a·fu·n·time (verb)
Verb
1. A gathering of friends from different state into one city; Downtown Chattanooga fits the bill
2. A meeting in the middle
3. Laughter, Smiles, Hugs and Giggles; Its what we do best! Be silly! Also I am unsure as to why I look like I'm cheesing so hard. ... I was really excited?
4. Food; Nothing like a little food to keep the energy up
5. Shopping; Nothing like browsing quaint little shops downtown!
6. Chocolate! :) 'Nuff Said

We had this grand plan, my friends and I. Last year we spent a lot of time traveling to see friends, hang out with friends and had a blast doing it. This year we decided to keep the trend going, and what better way than planning a meetup around valentine's day? We had a blast scouting out the city and planning our trip, but an even better time exploring it with our friends. :)

101 in 1001 - Round 3

Yes. I did just begin another 101 in 1001 project. No I haven't come close to finishing the last two, or three. I can't remember how many I've started at this time. However. This time its different, this time, my list is born from a need to accomplish these things; verses a desire to "fit in".
I'll admit, the last couple of times I started one of these projects was because 1.) everyone else was doing it 2.) It looked like fun to set un-abtainable goals. Climb Mt. Everest? Sure why not.  Lets make it a goal.

Not this time. On this list you'll see many some seemingly mundane things, but as I said this list was born out of accomplishments for this year, so don't be surprised if you see things projects I want to accomplish, specific songs I want to learn etc..

I feel so much, more motivated this year and I want to do, and see, and feel, and be as much as possible.

Bring it on 2013!

Latest Obsession

Via
I don't claim to have a green thumb, in fact, if you ask any of the plants that lived in my house of the last year, my thumb is pretty black. What can I say, plants would be so much eaiser to take care of if they were more demanding of me, that doesn't stop me from wanting more!

Besides, whats a easier way to decorate than with plants? Lots of green plants to hide the ugliness of my porch for instance...For me, plants help the outside of a house seem more inviting. There is something about a place without any plants that just seems...I don't know, cold...but that's just me. Sure my house is surrounded by trees, but ....no es lo mismo...

Knowing me, I've probably started too late in the season to actually have a nice looking "garden" but one can always hope right? I'd really like something with a lot of greenery that will stay year-round, and won't attract a lot of bees to the door I go in and of most. On the other side of my house, I'd probably do more flowering pots to hang off the side of the porch for instances.

We've already got a lot of wasps around that area anyway, what's a few more?
Lowes.com
Did I mention, I stepped on a bee Sunday? That was my first time being stung, and GOOD NEWS! I'm not allergic to their stingers!! However, who ever mentioned using Bread + Milk to get the stinger out..? THANK YOU!!

But I digress.

I'd really like to find some cool things to stick plants in. Chairs for instance or cooking pots ...or furniture...
This is probably one of those "good ideas' but never gets done things. I should add it too my 101 list that I'm currently revising....hehe.

When I mentioned this idea to my friend, she laughed. Hard. We'll just ignore her for now ok?

Potato Soup - October Recipes

One of my goals on my 101 N 1001 list, was to try at least two new recipes a month. This however, was before I knew I would be out of a stove for at least the first 8 months of my new list of goals. And when I did get a stove, I can't say that I was all that inclined to do much cooking. It takes time, effort and energy...none of which I seemed to have at the time. Now that the weather has cooled off I have had this sudden desire to do a lot of cooking.
Now I'm a very picky eater, but when I find things I like, at restaurants and such I like to see if I can find a recipe so I can make it at home. O'Charley's has THE BEST Loaded Baked Potato Soup. THE BEST. And this is from a person who does.not.like.soup. End of story.
So I've been searching online for a recipe that came close to acheiving their soup, and while I'd tried one earlier this year (it was horrible) I found another and combined it with one I used last time, and this time it was awesome! Even my family loved it! That's saying a lot people.
So without further ado, I give to you: Erin's Potato Soup as derived from here and here

2 Large Baking Potatoes
1/2 cup Butter (I used Earth Balance)
4 tbls Flour
3 cups chicken broth
1 cup shredded cheddar Cheese
Bacon bits
1 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
1 tsp basil
1 cup half-and-half

Dice unpeeled red potatoes into 1/2-inch cubes. Place in pot, cover with water and bring to a boil. Let boil for 10 minutes or until cooked.

