I am so excited to show you the 13th century walled Old Town in our little village, St. Prex. It is so ridiculously quaint and beautiful. And posh; don't forget posh. These pictures are from two different days walking through town - one was a cloudy, rainy day, and the other was sunny and bright.
The cobblestone is so beautiful.
The Fleur de Lys is the town symbol.
The clock tower over the gate into the walled village.
Window boxes spill over with beautiful, lush flowers. I heard from a friend who used to live a town over as a teenager that his parents got a citation for not planting the geraniums in their window boxes on time. Talk about pedantic!
Of course, Sam just wanted to play with the gravel on the side of the cobblestone road. Give that kid some rocks and he's happy for hours.
I love this older woman checking her mail. It amazes me to think about actually living every day in a place like this.
Where the flowers grow bigger than the window...
Sam made friends with this kitty by the lake.
These houses face the lake and have amazing views.
It's fall! The leaves are changing and it is so beautiful! We've also been really lucky to have relatively sunny and mild weather so far.
The outside of the gate...
And here is a Sunday walk on a rainy day through the Old Town.
St. Prex comes to a point at the water. Old town leads right out to this dock where people are always fishing for perch, the local specialty.
The flowers amaze me.
This pretty fountain is at the intersection of all the streets in Old Town. All the streets converge here into this street which leads straight out to the dock. It is so beautiful!
Wrought-iron lamp posts are on every building and are all beautiful and intricate. This is my favorite one.
This mosaic of hens above this window makes me happy.
More wrought-iron beauty.
The fountain (looking towards the lake)
And you can just walk right up and drink this water! It is clean and delicious.
A perfect little patio.
And a beautiful entrance. It makes me feel like I live in a fairy tale.
I loved this house name (La Fauvette, which means "The Warbler") painted on the side of a house. Don liked the mustache under the name.
Tiny door. People were short 700 years ago.
And this is the village cheese shop. It is too rich for my blood and I can get really great cheese at the grocery store but it is so cute!
