Lesson #15 at the MFT Summer School was all about Colour Temperatures and how different temperatures evoke a different mood in a card. For instance cool colours, blues, greens and purples can be used to create a calm or serene effect. MFT says that " A neutral colour palette (black, white, browns, greys) often evokes a classy, elegant, sophisticated, and glamorous feel". I went for the neutral palette as I thought this was the most challenging and I was right (I think). My chosen image is from Lili of the Valley, adding to challenge of making a white polar bear stand out in the snow...... yep I know. My initial intention was to use greys, so I stamped the image in MFT Grout Grey. Greys seemed a little cool so I added beige to soften the effect. What you can't see is the subtle sparkle I added to the snow falling. I do like how it turned out but am not sure it fits classy, elegant, sophisticated and glamorous, well maybe just a little.

Butterflies inspired by Apples.
The new challenge at Paper Smooches Sparks for this week was to be inspired by this picture
When I look at this is makes me think of burlap and twine, handmade and homespun. Something well loved.
I used Paper Smooches Butterflies 1 die, which if you use your imagination looks like a half an apple. I chose more muted reds and greens and inked the edges to add an aged effect and buttons with twine in the centres to represent the core or body of the butterfly. When you look at the picture above there are six apple halves but the last one is quite different hence this is where I placed my sentiment. And of course I have turned the picture around.
I also used the principles from MFT Summer School Lesson #13 Hard Vs Soft. Defined as: For every hard line or edge you place on a card, the design is balanced by some softness. The hard on this card is the rectangular shape, the brown frame and the buttons, offset by the softness of the butterfly shape, the little bit of twine and the sentiment. In this card I think the white is hard and the little edge of beige offers some softness as does the inking on the edge on the butterflies wings.

Shiny, Blingy, Happy things
It is time to begin our new challenge over at Southern Girls Challenge which this fortnight is SHINE, so make sure and use glitter, bling, spica pens, liquid pearls or anything in your stash that has a bit of a shimmer or shine for your projects. We have 2 great sponsors offering lovely prises so pop on over to check out the details.
My card is using a great image from Inky Impressions called "All wrapped up Kitty". I tried to photograph it to show all the shine. The Ribbon is over coloured with Spica clear pen. The paper has glitter dots and I added rhinestones and sparkly sequins for that extra bit of bling.
Now go dive into your stash and pull out all the shiny glittery things and come join us.

Pretty Patterns
CAS-UAL Fridays have started a new challenge called CAS-UAL Chic for those of us who like layers and a bit of "more" on our cards. The current challenge has the theme of Pretty Patterns. I have several layers on this card, using a stamped image, lots of pretty patterned paper, twine sequins and a few other bobs. I used Daisy Panel stamp from Lili of the Valley and very pretty paper from their Country Meadow collection.
Entered into the CCC02 Pretty Pattern Challenge

This little Chickie
I was thrilled to be selected as the winner of the Paper Smooches July Designer Drafts winner with my shaker card two posts down. Its pretty tough competition as there is so much talent out there.
This weeks Paper Smooches Sparks challenge is anything goes and the jury is still out on this card. Its not that I don't like it, I'm just not sure if I pulled it off. I had a go at a multiple window shaker card using the cute clouds die, I had the idea of the chick from Chubby Chums floating amongst the clouds. I'll let you be the judge on this one. Kathy from the Daily Marker very wisely said that you should post a card you are unsure about as even if you don't like it someone else will.

Geek and Girly
This is my first August Design Collective card for Lili of the Valley. Geek and Girly was one of the new stamps in recent release. She really appealed to me and reminded me of my daughter and her quirky little ways. The sentiment is from Vintage sentiments - Just to say and the papers used are from the Romance and Roses collection. The design is pretty simple which I think suits her.
Thanks for stopping by!!

Shakers gonna shake......
I am having fun making shaker cards, my next post is likely to be a shaker too, so be warned. I have just ordered some more sequins as I only have a few left. I never thought I'd be a sequin kind of girl but here I am in love with the little things. I used the sketch from Paper Smooches Challenge for this card. The frame is Paper Smooches Frame 2 and the butterfly and sentiment come from the flap happy stamp set. The papers are from Lili of the Valley Romance and Roses collection.
I don't like to overfill the shaker with sequins and I also glued some down on the background so they float even when the shaker is still.
