25mm Old Glory - (ACW) Victorian Gentleman

Another from CMON from April of 2005 with the caption: "This fellow comes from the ACW personality pack. He's based, however, to be a civvie in my Gothic Horror/Victorian London game I'm still putting together. While looking at period photos I saw that straw hats were fairly common though I doubt they were as course as this one is."

25mm Eureka Miniatures - Otto Von Tannenbaum with Sidekicks

Another former "exclusive" from CoolMiniorNot

The bottom shot was accompanied by the following caption:

"Von Tannenbaum had had just enough. He would not take the blame for this and resented his proud Prussian heritage being besmirched by the likes of that schwein from the Home Office. Though he secretly delighted at each new travesty that afflicted London and it's inhabitants, a growing unease was made manifest behind his outwardly cool contenance. He argued with great skill that it could only be the French or even the Americans but it was certainly not the peoples of the Reichland. In any event, if the London police were incapable of protecting the Prussian embassy than he would have no choice but to call in the Prussian troops waiting just off shore. He could not allow zombies, vampires and whatever else to jeopardize his true mission and if it meant tripling the guard then that is what he would do. Summoning Hauptmans Lulatsch and Schraat he bid his leave. Things were going to get worse before they got better and he had what looked like a siege to prepare for.

More neat figures from Eureka's Pax Limpop range. Here they are doing service in my Gothic Horror/Victorian London game I'm still working on."

25/28mm Eureka Miniatures - Victorian - Anarchist Nannys

These were posted on CoolMiniOrNot.com in in the early 2000s and are for my ongoing, never-ending Victorian London project. I post them here for the sake of completeness and in the unlikely event CMON ever disappears.

This was captioned then, "While promising a delicious romp on one hand she is bound to surprise her cad of an employer on the other! Yikes!"

Anarchist Nanny #2

Number 2 had this accompanying caption:

"Mary could not have believed Alice's hysterical outbursts had she not seen for herself the strange eyes peering through the nursery window on the previous evening. And the subsequent disappearance of the other servants unnerved her further and sent her outside for air at the first sign of the morning light.
As was her habit, she passed through the gate of the quiet cemetery and pushed the pram amongst the crumbling marble tombs. It was then she noticed the peculiar footprints that led towards an open grave and then suddenly disappeared. A chill came over her and she quickly turned back towards the carriage. It's contents were quiet and still and she reached down into it.
'Now what a thing to find,' thought Mary, not at first noticing that the baby Mantlebray was missing."

Anarchist Nanny #3

She had this as a caption: "To Alice, the protection of her charges were of paramount concern, and deep down she knew that Lord Montlebray would approve had he known of the growing threat. But Van Helsing had warned her not to move without him, yet she had to do something, and while it was still light. With these thoughts heavy in her mind, she went to the small cemetery across from the churchyard and in the hopes of destroying them in their tombs, set about her task."

28mm Ral Partha Crucible - Boogey Men

These have been online for a long time (June 2004) exclusively at www.coolminiornot.com but they really belong here.

28mm Empress Miniatures, Father Defending Homestead

The Mrs. and the children are in Russia ca 1812 (see link) cast as camp followers. Father didn't quite fit in there so he remains over 30 years in the future in London organizing a defense against God knows what.

25mm Eureka Miniatures, Formal Lord Shaftsbury with Brandy

Eureka has a number of figures that are off the books and generally oop. This is one I cannot find on their site and was painted in the mid-'00s.

He's supposed to be standing on carpeting but not sure that's obvious here. I probably should custom cut some red felt for this.

Eyes a bit wonky, but otherwise ok.

28mm Empress Miniatures, New Zealand Wars, Colonial Militia Skirmishing

More figures repurposed for Victorian Horror/Sci Fi games.

They need another blast of dull cote.

I've been monkeying around with the light box - still get weird results. It may very well be time to replace the camera.

Ah! Noticed there is a felt side as well as this more reflective side. I'll switch that for next time.

25mm Soldiers & Swords Games - Castle Falkenstein - Ladies and a High Fayrie

I've dragooned these for Victorian Horror but there is very little Victorian about them at all. The gal in purple (the High Fayrie) is not, I understand, part of this Ladies set but I bought them loose that way and so they shall remain.

Those are regular ol' slotta bases but my new practice is to extend the stone work halfway down the side to, by illusion, reduce the height of them.

So many folds in these dresses - I'm glad this is a trend in decline.
Here I've added the Falkenstein Gentlemen with whom these gals are associated. The change in basing style is more apparent here.
The ladies, too, have been on the workbench for a few years now. I need to revise my dry brushing hair technique - way too subtle after the sealants have been applied.

25mm Crusader Miniatures - Foreigners - Baron Otto, Alphonse, & Mad Jock

People ask how long it takes me to paint these: over two years in this case because I never paint anything from beginning to end but rather work on this or that as I go along. My paint table has a large mix of odds and ends - over a hundred figures of various ranges and sizes. This is a boredom prevention measure.

These are more characters for my Victorian Horror thing. Crusader only does a handful of useable figure for this project which have been re-purposed from their tiny Wild West range.
Nice clean sculpts - Crusader has a lot of inspired miniatures - especially their Pirates.

28mm Eureka Miniatures Victorian Gentlemen & Victorian Ladies

These were done in 2005 and posted on CMON, but I wanted to flesh out the Victorian part of this blog. I've grouped them into logical pairs - the first at left is at a ball of some kind, the pair at right out in a wintry night.
Two pairs of menaced couples ...
I loved painting these up - nice solid details, flash free, great character.
For the ladies' dresses I referred to a Dover clip art book on Victorian fashion for inspiration.

25mm Wargames Foundry - Old West Townsfolk - Victorian Gents

I finished these in April of 2005 and posted them on CMON, but now that I have my own blog I thought I may as well host them here - sorry for the blanched pics.
There are so many good Victorian figures out there now - it's truly a Golden Age for Victorian gaming.

Close up of the more well-to-do pair Joe Blessinton (L) and Max Shelby (R).
Cooper Creel (L) and Brent Monroe (R).

All of these are from the Old West range but I've re-purposed them for London. That's Raggedy Jack there on the right who looks most out of place but Major Edwards, at left, looks right at home.

Same body, different heads. I especially like the one on the right who is called Kirby Heartsill, in black at left is Digory Kent.

25mm Soldiers & Swords Games - Castle Falkenstein - Gentlemen

There's a 4 figure set of the Ladies in varying degrees of readiness - but first, the gents! Who's that douchey guy on the Kardashians? The middle guy reminds me of him.

More shots of my cartoony bases - one of the only things I paint with an eye towards long distance viewing, as if on the table top.

There's actually less folds on the coat at center but I added one just with paint.
It's often fun to see a bigger context to the photographin'. Helps one appreciate the scale a bit too.

25mm Ral Partha Frantisek Markov

I s'pose he could be Mr. Hyde but that's not quite right. Here's the official history: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frantisek_Markov
Extra bold on the red silk lining. Micron Pen eyes ...

Base detail - again this is a motif I've committed to on over a hundred figures so far ...

Egads! Glossy bits remain! And for other reasons I hate the back shot - all those folds is just overkill and I did just a middling job on it.

I have a thing for these old school miniatures  ...