In a separate pot, combine melted margarine and flour, mixing until smooth.
Here I added a handful of cheese and mixed in. Add salt, basil and pepper; mix well. Gradually add broth. Bring to boil; boil and stir for 2 minutes. Add the potatoes, cream, bacon bits and extra cheese; heat through but do not boil. Garnish with bacon, cheese and parsley.

It was a really simple recipe and great for those cool winter days! I'm so excited with how it came out! :)
These little things make me happy. :)

..But I was in Class!

#66. Start School - Spring 2010

Woooooo!

First day of actual campus classes is over. And a three day weekend to look forward too, just one of the few perks of working at a government/school based job.
Two class introductions are behind me, the first being my online theater class, and second Developmental Writing. I am so ready to get that class behind me, but I think it will be pretty interesting; the instructor for this class seems like someone who not only knows her stuff, but can teach it as well. Since she is the director of the English/writing program she decided today, to do an experiment without class. Most of us hadn't bought our book just yet,so she made the decision to go text book free this semester.Oooh YEAh! After that she told us though, that due to policy reasons we couldn't drop the class, unless there was some kind of emergency reason.

........Wow.

Tuesday I start General Sociology, and Wednesday Introduction to Photography.

My mind set for this semester is different than any other, one because whatever I've been doing up until this point, hasn't been working out so great.

So I think i'm going to have to break down, and follow some rules for this sememster:
  • Allotting specific amounts of time, per class, per assignment (In stead of trying to tackle all classes at once)
  • Turning off my computer & cell phones during my alloted study times (*Gasp)
  • Setting up a study area in my home that doesn't change... (I have the hardest time settling down and working on something if I'm not comfortable)
  • Eat healthier
  • Go to be earlier
  • Stay in contact with my teachers, and get over my fear of asking questions
  • Anyone else have any ideas?
  * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
I decided not to take Pompei with me today, as I still haven't heard from my job if he can come with me or not, and since I was headed straight there from school, I decided not to risk having to leave him in the vehicle..which is a HUGE "No-NO" with GDF. Plus with the weather like it is, its way too cold for a 9wo puppy!

Looking forward to him accompanying me next week. *fingers crossed*
He is such a good boy.

{My Shopping Buddy}
This weekend, I have to finish up my things with Wilderwood, and began my new project of the month... see #32 on my 101 n 1001.

1.09.2010

...But I'm working on #23 and the weekend :)

#23 - Set A Strict Schedule for Puppy

I know this isn't my dog blog, but its kind of hard when they are like the 3rd most important things in my life right now (God, Work...Dogs).

After 4 puppies you start learning some tips and tricks of a little thing called potty training.
  • Consistency. You have to do the same thing, every day the same way.
    • Go out the same door to go potty, to the same spot...always sit to eat, or to go outside, or to get a treat etc..
  • Confinement. Letting a 8wo puppy roam the entire house is ASKING for accidents.
    • Mr.Pompeii is limited to my kitchen unless I'm going to get off the computer/stop whatever I'm doing and watch him. Right now I'm using baby-gates, but have purchased an x-pen so that he can have his area, with out confining the dogs that have earned their freedoms. And so I don't have to do the crazy baby-gate-hop every time I need to go into my kitchen!

