Missing Persons - Words (Capitol)
This year's flash American import and, of course, they're the hottest band on the LA club scene. They're going to play a showcase date in London, of course, and appear on The Tube. Fronted by an ex Playboy bunny who sounds more sickly than a lemon popsicle, I reckon they'll go down like their predecessors the Motels, but, with the charts in a strange mood at the moment, I could be kind and say that you never know. Tina Turner - What's Love Got To Do With It (Capitol)
Well, it looks as if the Tina Turner revival was a flash in a well preserved pan. At a complete loss for a follow-up to "Let's Stay Together" she first tried a dreadful Beatles cover, and now here's a piece of limp reggae pop. The next move may well be an attempt to jump on the breakers bandwagon - careful Tina, a fracture could prove troublesome at your age. Perhaps you'd better apply to The Smiths for your next new lease of life. (Sunie, No 1, June 9, 1984)
She still looks fantastic (he sighs). Don't like it, I'm afraid. It reminds me of Marianne Faithfull. It's like an out-take from her Dangerous Acquaintances LP. I'm disappointed. Where's the raunchola this week? (John Taylor, Smash Hits, June 21, 1984)

Katrina And The Waves - Do You Want Crying (Capitol)
Similar thrashing pop-rock to "Walking On Sunshine" but without its energy, this probably sounds better blaring from the radio of a convertible full of surfboards and nubile Californian teenagers than it does from my Walkman on a drizzly afternoon in the laundrette. (Kimberley Leston, Smash Hits, July 31, 1985)
