THINGS FOR SALE
I have some things for sale if you want to buy them.
-- I wrote a zine about 70's punk band ICE 9 / COUNT VERTIGO. I'm very happy with it.
-- SBSM, an Oakland band playing destructive synth, put out their 2nd tape with me.
-- My old band RICE HARVESTER reunited in August to play one show in Chattanooga, TN. We have some ridiculous shirts left over if you want one.

MRR Radio #1473 - 10/4/15 - Service Interruption
Here's a link to the MRR Radio show I hosted a few weeks ago. I forgot to post it earlier. Obviously, I haven't been posting on here in quite a while and with very little regularity. Things have been pleasantly busy and hectic in the day to day. I can't complain. I'm planning on returning to the blog in late December with a pile of moldy ass tapes for you to enjoy. Until then (and after then), feel free to check out Terminal Escape for all of the fucked up tapes you can handle and keep on keepin' on.

Too much technology. Never fear, I'm not on Instagram because there's no way I can afford an Iphone. I can't even get the internet on my phone. I can barely even make phone calls on the thing.

BACK IN ACTION
The blog and computer are now repaired and we will return to our regularly unscheduled program. Multiple truckloads of thanks go to Anandi Wonder for doing most of the repairs while I walked around in circles complaining like a stressball spacecase. Just as many thank-you's and high fives should go to people who donated money to help cover repairs to the computer. You're all very wonderful people.
Expect more music very soon.

Useless Chatter / Life Update
My band just put out a new 7". If you would like to order a copy from us, you can get it on our page here. You can also get it from Vinyl Rites. You can also download it for free on our bandcamp page. If you want to donate a few bucks, you can do that too. We'll use the money to make more stuff or put it towards recording. If you want to keep up with our shows (only local ones until late in the year), you can find that info here.
I'm going to sleep for 15 hours. When I wake up, I will post some more music. Until then, just go listen to COUNTY Z. It's totally worth it.

THE REASON WHY MOST OF THE DOWNLOAD LINKS ON THIS SITE ARE DEAD
I'll try to keep this business talk short. It started happening little by little: Mediafire was taking down some of my download links for violating their over-arching and somewhat puritanical terms of service. Bands like TWAT SAUCE, FUCK YEA AVOCADO and SHITHEAD JONES were just too far of a step over the line for them. That's fine. I can deal with that. They were placing "strikes" against my account for these offenses. Then, one day, they took down a number of files all at once (including a live HICKEY set, a practice tape of ME, YOU AND THE BOYS and DR DRE DEL [a musician I actually got permission from]) because they also violated Mediafire's vague terms (seriously, after taking the time to read them, the company can do whatever they want to any of your files at any time with no explanation.). After removing all of these files, they locked my account, thereby turning the majority of this site into less of an interactive fun thing and more into the nostalgic ramblings of a hopeful lunatic. (but you can still download TOMMY LASORDA, the live HICKEY recording and some other stuff)
I contacted customer service, which I already knew would be an exercise in tedious futility. I was gonna print the entire ridiculous email exchange, but there's no point. Basically, they told me that I need to "demonstrate" that I have permission from all of the musicians that have been shared through my account. A cursory glance at my account tells me that I would need explicit permission from at least 900 people to cover all of my bases. 25 of the bands are bands that I played in. A lot of those people are dead. I tried to explain to them the basic tenets of punk, the lack of copyrights, the idea of community as if I was explaining it to my grandfather who died in 1983, but it just made things way more frustrating.
Basically, I'm not getting that account unlocked. If any of your music has been on this site and you want to tell them that "hey, it's cool", be my guest. You might get an entertaining email back from them, but don't expect anything productive to happen. DON'T LINK THEM TO THIS BLOG. You can tell them that you're writing on behalf of the account associated with the email address rick_harvester@yahoo.com (don't write me there. I will never, ever respond to it.). Their email address is esupport@mediafire.com.
I'm taking the next week off to figure some shit out, gather some tapes and decide if this is all worth it. If you want anything re-uploaded, comment here and tell me what it is. I'll do my best. You can also mail me a tape plus $5 cash and I will tape anything in my collection for you (p.o.b. 40786, SF, CA 94140. US only please). Also, if you know where I live, feel free to stop by and tape anything you want.
Stay Punk.

THIS IS ONLY A TEST
- My partner in crime, Anandi wanted the blog to have email alerts. I thought it would be annoying, but she found it to be really helpful. It's a voluntary thing and I'm sure you're good at making your own decisions. If you want to get updates to your email whenever I post some inane ramblings on here (like this), please sign up over there on the right.
- I am trying out a new file sharing service. I am doing a test run with FUCK YEA AVOCADO and the FUCK THE CURSE compilation. Tell me how it works out. If it works well, I will re-upload dead links. You have to tell me which ones because I have no clue (leave comments on this post). I will re-up them after January 20th, because....
- I'm gonna be away from the desk for a little bit, so no new music until after January 20th. I will still be posting random year end top ten lists almost daily. I have many more to come. If you are in Chattanooga, TN (Sat, Jan 12th), Greenville, SC (Tues, Jan 15th) or Asheville, NC (Fri, Jan 18th), please come see the rare sightings of my band, BLACK RAINBOW. It will be fun.

Blasting off for tour!
The blog is closed until late June because I am going to travel and tour in Europe. In the meantime, why don't you download everything I've posted from Alabama? Or everything with the tag drunk? How about weirdo? Or you can just go outside and go on a bike ride. If you live in Europe, please ride your bike over to one of our shows in one of your fine countries. You can find all of the tour dates for our band, NEON PISS, right here. If you want to hear the band first, you can listen to us on our bandcamp page. We will have a new LP for sale with us. Thanks!

Slowing It Down
I'm gonna be slowing down the posts to around one a week for a while because I am trying to work on other creative projects. I'm currently trying to write two zines as well as work on two records while working full time and preparing for a long European tour. Doing this blog is fun. I like to write so much about all of these bands but sometimes I don't have the motivation to work on other writing projects as much. So, I'm taking a little break. In the future, I will be going through a fellow archivist's tapes (she has piles upon piles of treasures) as well as continuing on with my ever-growing mounds of cassettes (I am building a house out of them right now). In the meantime, check out Terminal Escape, Region Rock and More, Do Ya Hear We, Turned Word and Lighten Up Sounds for some downloadable and physical music. All are highly recommended.

REMOTE OUTPOSTS on the MAXIMUM ROCK N ROLL website.
When I was a teenager living in Alabama, I thought that Maximum Rock N Roll was a totally useless rag that covered shitty bands and stupid attitudes that had nothing to do with my life whatsoever. Now, I write for them. I came to realize that MRR is only as good as what the punks put into it, since it is largely contributor based. Sure, I still think there is some complete shit within its pages, but I think it is fairly representative of the worldwide punk scene, which also has many shitty parts. If you play in a band, write a zine, run a show space or eat, breathe and live punk 24/7, please contribute something to the magazine. Also, they are still looking for a new head coordinator. If you think you can handle that responsibility, get in touch with them.
Thanks to MRR (and Paul) for the excellent write-up about Remote Outposts on their blog...and thanks to them for continuing to exist and be punk, relevant, and fiercely DIY.
