Back on track!

I was trailing behind on the 365 challenge. 3 months in and I only had 56 completed.

That has all changed! Finally finishing off the first tranche of 66 Epic figures I've managed to take the tally from 56 up to 122. Perfect!I'm well ahead now! I've also managed to squeeze in some extra stuff too.

First up then......6mm Iron Warriors.

36 Stands of Marines
18 Rhinos
8 Land Raiders
4 Contemptors

Doing the stripes was.....err....fun.

As we are planning to play Epic shortly I thought we better get prepared. The game requires blast markers for in game effects and I'd seen a nice tutorial on how to make some cool ones. Gave it a try and they worked out okay I think.

I've also been trying to prepare the next load of bits for the Iron Warriors but made some assumptions about how compatible 6mm stuff is. The turrets were from Vanguard and is transpires that their stuff, whilst lovely, is true scale. I posted this piccie to an Epic group on Facebook so people could laugh at me and my Noobiness but the owner of Vanguard responded offering to take them back for a full refund. Very Kind. In truth I'll probably just buy the tank chassis's that fit them. I still need predators after all!

At work I've been making progress on the 28MM Iron Warriors. Slowly but surely painting the hazard stripes on their pads. They're home now for finishing so I am very much in the hope that within the next 7-10 days I'll have another 66 figures to add to the tally. Painting the stripes has been less frustrating than I would have imagined. I am really looking forward to seeing the breachers finished as they look so cool!

I've painted sooooo many stripes lately that I really need a break from Iron Warriors and the thought of painting some Orks is making me smile. Quick and fun and dirty! With that in mind I have started getting some Epic Ork stuff prepped at work ready to spray and shift home.

Who doesn't love likkle dreddies?

On top of all this I've managed to squeeze in a couple of games. No. 17 Was AoS with the Seraphon getting a right smacking from the combined forces of Undead and Chaos. Bastards.

Game 18 was a quick game of X-Wing with Urn whilst we chin-wagged about Epic. Scum and Villainy earned their name as they stopped the heroic rebels from collecting vital cargo. That was medical supplies! Bastards!

Tomorrow night is a test game of Epic for me and Urn and I'm really looking forward to it!

Games 12 to 15

Gaming has slowed a little recently but we’re only in week nine of the year and I’ve managed to get fourteen games in already. Nice to be ahead at this time as I’m sure in will slow down during the summer months.

Game 12
Off to Lenton we went. I trailed behind the rest of the GoGs who got a game in on Friday but I couldn’t escape until Saturday morning. I headed up early and was really excited to see AoS at a bigger scale as I’d only really seen it at a small game level.
I played the Silverback and his awesome undead army of DDDOOOOOOOOMMMMM!!
Horrible. Just horrible.

The Mourngul in his army was literally a nightmare causing me now end of problems before I finally managed to drag it down using reinforcements I’d had to summon because the pasting my troops were taking.
Once I’d finally dropped that swine I was lucky enough to be able to move forward to threaten his necromancers and then it was all over for the undead as I could out summon them and there were still some big toothy dinosaurs roaming around.
Awesome game and a really good first proper game of AoS. Ta Silverback!

Game 13
The time was getting on once we’d finished our first games, milled about in shops and generally managed to get ourselves in order. We resolved to play a four way battle between The Silverback, BFG, Urn and myself. I think it was about 1000 points each but it was a throw for fun so it didn’t matter…….

…until Urn started firing his Dark Elf bolt thrower thingy at me! After that the gloves were off!
At which point he gave me a shoeing prior to the BFG joining in. Meanies!
The Silverback won that game as he kept the actual objectives in mind and managed to grab the most sectors on the field.

Game 14
Back to X-Wing at Junt’s house for game 14. We wanted to make sure we were playing through the missions as the last few games had been throw down battles and it is always nice to mix up the play so it doesn’t get stale. Urn had suggested the satellite mission from the rule book so we gave it a try.

At 100 points it seems somewhat skewed in favour of the rebels because they can get reinforcements. This said I didn’t need them as I didn’t lose a single ship. No shields left and some damage but generally healthy compared to Vadar and his squadron of Imperial Lackies.
I got lucky on the dice in this game with a couple of rounds of pretty tasty shooting. Oh and it didn’t hurt that Junt was playing dodgems not X-Wing. J

Games 8, 9, 10 & 11

Game 8 was another fairly easy game of Zombiecide. This was mission number 9 and we stomped them good!

Game 9 however was X-Wing!

Junt had four different Tie Fighter including one of the new defenders. All a bit unknown to me. I had the Millennium Falcon, a YT2400 & B-Wing.

The combination of the shields, high hull values and two ships with 360 guns proved too much and the Ties folded quickly.

Soooo…

For game 10
The Empire sent in the Decimator, a Tie with a cloaking device and one more fighter as well.

I swapped out the Millennium Falcon for an E-Wing and took a different YT2400. Those along with the B-Wing squared off vs the Imperials.

I concentrated early one with the Tie fighers whilst the Decimator was still closing and some lucky early shots killed the  Ties. After that it was just a matter of chipping away at the big one. Still took me a while and the YT2400 was all I had left at the end. The Decimator is horrible!

Game 11 was Zombiecide mission 10 and apart from a worrying conga line developing……..

…..we really didn’t have too much trouble. Zombiecide is going away now for awhile but it’ll be back……with add ons!

Warfare 2016

Junt and I went to Warfare at the weekend. Same old traders mostly but it was nice to see that Blotz were there. Annoying as I’d just put an order in with them two days earlier but nice to see them in person to have a chat to. Of course I came away from their stand with a few bits that I’d not ordered.

I was looking for paint racks so it was also good to be able to get my chosen ones from the nice peeps on the Warbases stand. Some paints and other bits and bobs and I was done. Junt kindly brought me a gift of some skips to add to the scrapyard and they are really lovely. Ta Junt!

Saturday night I obviously had to put the new acquisitions together. The Blotz stuff went together like a dream as did the Warbases and the water tower from Sarissa. The skips took some drilling for the side lifting points but they should look really good once painted. I'll be doing heavy wear and tear effects as skips get so bashed up.

Sunday and Monday night were spent finishing off the Static Caravan, which will be the scrapyard owner’s residence, and painting the two benches I got at Colours from Warsenal.

The Blotz order I put in last week arrived at work (always get stuff posted there) and I’ve popped them together already.

Had one casualty unfortunately. I might, if I get the chance, mention this to Blotz. It was my own fault but it could be prudent for them to edit their instructions to include a special mention about sanding down the lamp post stems prior to trying to slide the other bits on.

I have also managed to nearly finish prepping the Pulp City figures and I only have two left to do and I’m hoping that I’ll get them done tomorrow. Then they’ll all be ready for the next sunny dry day so I can undercoat them in the carpark. I won’t hold my breath given what the weather has been like lately.

With the Caravan finished I moved on to the cargo containers from the TTCombat ship and they all received a two colour dry-brushing last night to start them off.

There’s a fair bit of lettering on them which will take a while to paint and then they’ll need weathering and bashing up a bit. Shouldn’t take too long but it ain’t gonna happen tonight as the X-Wings are fuelling up for a sortie this evening. It’ll be the second nights gaming this week!
