Rocky Mountain Open 2023

Over this past weekend I attended the Rocky Mountain Open. It was a 2 day event with a top 8 and redemption bracket split on Sunday. There was also 40K and AOS represented, but only Legion sold out. Woot! For this one, I doubted I would be considered for painting and I haven't been able to get any games in lately. Basically my goal was to play six games. To which I was fairly successful. Winning? Well, you will have to read on...

Wait, what? Legion Edition

Not my anything, but fun stuff all over.

So, I recently played in another Star Wars Legion tournament. This one way South at Inconceivable Games in Castle Rock. Again, my son was the driving force for this one. It was a bit of a drive and I had to pick him up, so that was farther out of my way. Plus, I was running a D&D session the next day and was trying to get things printed the night before the tournament. I failed to get it all done, but it didn't matter, because my group didn't go that way anyway. Cause that is how it works. Anyway, needless to say I was tired for this one. My goal was to get Dylan there and hoped he had fun. I had zero personal goals. Not even "win a game." But I did alright.

Well, let's get into it.

New game, so let's play in a tournament!

I recently picked up Star Wars Legion, at the urging of my son. He had played it at a miniature night at the Nerd Store in Greeley, while I played my league X-Wing game. He was also in the league, but had a bye. Afterwards, he was hooked, and we searched around looking for more Clone Troopers for him to add to his force. I had picked up a box of Imperial Storm Troopers long ago, when we were trying to play the Edge of the Empire rpg, so I tried a game with them. It seemed good, but I had no interest in Empire. However, the Shadow Collective has been recently released, so I grabbed a starter. And then another. Managed to play 4 or 5 games, one of them even at the standard 800 points. So, what was the obvious next step? A tournament at Tacticon, of course.

Another Gameless Weekend

Okay, not really. While I didn't get any full games, I did dip my toe into a couple of games my sons were playing. I have also been banned from using my Tomb Scorpions against them as well as my Necrosphinx. Yeah, that will happen.

The big news from the weekend, however, was the X Wing tournament. We had eight people. Half of whom were not regular or just semi-regular. I was running the show, hence the lack of games played. It went very well, though I didn't get a championship pack, which upset more tha a few. I am not overly worried about it, since those who seemed upset didn't win anyway.

I must add that I was supremely disappointed with the clubs efforts. With one exception, they were all out of the first place running after the first round. Luckily, Collin was unwilling to let the torch fall, and took first, and the custom trophy I made for the event.

With updated info, we will be running seasonal setup, with monthly events, quarterly tournament pack ones, and a winter main event with an actual store pack.

Okay, probably dead

I am coming out of retirement, or at least hoping to. As anyone can see it has been far to long since I last posted. I have not been idle, but hobby progress has been nill. The big game around campus is X-Wing. After owning it for almost two years, all of a sudden, everyone has it and everyone is playing. I have become a Scum and Villainy player as of late, forsaking the Empire and piss poor pilot skill for expensive tricky pilots, drugs, and money.

However, thats not what I plan to discuss today. Instead I am going to go into depth on a Malifaux tournament I rolled into a couple weeks ago. It was ran by Russ out of the Nerd Store in Greeley. I had been trying to get over there for a while, but with work stupidity, I never had enough lead time to get it off. But, I finally did. Read on to find out how I did.

Hobby Quest Tournament!!!!

I played in a Malifaux Tournament in Longmont at the Hobby Quest store. Some strong competition, and I walked out very wiped out. If you haven't been to the Hobby Quest store, I highly recommend it. They are located on 119 and 287(Ken Prat and Main) in south Longmont. It is hidden in the South West corner of the little strip mall. Hey, maybe I will get to see you there, though I don't get down there as much as I would like. Anyway, back to the tournament.

Worst Henchman Ever takes home loot!

I wasn't able to get any games in on Saturday, due to graduations, jobs, and other life problems, but I did head down on Sunday to a tournament in Longmont. If you haven't been, you should go, Hobby Quest is a great store, and Jules puts on an awesome event. But who cares about fun, lets get into how I did.

Worst Henchman Ever Takes 3rd

I did family stuff instead of getting games in on Saturday, but I did head down to a tournament in Aurora. It was a long drive, but I had a great time. And, as you can tell by the title, I took third. Out of four. Hey, don't judge! You didn't even place.

