth. Sunday night, I just staggered off to bed with no thought of my teeth. UGH, cannot do that again.

Today was a pretty, warm day.

Dinner: we both had the meal we cooked last night--baked chicken, potato, carrots and slaw. This was a meal that came out of the oven after we had eaten. Delicious. I had very little. Later, I had a small bowl of strawberries and blueberries.

Have you ever seen Ice Road Truckers or Dog, the Bounty Hunter? Do you like them?

Car Shopping and Best News

 Sort of...

After the fiasco of a doctor visit, I wanted to redeem the day with something positive toward our goals. Well, car dealer had other thoughts.

We went to Bessemer to car lots, passing four lots on the way to his target. Well, there was only one car there, obviously the person who was going to lock the door on the way out.

So, we went back to the other lots. One only had one SUV; one had the entrance blocked; another had only trucks, it appeared; one had so little room we feared we could not get out.

Then, we went to place that had the Buick. This is third time there. The first time, we told the guy D I was too tired to get out and we would return. We did but could not get out to vehicles because there was a car blocking the circle of vehicles. Someone moved that obstacle and we drove the Buick around the lot. I was having trouble walking and it was sooo hot. I told the guy R that I had to go. After the other lots above, I wanted to go back to this lot.

The guy R came to the car. I asked about getting in to see the cars. The guy fiddled with a tiny piece of paper and asked if we came about the Buick. (Oh, I did ask why they kept the circle of cars blocked. He said, "Because we don't want people driving into there and bumping cars.) I said, "No." He said, "Which one do you want to see." I said, "I don't know." He just stood there, did not look at me, and continued fiddling with the piece of paper that was smaller than a gum wrapper. I continued to look at him, wondering if he was going to say anything. Then, somehow, my window slowly went up. He turned on his heels at that point and left.

STRANGE!

We came home.

Somehow, I slept wrong Monday night, and my neck was stiff the next morning. Tuesday night it was not better. This morning, Wednesday, it seems to have gone into my shoulder blade/back. The TV is to the left of me, so it is hard to watch TV without sort of turning my body. I take a baby aspirin every night, so I may take 2 or 3 tonight. We don't have regular aspirin in the house. Neither of us take anything for pain. We just hurt...lol.

We forgot to get the ads today, but I was napping part of the day. We will do that as soon as I round up Tommy...lol.

Best news of all. I am rarely hungry! And, I have lost more weight. I hear about elderly people not wanting much to eat. Am I there? Amithere? Hurray!

Early evening, I mentioned to Tommy he needed to cook the package of pork for the taco soup. OH SHOOT!!! What? He said he forgot to take it out of the freezer. I told him we could just boil it to thaw it. I think he was relieved I was not irritated. Yes, I do get irritated when he does not get out a chunk of frozen chicken breasts that I have reminded him about for three days.

Taco Soup--ground pork, Five Cheese Italian Shredded Cheese, Taco Seasoning, two cans black beans-drain, one can whole kernel corn, two cans tomato bits or chunks, 1/2 cup Uncle Ben's Parboiled Rice. Put as much or as little as you like of any of this to your taste. I am not as thrilled with the corn as everything else, so I put less. This is actually double the recipe. Okay, I do not double the rice.

I will freeze enough for two generous helpings. The night we opened a package when we were starving and exhausted, was a happy occasion for us. It will happen again. This was a great meal for that occasion. I will have a salad, also, tonight. Okay, I finally am hungry! Very hungry.

Stevie Wonder is playing and singing at DNC.

Doctor's office has not called me back. I gave her all day so I could not be blamed for rushing her or nurse.

About 6pm I realized we had not gotten ads. We got them and there are sales/bogo to buy. YAY!

I forgot to call about the dog today and yesterday. But, both days we have tried to call the dog and nothing. So, maybe someone rescued it.

The weather has been surprisingly mild here, especially during mornings and evenings. Of course, and thankfully, the heat is coming back. We still are under a drought. That is hard to believe when we see people drowning, roads flooding, and houses with water in them in other areas of the country.

Tomorrow, the plan is to go across town to Home Depot for a door and to used car lots.

What are your plans for Thursday?

Take a Quiz to Reveal Your Dog Soul

This quiz was fun, especially when Tommy should get a Golden Retriever. Mine was a disappointing Corgi. I wanted mine to be a Border Collie or a Golden Retriever.

Answer These Questions And We’ll Tell You What Dog Breed To Adopt - Daily Funny

After you take the quiz, what dog was chosen for you?

Are you happy with that choice?

