My 2014 recap and future projects

2014 was an eventful year for me both personally (I got my second daughter in Mars 31st) and hobby wise because this was the year I painted more non-GW models than I have done totally in my hobby career before. This has much to do with the release of Warzone: Resurrection which I focused on this year.

My Bauhaus force will grow even bigger in the coming year. 

No Painting Challenge? 

I didn't do an painting challenge last year, I don't think I would top 2013 anyway. But this is mainly due that I now paint models from different systems that so the Points system I used from WHFB and 40K didn't really work.

I will however do something else, that I have seen many other blogs do. Keep a tab on how many models you paint. And how many you bought over the year.

Total number of painted model 2014 is: 143

This is if I just count every piece as a single model, regardless if it's a big monster, character or just an normal infantry model. So this can vary very much depending on what models I paint up. I might do another system where a character is worth 3 models, a monster 5 etc. as they take more time to paint up. But for now this is what Iv'e achieved. Less than expected I must say but there are many models in there where I took a lot of time to paint, like Throgg, the Gyrocopter etc. So I'm happy with the result non the less and I think I can beat this quite easily this coming year.

Future Projects

I must try to do one project at a time and get that finished and then move on to the next one, easier said than done for me though.

My main focus in 2015 will still be Warzone: Resurrection. But as I get more and more models finished I hope I can get in more projects for different game systems. I have a lot of almost finished units for both my Empire and WoC armies that I want to get completed. I also want to paint up some Deadzone this year,

Painting Challenge 2013 Final Results

I haven't been posting any Painting Challenge updates the last three months so before I did the calculations I didn't know if I actually made it or not. In the last update I wrote that I needed at least 685 Pts to come up the same result as last year and that I had three months to do it. Then I felt pretty confident to achieve this but before I made the final calculations I was really unsure, it would be close.

So on to the last months of painting then:

Comment: Quite a nice month, the beast took a loot of time to paint but netted me some needed points as well.

November

Comment: Not as a good month points wise but I finished a lot of models and that is needed as well.

Comment: I didn't remember I painted that much in Dec but apparently I did, and even if maths isn't my strong subject by any means It does look like I made past 2012:s painting goal.

2012: 3390 Pts and 189 models painted 

2013: 3568 Pts and 120 models painted 

Comment: So as you can see I beat my self from 2012 and painted more Pts wise but not model wise. That is to be expected though as I painted a lot more big models last year (Daemon Prince, BSB, Chariots etc.) And in the end I'm really happy with the turn out. My WoC is now looking like an proper army but I will continue painting a lot for that army in 2014 as well so expect more to come for them.

Also painted some more Empire models but I need to paint up some more the coming year. I have some unfinished units like the Flagellants, Knights and Greatswords I want to finish and some other models like the Hurricanum.

Not much for other systems this year, some 40k and I may paint up some more 40k this year but my 40k have all but disappeared right now and I need to find it again to get up some serious painting again. And this may be hard as my Warzone will finally arrive soon (hopefully) and they are high on the priority list to do, we also have Deadzone which I want to paint as well.

As you can see I have a lot to do the coming year as well. And I will try to beat my self yet again but I also want to have some kind of a plan for each army on what I want to finish up and in what order so we have to wait and see what format the Challenge will be in but it will be there I promise.

1. I don't think I could have painted this better with my current skills, I'm really happy with how it turned out and is therefore my number one.

2. Close for the first place, really like the model and how the free hand banner turned out.

3. Last model finished this year and one of my favourites. I like all the different colours and the fact that it's quite havily converted using a lot of different bits.

Painting Challenge: August - September

I have missed to do post about this the past months. Mostly because I have been busy and the little spare time I have had I wanted to use on painting as much as I could. So did I get anything done these months? Check it out further down.

Comment: I finally managed to finish up the Gorebeast Chariot, it felt like it took forever to paint that model up. I also painted up some more Nurgle Warriors and which makes that unit almost complete, just need three more warriors there. A quite productive month Pts wise as well so I'm happy with this what I achieved in August.

Comment: A even better month Points wise and for being me I painted up the Skullchrushers quite fast when I finally got around and started to paint them. These are probably my my favourites for this period and  I'm really happy with how they turned out. Also finished some Empire models and even Halflings. Awesome model, I may need to some more Highlights on them but other than that I'm happy with how they turned out as well.