Webway from Tacticon: Epic Fail

Okay, epic fail may be a bit harsh. Last weekend, we all headed down to Tacticon for some hard fought battles for supremacy. I felt super good about my Eldar/Dark Eldar force, thought I would do decent with my X-Wing list, and was worried about my 1 preregistration Malifaux tournament. So, how did it all go down? Guess you will just have to read on...

TMI: Tournament Turn-a-round

I played in the second Tacticon PreCon Tournament on Saturday, as well as a few games of X-Wing in the after math.

TMI: Ah, the rough life of a TO

I ran a tournament on Saturday, but thats all over at the KoGT site, head there to check that out. I did manage to get in a game as a ringer against Nabors. He was talking mad shit about our last game, and so this was a bit of a grudge match. We started slow, since I was on guard duty over lunch and wanted something before we started. Even behind the clock(TJ still take FOREVER), we were able to finish our game. It went pretty brutal for him, with my council rocking Protect, Fortune, and Conceal. I also hit all the right targets in the right order. In the end, I sadly lost one of my flyers versus most of his army. I rocked a win, and his smack talk fizzled. A great game, though I think I should have had one of the other guys ringer so I could run the tournament, I felt I dropped the ball that round.

I also picked up a new game, X-Wing. I had been eyeing this one for a bit, and finally decided to snag it. I really enjoyed it. It is fun and super quick. I rocked 4 or 5 games in the evening, and headed out early. I plan on grabbing an Tie Interceptor and Advance and possibly another Tie Fighter. I want to play in the tournament for Tacticon, but that will depend on ship availability. As for the Rebel side of things(being evil at heart), I'm not sure. I am hoping I can convince somebody else to pick some of those up, but will see. HT has an A-Wing and a Y-Wing, which I may snag to balance the other side, but right now, I would rather just save my money and wait on those. I have also since made my own mat, and am started on a second. I would like to eventually sell them, but time will tell. More on X-Wing later.

TMI: Beyond Critical Mass

I had a fairly busy weekend this past holiday, starting with TTB, rolling into a Malifaux game versus Nate, then Super Dungeon on Saturday. On Sunday, I went to a tournament in Westminster, 2000 points, three rounds. More on that later.

TMI: Malifaux and a wooden spoon

IMAG0735

Another week, a few more games in. This time was International Tabletop Day, though I didn't get in any board or card games. I did play a few wargames, though. I played Malifaux and then followed that up with a Warmahordes tournament.

TMI Does It All

IMAG0721

I managed to get in several games this weekend across three different systems. I managed my first Warmachine win and some more losses, a rematch in Malifaux, and a 40K that was pretty close to tournament play in that I made some bad mistakes. Would you like to know more?

Genghiscon goes off awesomely!!

What? Awesomely is a word.

Genghiscon is done. I ran both the Warhammer 40K event, with the help of Nabors and James, and the Malifaux event. Details about the Warhammer event are on the KoGT blog. The Malifaux event saw me setting a new personal best, with TEN players. I know some out there are less than impressed, but I have been chasing a ten player event for a while. My previous record was eight, with the cons pulling six, so I am super happy.
On to the results...

Some belated 'faux

So, on July 14th I played in a tournament at Gryphon's, ran by Frank. An awesome event. Only four of us showed up, but that meant that everyone played everyone. Especially cool was the fact that we all ran different factions, so it worked out for Dead Heat as well. As a bit of a spoiler, I took second, but dropped that in favor of winning Best Painted.

State of the 'faux

So, it has been a couple weeks since I posted last, but Malifaux is still going strong. The League is still pumping and I was even able to run a tournament at Total Escape this last weekend. One of the gamers there even donated the above Mature Nephilim for prize support! Very nice, thank you Gwen.

Road to the Con 2012 - Road's End

Genghiscon Malifaux was a blast! I met some great new people, helped some improve their game, and managed to run a good tournament(at least I hope I did).

State of the 'faux: Tournament Edition

I was able to play the the Griffin Malifaux league final tournament on Saturday. I had a blast, met some new people, including a new Henchman, and got in some good games. In the end I finished fourth in the tournament, missing third by a point. Which, I would properly play the tournament system, I could have easily gotten, but I keep playing the game as a stand alone. More on that in game three.

State of the 'faux

I ran my first tournament on all the terrain I have been working on for the last couple months. It isn't important that I only needed half of the tables I have finished so far. It went well, I met a new player, talked into some broken Neberborn models for his Pandora crew, I saw a friend I haven't seen in a while, and I gave away a (unpainted) Sue model.(I know, slacking, but I have a lot to finish by Genghiscon)
