snac.daltux.net is a Fediverse instance that uses the ActivityPub protocol. In other words, users at this host can communicate with people that use software like Mastodon, Pleroma, Friendica, etc. all around the world.
This server runs the snac software and there is no automatic sign-up process.

Mitra 5.1.0 is now availible everywhere where you can get my container images!
on the 4th of janurary i uploaded a faulty image of mitra 4.16.0 to the docker registries i publish to. Now i finally fixed it. I probably used the wrong docker image to make it but anyways fjox/docker will soon get updated to the latest mitra version.

hey so this is probably completely pointless but: looking for a job (NZ or fully remote willing to hire a kiwi) in SRE, security, or linux/Unix system administration. 15 years expereince administering Linux and Unix boxes, intermediate level of experience working with docker compose and containerisation and container security. No prior job experience unfortunately, all those 15 years were mostly personal projects and small-scale stuff for friends. Currently running an entire multi-machine personal cloud infrastructure with a demonstration of all the services I have running at https://status.highenergymagic.net. Entirely willing to accept entry-level job placements, no expectation of being paid a lot or anything, just want to be doing something and move the needle a little on my current "being broke" status. #fedihired #infosec #cybersecurity #linux #unix #docker #sre #DevOps #GetFediHired

Salut !

I'm on the eternal/impossible quest to find the perfect #notetaking app. I've tried them all and always end up disappointed. #SimpleNotes, #StandardNotes, #AppleNotes, #Notesnook, #Obsidian, #Anytype, etc. I'm tired of compromising.
I need something where I can just shove all my markdown or plaintext #notes (and corresponding images) into one folder and have an #opensource cross-platform (including #Docker) editing interface that can sync via #Nextcloud or #WebDAV or whatever. Where is this app??! Does it even exist?
The closest solution was Notational Velocity over a decade ago, but even that wasn't cross-platform.
Halp 😔
There's one last thing I need to get my head around with respect to using FreeBSD jails as a replacement for docker/podman.
I generally configure containers as totally ephemeral. Any data or individual files that a container uses, and that I care to keep, resides outside the container. It is linked inside via volumes defined in the run shell script or compose file. In some cases even dumb things like root's .bashrc gets linked in so that nuking a container doesn't lose the shell history the next time something needs hand fettling (mediawiki, maintenance scripts, composer, bootstrap, and friends - yes, needs more automation).
Any time a container gets restarted, step one may be to delete the container (and associated volumes it creates), re-pull latest and instantiate fresh. This is pretty typical for Jellyfin for example.
Also, working this way means that the entire backup process can exist outside the container volumes and nothing redundant in /var/lib/docker needs to get backed up.
Anyway, I need to figure out how to achieve something similar under FreeBSD jails. I'm assuming there is something in ZFS that provides a similar type of functionality during jail startup but haven't dug into it yet.
Then there's the 'correct' and easy way on how to upgrade the software inside a jail (os components and services the container runs) that needs experimentation on my side. Some scripting to do.
Jails seem much more elegant but there is lot of old cruft and 'finger memory' to work around. Ha. A lot of stuff is pre-wired and ready to go for regular usage in Linux containers in comparison, I think.
The journey continues.
En attendant de voir si ça finit en article ou en vidéo, je vous ai déjà préparé le terrain. Si vous voulez le déployer proprement (testé et validé en LXC Docker), mon Docker Compose et son fichier .env sont dispos sur mon ByteStash.

Advantage is that I figured out how to stop and delete containers
Disadvantage is I don't really know what's going on
I'm Blake — reintroducing myself as I'm back on the timeline.
I'm a Cloud Engineer working in Site Reliability and DevOps in the healthcare industry. I design and build highly scalable, resilient infrastructure that powers modern healthcare systems. Day-to-day I work with .NET, JavaScript, and TypeScript to deliver reliable platforms.
Outside of work, I build with Go — creating tools that prioritize performance, privacy, and user empowerment.
A couple things I'm working on:
RideAware — A cycling training platform for building structured training plans, analyzing ride data, and completing indoor workouts all in one place.
Arcline Hosting — A self-hosted web hosting service for people who want to know exactly where their data lives. It runs on hardware I own and operate — no AWS, no Cloudflare, no third-party CDN. Shared, WordPress, and VPS plans with personal ticket and email support.
My core interests span SRE, cloud infrastructure, DevOps/automation, and network engineering. I spend a lot of time with Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and enjoy digging into routing, firewalls, and secure network design.
I'm here because I care about privacy, self-hosting, and building things that give people more control over their own data. Good to be back — looking forward to reconnecting with this community.

It includes integrated Let's Encrypt certificate issuance, static file caching via the Souin plugin, HTTP security headers, and more. This is the setup I'm using for my own instance.
It's available for anyone to study, use, or adapt. While it's being reviewed for the main snac2 project, you can find all the files on a branch in my repository.
