Nest Aware subscription offers two recording options:

• Continuous 24/7 video recording.
• Event video recording, where the camera or doorbell only saves video upon detected activity.

Nest Aware uses advanced algorithms to send you more intelligent motion and sound alerts. These alerts are more helpful because they're more accurate and focus on the events that matter.

Cameras

Nest camera models offer varying levels of human detection. You can get “Person seen” or “Familiar face” alerts.

If you have a Nest doorbell, you can also get package alerts when a package is dropped off or picked up in its view.

Some cameras can send different alerts for different sounds. With Nest Aware, these cameras can tell the difference between a person's speech and a dog's bark. You can pick which sounds you want to get alerts about and which ones your camera should ignore.

Speakers and displays

Important:

• Emergency calling and glass break alerts are not available in the Nest app.
• Google Home Max does not support sound detection.

Google Nest and Home speakers and displays in the US can detect sounds like smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, and breaking glass. If detected, Nest Aware sends an alert to your Home app that allows you to use Emergency calling with the Home app if necessary.

If you set up the Nest Cam on Nest Hub Max, you can also get notifications in the Nest app.

You can create your own custom zones to cover the areas you want to be notified about. When there's important activity in a zone, Activity Zones let your camera send alerts and mark your video history timeline.

How to set up and use Activity Zones.

• Based on your subscription, Nest Aware comes with up to 60 days of event video history. It saves clips to the cloud when your camera detects motion or sound.
• Your video history shows only clips of these motion or sound events. During times with no detected events, it shows blank areas.

• If you have a newer camera like Nest Cam (battery), Nest Cam (indoor, wired, 2nd gen), or Nest Doorbell (battery), you can get up to 3 hours of event video history without a subscription for these newer cameras:

  • Nest Cam (battery)
  • Nest Cam (indoor, wired, 2nd gen)
  • Nest Doorbell (battery)

• Nest Aware Plus and 1st gen Nest Aware have continuous 24/7 video history. Your camera's video stream continuously records and saves securely and privately in the cloud.

• Event video history isn't available for 1st gen Nest Aware. Continuous 24/7 video history is only available for wired Google Nest cameras and Nest doorbells. It is not available for Nest Doorbell (battery), even with optional wired installation.

Consider a Nest Aware Plus subscription if you need up to 10 days of continuous 24/7 video history, up to 60 days of event video history clips, or you need to record any of these:

• All events, even if no movement or sound occurs.
• Small animals like cats, squirrels and birds.
• People and objects when they don't move much, like people who sit and eat.
• Areas with poor or changing lighting, like many outdoor areas.

If you don't need to record any of the above, and you only need 30 days of video history, you may prefer Nest Aware for events-only recording in situations like these:

• Your camera monitors an indoor area, and you only need it to record adults who enter, leave, and walk across the room.
• You have a doorbell camera, and you only need to record activity at your door.
• Your camera monitors an outdoor area, and people are clearly visible within your camera's field of view.
