snac.daltux.net is a Fediverse instance that uses the ActivityPub protocol. In other words, users at this host can communicate with people that use software like Mastodon, Pleroma, Friendica, etc. all around the world.
This server runs the snac software and there is no automatic sign-up process.
It looks like I have some difficulties choosing a #FreeBSD #desktop :)
#XFCE4 is kind of light, and has some lovely perks (use scroll wheel to reduce any window to its title bar, and to change virtual desktops). Thunar needs less tuning than Dolphin to match my preferences. And it’s easy to get rid of unwanted buttons in session menus (sleep/restart/shutdown… that I don’t need, for it’s an always on PC).
#Plasma6 is instantly gorgeous and is very appealing, I want to use it. But it looks like many bits are tuned for Linux out of the box and don’t work well / as intended on FreeBSD. For a start, there is a complete and detailed sound control panel that just won’t work, event though my sound is just working. And don’t let me start about the taskbar widgets. Also, it’s "heavier" than XFCE4.
I don’t understand its Keyboard control panel, by the way. I’ve lost a week to that thing trying to configure my KB layout before giving up and moving to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/00-keyboard.conf
I feel more at home with XFCE4 but Plasma 6 in wearing a red dress!

How the Foundation’s Laptop Support & Usability Project Came Together

"… The Laptop Support & Usability Project is not just about laptops. It is about making FreeBSD more usable, more approachable, and more practical for the kinds of day-to-day use cases that help bring people into the community and keep them there. …"
@dgoodkin wow. Thank you. I haven't seen as good an overview of a complex project, and its context, in a long time. Years.

@passthejoe was your use of sysutils/desktop-installer for X.Org, or for Wayland?

desktop-installer is not the new desktop installer.
It's a port that was added more than sixteen years ago:

xfce4-terminal, its GUI menu also allows you to set tabs name and even color. 😎🙉 Working from home, I've still been using a basic pair of #desktop #speakers, where I also plug in the laptop to other peripherals that stay there: mic, keyboard, monitor. Probably due to some sort of contact issue, after less than a month, the left speaker's already kaput. Got them from a small shop in another town, so returning them is a hassle. 🌐 The Earth's probably shedding a tear over this seemingly crude waste of materials.