Dinner on Thursday--chicken cooked in crockpot, slaw with diced tomatoes in it, 1/2 cob of corn on cob. Actually, I always cut my corn off cob on my plate. The tomato dices I ate were almost a cup full. It was a huge tomato, and I only ate about half. Wonderful tomato. I am having strawberries I froze last week.

Ads + Cat or Dog

We ate the second helping of the pork chops and potatoes tonight. The potatoes are so bitter I cannot eat them. I asked Tommy if they were bitter and how could he eat them. He shrugged his shoulders and said, "I just eat them." Well, I could not. I sliced cheese thinly over the top and reheated them. That made the potatoes much more palatable.

I intended to use onions over the whole thing today but ate very late. Everything happened late today! ugh

For a while, my computer had so many ads popping up. Finally, after the McAfee person eliminated all ads, I can actually read without having to scramble to delete them all the time to see the page. The person signing in from Russia was the last straw.

Wednesday, the plumber will come to fix whatever water leak is on the floor by the commode. I would guess that the leak is the seal failing. I thought Tommy was dribbling until the damp spot on the rug was over six inches across one morning.

We went out for a bit today. It was almost balmy at 65F. The driveway was damp, but it was not humid out. This is so much better than sub-zero temps. One dandelion decided it was spring. Midnight here and 58F. Wow! Tommy is outside barefoot and in his boxers taking out the garbage. More boxes are gone! I don't feel the need for two throws over me. It is very warm.

Tommy and I were talking, so I will let anyone register their opinion, too. If you could come back as a cat of dog, which would you choose? I chose cat. Tommy chose dog. How about you?

Hindsight--Can You Relate?

13F and COLD

Everything is all frozen up--interstate, roads, ramps.
I got one thing mostly done today. The table next to me is a mess with stuff--receipts, tags, floss, nose sprays, tubes of stuff, pens, coins, you name it. I cannot get the trash off by reaching or by standing and bending. So, I had Tommy bend and put it all in a shallow box. Then, I sorted it. No, I did not finish it. However, the lion's share is done. Table top has been thoroughly cleaned.

One thing I did was to put all tubes, sprays, bottles, pots of self care into a tiny train case. Yes, I will have to dig in there, but it is contained and will not fall off the table. Lots of pieces of paper went into recycling.

When I finish this table, I have another on the other side. However, it has a lip that keeps things from falling off. That means it can hold more!

I told Tommy I thought that somehow closing the vent into the bedroom between my bedroom and the living room was making heat or ac not reach the bedroom as well. I mentioned that on Tuesday I would really like the vent open. He went right in and opened it. Guess what? The room was warmer all night last night and today. Usually in really cold weather I am faced with arctic weather at the door. In hot weather, the air right at the door is suffocating. No more.

I read today that older people need temperature from 69F to 77F in bedroom to sleep. The thermostat is set at 69, so Tommy thinks it is 69F in all the rooms.

I will fix this justification thing tomorrow.

It is still too cold and frozen to get out. The pipes are doing fine. How are things at your location? I hear it is going to warm up in some places.

Don't forget free scoop at Chicken Salad Chick on Thursday. If the temp is too low, we will just skip it.

The card today and yesterday are from TEMU. No, I won't buy them, just popped up.

Dogs and Pi(e) Day

My sister’s dogs were always very excited about the prospect of a walk.

One day, I was visiting my sister and doing some sewing for her. Suddenly the dogs were all over me. I was screeching in fear and the dogs were yelping and barking and running around me.  My sister had told me that my screeching made the dogs think I was playing and made them excited, so I tried to remain calm even though I was frighetened. But, not this time. My sister came flying down the stairs, cursing and demanding to know what I was "doing" to her dogs. Then she started laughing as she saw the tape measure I was carrying. She said they thought we were going for a walk and I had brought a leash. From then on, if I came down the stairs with a tape measure, I stuffed it under my shirt.

Today, I managed unload stuff from the front seat of the car. Well, someone came and took things I had put things in there.

The font color changes all on its own! ugh

Thursday,
friend had just come from lunch with a friend, celebrating with an St. Patrick's Day meal of corned beef and cabbage. She asked if I wanted her leftovers. I took them, a to-go box with corned beef, cabbage, three tiny new potatoes, and a corn muffin. I left most of the meat and muffin until later. So, that was late lunch/early dinner for me.

It may seem yucky to eat a friend's leftovers. Whatever. Would you? The beef, muffin, and potatoes are fine. Only the cabbage off her plate might be seen as disgusting. Would eat it?

Each day, I do just a bit more in the yard, maybe five minutes worth. It is not much, but it is all I can do.