    • Crates - What would we do without them?
      • With my first 3 pups, I struggled with using the crate, just because if felt mean. Now? Not so much. This morning I woke up, took Mr. Pompeii out to potty, than put him and his food in the crate while I got dressed, and fed the other dogs. Most puppies have to potty immediately after eating, and  I knew I couldn't get him out that soon, so in the crate ya go.
On the days I'm home, my day gets to be broken down into 30 minute increments. Which for someone who has such a hard time focusing is actually a good thing. So when I get home, it'll go something like this:
    The dots represent 30 minutes
    (Hour 1)
    • Pottying, Exercise and Play time
    • Potty,Crate Games/Nap Time/Hang out by yourself time
    (Hour 2)
    HOPEFULLY SLEEPING
    • Potty, Indoor Playtime
    • Potty, X-Pen Time/Playtime
     And Hour 3 - 12 - Repeat

I know a lot of you are going OMG, that is too much work..well ok don't get a puppy than, and two you don't HAVE to do that.....but its a WHOLE lot easier later on if you do. Think of all the stuff you are saving, and the valuables that won't get chewed up.

I have actually upped that schedule to giving him an hour of free time in the room with me, and than napping however long he will in his pen, however long he will. Which as it turns out, he's put himself on the 30 minute schedule, so even if I don't pen him, he's crashed by the heater or on a bed, or under something after about 15-30 minutes of playtime.

The only thing with having him loose, is that I have a greater risk of having my carpet peed on if I don't see him as soon as he gets up.

But ok enough about the dogs. That's what my other 4 blogs are for.....

    __________________________________________________________________

    5 days till school starts.....

And its the weekend. Finally! I have survied my first week of 2010! Let's hope the rest of the year doesn't go this  "well". I think about 80% caught up on my sleep. Pompei is not screaming his way to tiredness anymore, but is still getting up in the middle of the night.

Since it started snowing on Thursday, I had to cancel all my puppy classes at the kennels today, due to the road conditions, so I got to spend the entire day at home with my puppies.I wanted to take a nap...that just didn't happen. Even still I'm planning on going to bed at ..10:30PM.

Yeah wish me luck, I'll need it.  I am a night owl if there ever was one.

Something that makes early morning classes detrimental to my grades....and so do early job schedules...though some how I rarely miss those!

But I did get the majority of my To-Do list down. (YaY Me) And Scrapbooked Pompei's first couple of days with done....

Scrapbook page of Pompei's Arrival Photos and story
    PompeisFirstSnowScrapbook Page

And I think I might be ready for next week.
Anyway I trust you all had a great weekend, I'm off to wash dishes and go to bed.

    Christmas Eve

Ok Christmas is a really bad Holiday for me. I think I spent the same amount of stuff for myself as I have for others...(But how can you resist these shoes?! And on clearance at that!!)

Partial work day for me, had to help out at the kennels, and met with my boss. After that Victoria and I finished up our Christmas Shopping, and headed home, to relax. (Whatever that is)Later on our family will get togethor for our dinner...and probably games...

Plans for tomorrow? Do absolutely nothing, open gifts, and probably go to a friends house for dinner.

    2010 Goals

There is nothing like a new year, to make you, one rethink your old year, and most of the time, want to do better.
So Although I started in June, I am officially #failing and going to redo my 101 in 1001 list. I think the biggest problem with it was, setting my sights too high, instead of starting small.
You would think as a dog trainer I would have that ingrained in my brain by now, but alas I don’t always equate what I’m doing with my dogs to myself.
Another thing is, I’ve learned a lot about myself, even since June, what things I can do, how to start new things, what not to start things like that.I hate hate, hate, hate, hate, stopping in the middle of things; so starting this over is killing me, even though it’s JUST a list.

A big change I've made, is the length of time I gave myself to do things. Instead of attempting things for a year, we’re tackling just 3-6 months at a time, which I believe will increase the likely hood of it getting done. (Have I mentioned i'm a bit ADD?)

Another #fail with the last list, was that I was grasping at straws trying to come up with 101things I wanted to accomplish..so a lot of the things I wrote down wasn't things I actually really ever had intentions of doing..this time? I've already started at least 5 of them....no make that six as of today!

Anyway I'm looking forward to tackling this!
