Two great Aussie Coaches?

Gary Van Egmond is still the best, but Aurelio Vidmar is on the move...and quick.

Van Egmond's side were a goal down to Adelaide and having used their three subs and when Jason Hoffman got injured they were down to ten.

But Van Egmond did what few coaches ever do even when they have a full complement.

He pushed men forward going for the equaliser.

Ricky Herbert can't you get Fox in New Zealand:)

In Tarek Elrich he has a potent weapon. Elrich sped into the box, beat a couple and brought a wonderful save from Adelaide United's starman Eugen Galagovic. Great football.

And later Elrich produced some more magic.

Adelaide scored another late on, but Ante Covic was to blame not the coaches aggressive attacking policy.

Pity they couldn't show such energy and verve when they had eleven mind you.

As for Adelaide Vidmar is an astute coach, as his Asian record shows.

He still has a bit to go to get the same versatility from his team as Van Egmond but he's moving his pieces in games, very very effectively and no doubt Asia is teaching him a lot.

He's young, and even after losing Bruce Djite and Nathan Burns he has created a new team which can only get better.

Monday News: Matildas, Harry Kewell, and more

Matildas, Harry Kewell, Nathan Burns, Fed Cup Scores, Futsalroos and more. Wake up to football in Canberra on a Monday morning!

Matildas squad for America and Young Matildas squads will be announced on Monday. Details here tomorrow.

Fed Cup scores.
Belwest win the Women's Fed Cup 4-2 on penalties over Belconnen United. See earlier blog story for details.

O'Connor Knights beat Canberra FC 3-2 in a shock win in the men's Federation Cup.

AIS
AIS got back to winning ways this weekend when they beat Preston 3-0 in the Foxtel Cup

Nathan Burns is expected to singn for Norwegian club SK Brann. Adelaide United Coach Aurelio Vidmar says,"We're just waiting for an offer really, but we expect him to go."

Harry Kewell linked with Man United. Interesting rumour I guess. He's cheap, no transfer fee, and Ryan the lefty Giggs is nearly done.

Futsalroo Coach is off to Oceania to run their Futsal program. Will he stay with the Futsalroos?

"That's up to the FFA, and if people think there is a conflict of interest."

With all the travel this year, a World Cup year, it's perhaps surprising that Mr Futsal has taken up this post.

Anyone who has talked to Scott will know his frustrations at the development of Futsal since the FFA have taken charge.

Sarkies bagged by Aurelio Vidmar!

Kristian Sarkies is a dead ball specialist so everyone says. This is the gist of what Aurelio Vidmar, Adelaide United's Coach said last night on Total Football.

"But you know what" continues Aurelio "he's never scored a goal from a free-kick."

And the bagging didn't stop there!

And Sarkies was dropped last week from the squad. Still holds an Olyroos place and suffered similar humiliation in Melbourne last season despite Hiddink taking him to train on at the World Cup.

Should Aurelio Vidmar have bagged a player, a young player so publicly on Televison.

Bad move Aurelio. Have you ever heard the great managers like Alex Ferguson do such a thing to a young player.

Great TV, but really the player had no right of reply. Very undignified and perhaps we can put it down to first year mistake. But really with his experience in the game, Vidamr should no better.

If he has told Sarkies what is required, then surely that is good enough to see how the player responds.

Can't imagine Sarkies or the other players will be to impressed by the public bagging.

Adelaide bow out the Asian Champions League

Seongnam Ilhwa 1 Adelaide United 0

A narrow defeat left Adelaide's ACL campaign in tatters. With two games to go Adelaide are out of this year's competition.

Still they have plenty to build on for next year and what about sorting the coach out in South Australia.

Has Aurelio Vidmar done enough to get the job?