So a great month both model wise and points wise, that I finished the BSB this month makes a lot but normally he is even worth more points than that (around 250 Pts). I also finished some models I wanted to finish for a long time like the BSB and the Archers. So I'm really happt with this months turnout and hope I get as many points in August, I doubt it though.

Not many minis painted and not many point gained, a bad month but there always are, are many times you have painted a lot more but not finished much, this is the case this month I hope ^^

So not much better this time, well I went with the middle road for the Shadow Wizard as an lvl 2 as that's probably the lvl I wanna use him as, or as a Wizard Lord. Pretty much the same as the month before though with much work done but not much completed, hopefully this will show in the next update in the Painting Challange.

Late as usual but you know the drill by now. Here's what I painted in April.

1 Chimera 275 Pts (This one is upgraded with both Regen and Breath wpn, because it will pretty much always be fielded that way)

2 Ducal Militia 17 each = 34 Pts (in the Warzone 2 ed book If I recall it correctly)

Not much it seems but that Chimera eats up some points, so not that bad actually. Next month won't turn out as good though. But we will see by the end of the month (or next month :P). I will do some more Empire work again trying to paint up my Hurricanum also have an urge to paint up an Demigryph Knight in Black Rose colours and just need build another one up first. I have some more stuff to complete with my WoC as well, right now I will probably focus on my three Skullcrushers, one Gorebeast Chariot and my BSB on monstrous mount.

Painting Challenge 2013: Mars

I continue the tradition of making these late it seems. But as they say, better late than never. So what happened last month then, well firstly I made a lot of posts regarding the Warzone KS and that made a little less time for the ordinary Wh40k and WHFB updates. This will change a little now when the KS has ended and we don't get as much updates from Prodos at the moment. 

But enough of that, I actually got some painting done as well in Mars and below are the stuff I finished painting and therefore counts for the Painting Challenge.

Empire

5 Outriders (Repainted) w. Musican 115 Pts

Warriors of Chaos

1 Daemon Prince 235 + 40 for the wings so 275 Pts (will most often be a lot more though)

1 Warriors of Chaos Tzeentch Unit filler 34 Pts (Counts as two Tz Warriors with shields)

Total:  424 Pts

Not as good as Jan but close and to be fair the Daemon Prince will almost always be more points than this, but the challenge is to have the units/heroes without equipment and magic items if they aren't modelled as a something that pretty much requires it, like Tz Warriors, the wings on the DP etc. Anyhow, I think next month will be even better :)

Yeah quite late for the Feb evaluation I know but batter late than never. Well, I painted quite a lot last month but not much got finished though, especially not when it came to points. So these where the miniatures that I finished last month.

Not much points painted this month as you can see, the biggest reason for this is that I also started to paint up quite a lot of new miniatures which I wasn't able to finish last month, like the Daemon Prince, ten more Chaos Warriors, along with some more stuff. So expect a lot of more points painted this month instead :).

2013 Painting Challange - January

So I promised to do this post at the end of each month to see what I have accomplished during that month and If I'm holding to the goal of about 282,5 Pts each month. A little late this month I know but better late than never. So what's the result then?

So quite a lot of pts painted this month even if I cheated a little with easer models which already where mostly painted. But they actually required quite a lot of paint though, especially the Rhino.

So what's up for for Feb, some models are already finished but I have even more WIP:s on the workstation that I think I will finish up this month. I have also changed focus and that's first to finish up the Empire units I already have started to paint and then a lot of  WoC, as I will get some new models soon. In the meantime I have quite a lot of WoC models already to paint like the Skullchrushers, Warhounds and Warriors. Here's a WIP of my Lord on Juggernaught, well the Jugger at least.

Painting Challenge: Will I beat myself next year?

To do another thing to keep the motivation up I will challange myself to paint more stuff Points wise than this year. So here's just some calculations about the stuff I have painted this year so I know what numbers I need to beat next year. It was more than I expected really even if the numbers don't always do the painting time justice, painting two cannons takes much less time to paint than seventeen Greatswords but is worth more points for example. But it's quite fun anyhow to see how many points it is in the end and how much points I need to paint each day to beat it. So see this as an kind of New Years resolution, I will paint more than 3390 Pts next year and I will not cheat ;D

All in all I have painted 3390 pts this year across both systems and including the stuff I repainted as well. Quite good in my opinion at least for being me who aren't the fastest painter in the world, spread across all days in a year this brings us to a number of 3390/365 = ~9,3 Pts a day and 282,5 Pts a month.