I showed her my "garden," a collection of buckets and containers. She has a full-sized tractors with all the equipment to do a real garden and lots of land. She crawls along planting, something I could never do. She is saving the garlic and onions I gave her to plant later. The tulips I gave her, two bulbs, are already in the ground.

She lives in the country and has neighbors with huge commercial farms and gets lots of produce. Lucky her.

I had to search to find Thin Mints. Now, I am off to get them. Okay, I got the Thin Mints and ate the whole box.

In Publix I found a treat. They were giving away samples of pie for Pi day.

It is not too cold and sunny today. I found someone to mow my yard! I count this as a good day, if not productive. Hopefully, he will come soon.

Your turn
Did you observe Pi day? Would you eat your friend's leftovers? Do your dogs or friend's dogs misunderstand things? Give me a good dog story.

Now I know! Puppies, too

Tired

PM Thursday, I felt a bit tired, more tired than usual. Friday, I took a nap when exbf was here when I lay down just to rest. Friday night, I could not recover and became more tired by the minute. Saturday morning, I felt off and worse. I took a four-hour nap on Saturday afternoon and awoke finally knowing I was ill.

I could not keep my balance, felt woozy, stumbled on non-existent things, hands trembled doing things, dropped items or fumbled them. A trip to the doctor was in order. I knew it was a uti. I checked in at 4:30 and they close at 6 pm.

With a prescription awaiting me at WM, I got out of his office by 5:58. I have only had one dose, so I am still getting worse. (written Sat night) Now, I know why I felt so crummy for several days, why I have had no energy to plant onions or garlic.

Hair

About 2 am this Saturday morning after the Friday afternoon haircut, I finally looked at my haircut and combed my hair. He left a piece of hair about 2 inches long that grows right behind my ear, well it hangs there and is on my neck. I can feel and see many more places like that.

I figured out what he did. Picture this. He held my hair between two fingers with the 1/2 inch I wanted cut below his fingers. Then, he cut 1/2 inch above his fingers. That means he cut a full two inches from my hair! Unbelievable! Now I know what he did. It does not make me one bit happier, but I am not so baffled that an engineer did not know a half inch.

"Cut off a half inch." ???

It is Sunday PM and I have had two does of meds and it is time for another. Amazingly, I feel almost cured, but, of course, I will take all the meds. I keep thinking I am better, then try to do things. No, I feel a tiny bit better. Laundry is the only thing I am doing, it seems.

I wish it would quit raining! The temps are down from 80s to 53. Bummer.

Puppies

People park at Walmart with a sign on their cars...PUPPIES. I have to look. The first I saw were retriever/husky mix. There was cute on that was so furry, the only one who had long hair, they said. Of course, I have no fence, so I get no puppy. I won't have a dog in the house due to allergies. I just look.

The next Saturday, a car with husky/lab mix puppies was in the WM parking lot. Cute. The next week, a carload of puppies had a sign...$20. The first two cars had people all around and people were carrying them off. The third car had no one even looking. The only dog I ever had after divorce was a Border Collie, and that is what I want when I get one. I want to teach her the chickens are hers to guard and she can herd them.

Have the temperatures at your house fluctuated the last few days, like 30 degrees? My Border Collie herded me. Do you have or ever had a dog that herds? Can you tell me a story?

I Need Competition

When I give Dominique food, she just sometimes looks at me as if to say, "Huh? This is it?" She dives right in most of the time, but sometimes she is very tentative.

This makes me think back to when I had four hens. They each would dive in and get a piece of bread or scrap of chicken or vegetables and then beat a swift retreat to one of the four corners of their pen. I wish I had made a video of this action.

Chickens are very competitive. But, Dominique has no competition! I need some competition out in the chicken yard.

When the children were small, we had Puppy who was the most jealous and competitive dog I have ever seen. My neighbor behind me would put out two plates of food on his patio each evening for our cat and dog. I was looking out the window as Puppy arrived well ahead of our cat, Cat. Puppy went to one plate and sniffed it. She then went to the other, identical plate and took the baked potato from it, deposited it on her plate next to her baked potato and started eating.

No one would name the cat and dog, so they remained Cat and Puppy. When we got another dog, I named him. I gave the rest of the household a week or so, maybe three days to name the second dog. Finally, I named him Rudolph. Everyone in the house moaned and groaned but no one had a name. So, his name stayed, shortened by me to Rudy.

Dominique needs some competition at the feed! Or, is it best she eats at her leisure?

Your turn
Do you have animals who are competitive? With food or your lap?
