Sunday Selections

Kim from Frogpondsrock is the host of this meme which gives us a place to post those photos that have been hiding in folders on our computers until we’ve found the reason to let them see the light of day. Sunday Selections is just that reason. I suggest you hop over to the rocking frog ponds and join in the fun.

The story of the cutest little red car ever

This cute little old-timer (a Goggomobil) needed some assistance to get going again…

Isn’t it the cutest little car ever? I love the antique wooden skis and the little suitcase on its roof.

  2. Oh Carolina, what a great series of images. It was very kind of the owner to let you photograph him. The photo in the back of the car is intriguing as well. What an interesting life the owner must have led.

I have a potter friend who is in her eighties and she only stopped skiing at age 75 and she used wooden skis.

  3. Echoing Kim. That is a really, really cute little car. I suspect that its heating is dodgy and its air conditioning is open the windows, but its cuteness makes up for it.

  4. I absolutely want that car!

I love the turn indicator lights near the roof. When my folks lived in Wiesbaden (Dad was in the Air Force, Mom came over with him and, voila, I was born there), they had a 1951 Volkswagon Beetle. Instead of turn signals, it had sticks that came out either on the left or right side depending on which way you wanted to turn. I was told the Germans called them "Machts Nichts Sticks"

  6. @ Lynda Howells:
Oh yes, a mini is a fun car too. Even without a soft top ;-) And yesterday I saw an old Fiat 500 with a small wicker (?) suitcase on the back. Too cute!

    @ Kim (frog ponds rock):
That photo in the back intrigued me too. Didn't have a chance to talk to the owner (apart from asking if I could take photos), because they were all too occupied with getting little car going again.

Did your friend on the wooden skis wear plus-fours? That would make the image complete. I love unique people like your friend who just keep doing what they love in the way they are used to. Like elderly farmers ploughing their fields with horses.

    @ Elephant's Child:
We have a Landrover Defender (it's in one of the photos), which isn't a very comfortable car and not even cute, but it has a certain je-ne-sais-quoi. I love our Bob (that's what we've named it). And Bob does have airco; you pull a handle open a small shutter under the windscreen. Far more sophisticated than opening the windows LOL

    @ Karen:
The old VW Beetles are cute too. My sister's first car was a white VW Beetle. The radio was a transistor that the passenger (often me) would keep on their lap and you had to continuously move the antenna for the best result. You had to tap the glove compartment twice before you could open it. And I can't count the times I held the handle to turn down the window on the passenger's side in my hand, without the car being attached to it ;-) But it was the best car ever! It had a soul.

    @ Baino:
Would you believe they all popped out of the boot?

    Nah, I didn't think so ;-)
The technical guys followed the little car in a more reliable green Volvo (also in one of the photos). They were all taking part in a classic car event.

  7. It's a cute little car and such a bright colour!
We had a mini years ago, hubby, me and four kids...fitting in the grocery shopping too was an interesting challenge.

  8. @ River:
Four kids?!? In a mini?!? That would be a challenge even without the grocery shopping. You must be great in packing suitcases ;-)

  9. That IS a cute car! Very fitting that the skis and suitcase were antique, because that car is a classic!!

At first I didn't take hubs serious when he said: 'it's a Goggomobil'. Thought he made that up on the spot. But it really exists and they made a couple of other really cute models too (if you follow the link in the post, you'll see). All classics!
