SORA Help
- About Searching
-
- "Simple Search" searches all site content using the built-in search function, and may provide unexpected results.
- "Advanced Search" filters the article and journal issue pages based on entries in the fields and selections in the Journal dropdown. This search may provide more satisfactory results.
- Search looks for exact, case-insensitive keywords; keywords shorter than a minimum length are ignored.
- Use upper-case OR to get more results. Example: cat OR dog (content contains either "cat" or "dog").
- You can use upper-case AND to require all words, but this is the same as the default behavior. Example: cat AND dog (same as cat dog, content must contain both "cat" and "dog").
- Use quotes to search for a phrase. Example: "the cat eats mice".
- You can precede keywords by - to exclude them; you must still have at least one "positive" keyword. Example: cat -dog (content must contain cat and cannot contain dog).
- Browser Support
- When a web page does not display correctly, it is often because the web browser being used is outdated. The latest browsers can be downloaded from Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Chrome, or Microsoft Internet Explorer sites.
- Acrobat Reader Browser Plug-in
- If you receive a message similar to "Windows cannot open this file", it usually means that a different type of program needs to be installed. The SORA archives are provided in PDF format. The latest plug-ins can be downloaded from the Adobe Acrobat Viewer sites.
- Errors Downloading or Viewing PDF Files
- A common error message received when attempting to view Adobe Acrobat (pdf) files is, "File does not begins with '%PDF-'." Another common problem is for a file to begin downloading, but lock up before completing the download. Adobe offers a support page to help with several issues that may be involved.
