War Against The Machines (and Man Flu)

It seemed rather ironic to switch on my Macbook this morning to read Jim at Jim's Wargame's Bench is suffering from Man Flu as I coughed, spluttered and dosed myself up with Lemsip. This came out of left field as I felt right as rain when I went to bed last night.

However the internet made me feel a little better when I read that Warlord will be distributing Alessio Cavatore's Terminator Genisys Miniatures Game. I've wanted to get some 'War Against The Machines' gaming done for a while and have some Skynet forces already painted. Roll on the summer...

Terminator Heavy Weapons

The em-4 and Copplestone robot ("Terminator") infantry are a bit light when it comes to heavier weapons. em-4 do a couple of decent heavy machine-guns but that it about it. Enter Forlorn Hope Games who, whilst stocking em-4, spotted a gap and have produced some of their own robot infantry in a similar design to em-4's.

Whilst they are not as good as the Mark Coplestone em-4 models and they do appear a bit soft detail wise (to the extent that I was wondering if they had been drop cast) the range of five models does contain very useful missile launcher and flamethrower figures.

I painted them up using my black undercoat, drybrush Tin Bitz, drybrush Boltgun Steel over, approach and added some red eyes and that was it. Simple and effective.

They were a pleasant change from the Camerone Legionnaires, the first seven of whom are almost finished. Typically the French, even whilst on campaign, seem to have lots of fancy jacket trim etc.

Moto-Terminators

Photographing the Terminator infantry inspired me to hunt down the models I had of the Terminator motorcycles (or Moto-Terminators as they are called).

The models were toys given away with Terminator: Salvation Slurpee drinks at 7-Eleven stores in the US. I was lucky that a friend picked me up so as they never surfaced in the UK and the Playmates model of the Moto-Terminator is just too large to go with the 28mm miniatures.

To be honest the 7-Eleven models aren't the best and may be pushing it a bit scale wise but I think you can just about get away with it...

Painting was straight forward, black undercoat, Tin Bitz drybrush then Boltgun Metal over that, tyres and "Cylon" red eye picked out after.

Terminators

In the comments on the 40K Scenery post below, Jason asked where the robots are from and whilst I responded, I realised that the models themselves haven't featured on the blog. So I've dug them out and took some photos. The models are the start of a small Terminator army project that is currently in stasis (though I have a Skynet VTOL and some Terminator-bikes that featured in the last movie to repaint).

The miniatures are a mix of some old Grenadier UK Future Wars ones that are now available from em-4 Miniatures. They were originally sculpted by Mark Copplestone and consequently go nicely with...

The (un-subtlely named) Terminator Robots from Copplestone Castings. They are very similar to the em-4 ones, although the heads are more cube shaped (I prefer the em-4 skulls but these are still nice).

The "army" also incudes this female cyborg from em-4 painted up Terminator style. The third film and the TV series had female Terminators so a female endo-skeleton fits in concept wise.

Finally there is currently an original white metal Necron attached to the force as some kind of heavy weapons assault unit. I'm not sure whether he will remain attached to the Terminator project as he doesn't quite fit.
