25mm Old Glory African Mud & Grass Huts

These will appear in the Carribbean instead of Africa for now, though I do have a mess of Darkest Africa stuff I've never even primed.
Old Glory Voodoo Warriors and a West Wind Gothic Horror guy at right.
West Wind Gothic Horror figure is from the"Island of Dr Mereaux - The Doctor's Assistants"pack.

Yes, yet another diversion from Napoleonics. These had been taking up space in my prep area and I didn't really have a good place to put them. Besides, I like the quick high of a relatively quick dry brush job and Bob's your uncle.

Caribbean Horror - Voodoo Wars!: The Forces of Darkness

Baron Savoodie launches the attack! This is West Wind's Baron Savoodie and Priestesses, thirty OG Voodoo Warriors, Mama Magumbi's two Voodoo Warriors, and the four nameless Dr. Meraux's Assistants.

Madam Magumbi's henchmen also got the face paint treatment. That's one in the white shorts ...

And the other is in the white shirt, gray pants at front. the West Wind stuff is significantly bigger than the OG stuff but still all harmonizes nicely.
The Doctor's party guests were murdered some time ago, but they still can be of use to Mama Magumbi!

This is West Wind's Mama Magumbi, ten West Wind Zombies, and ten zombies from Brigade Games.

Five of the Brigade Games zombies are undead type and the other five are more classic mind-controlled zombie servants seen at right. Better pictures of all of these already exist on this blog but wanted to get it all in one place.

25mm - Old Glory - Voodoo Warriors

Finally! All the figures for this game are done - oh, I may be missing the West Wind Steamer Crew I may pick up later but for now I'm done.

Normally, I would do more blending and layering on the skin but I wanted to try the Foundry Dark African Flesh Triad straight out of the bottle.

Still have some buildings and more jungle terrain to finish and this game is done and playable. They were designed for pirates but having reread Call of Cthulhu, they could easily be Louisiana Cthulhu cult worshipers. This whole game could be dressed in Lovecraftian touches without too much trouble.

I also thought I'd do more skeleton paint on some figs but chickened out and opted to keep them simple.

These could potentially be "leader figures" so I tried to so some in bright Caribbean colors. These are actually from Old Glory's really nice Pirate range: http://www.oldgloryminiatures.com/products.asp?cat=208&pg=3

I did the whole pack of 30 but distributed as above for casualty removal.

28mm West Wind - Gothic Horror - Caribbean Police

This wraps up the last of the good guys. The Police will join Cooper, the doctor and their teams to take about Baron Savoodie once and for all.

I couldn't find much on what would be a Colonial Police uniform. Saw plenty of all-khaki suits, but I still wanted a dark blue in there so split the difference.
The Sergeant here is actually a spare figure from the German Sea Battalion in Old Glory's wonderful Boxer Rebellion Range.

Thanks for looking! Just the voodoo warriors left to do and this project is done for troops. Still have have some jungle pieces and huts to put together and paint though half of that is done already. Stay tuned!

28mm West Wind - Gothic Horror - Cooper & Team

This is the last of the character packs for this Caribbean Zombie game. The rules governing these characters and the campaign can be found in the Gothic Horror - Vampire Wars - Realms of Terror Vol. 2
I pretty much knew where I was going to go with Cooper (trying that outline/edging method that West Wind did with some of their EotD range). And Father Dupont reminded me of the preacher in Poltergeist II. As for Simon and Marcus, I was actually trying a method intended for Napoleonic French blue. Marcus shows the failed way - too purple. But I may just have it with Simon. I like having oddball figures around to test schemes on before I do the serious stuff.
Next up Colonial Police and the forces of light are completed!

28mm West Wind - Gothic Horror - Lady Doctor & Staff

These are from West Wind's small but wonderful Caribbean themed Zombie range.
According to the GH: VW: Realms of Terror supplement many of the figures are named. Not all, but I've added a few (L to R - italics are the names in the book - otherwise I picked it):
Dr. Marielle (Serpent & the Rainbow), Alexis (Fr. "helper"), George, Nurse Desmarais ("of the swamp")
  • George's skin is unmodified, straight from the three-color Foundry set, African Flesh.
  • The dirt is VGC Earth then 50:50 VGC Earth + VGC Khaki then VGC Khaki on it's own.
  •  Swamp Tufts from Army Painter.
I knew the black pants here were going to be problematic but I just couldn't think of how to handle these long mostly unwrinkled legs. I probably shouldn't have highlighted it at all except for the behind-the knee creases.
The last pack of heroes for this game are nearly finished then it's on to the police and then voodoo warriors.

Thanks for looking! Questions and comments are welcome!

28mm West Wind - Gothic Horror - Amazonian Explorers

Here's four of the heroes to be pitted against the Voodoo uprising.

According to the GH: VW supplement Realms of Terror, these figures all have names: (L to R):
Dr. Delasandro, Miss Carpenter, Mike McBrice and Dr. Chatterwick

These are from the Piranha Men of the Amazon range - a game I have no interest in doing at all but the figures are still quite useful. I've been on the fence about the Steamer Crew but to date have not even purchased them.
Eight more good guys almost finished then a squad of Colonial Police and this force is finished.

28mm Brigade Games Haitian Zombies l & II

Haitian Zombies I (5) - Front - This particular pack is un-pictured at Brigade for some reason. Most of them have large wounds sculpted on somewhere so I made these five risen dead, flesh eater types.
Haitian Zombies I - (5) - Rear

Haitian Zombies II (5) - Front - These, however, had basically intact garments and I made all but the splint leg guy, simply under the spell/command of Mama Magombi. No apparent wounds, no rent garments. I'd love to get scluptor's notes on these. Can't seem to find info on these capes hoods online anywhere? Total fabrication (pun intended)? Some old movie? [Edit 3/15/18 - I watched White Zombie and the servants seemed awful familiar - see below for more.]
Haitian Zombies II (5) - Rear - There is a story about a fractured leg in Haitian Voudoo lore but it belonged to a woman and it was also proof that the "zombie" under investigation, who did not have a game leg,  could not be the same woman.. Yet, second from left here, is a zombie with a bandaged and splint arrangement on the left leg. Where does this come from? Old movie again?
[Edit 3/15/18 From White Zombie - see below.]
Zombies!
Yes.
They are my servants.
Did you think we could do it alone?
In their lifetime they were my enemies.
Ledot, the witch doctor. Once my master. Secrets I tortured out of him.
Von Gelder, the swine. Swollen with riches. He fought against my spells until the last.
In him I have a struggling type. His Excellence, Richard. Once minister of the interior.
Scarpia, Brigand Chief.
Marcquis, Captain of Gendarmerie.
And this... this is Chauvin. The high executioner, who almost executed me!
I took them just as we will take this one. But what if they regain their souls?
They would tear me to pieces. But that, my friend, shall never be.
Chauvin seen wearing a hood in other parts of the movie. He also has the wooden splint on his leg.

Two of the ten had Caucasian features so I painted them accordingly.
All the risen dead zombies in one shot. The will join the European styled ones seen here.
For giggles here's the mind slave zombies with West Wind's Madam Magombi. The skin  on these was straight out of the bottle Foundry's "African Flesh" triad. No fourth highlight on those at all.

West Wind's Baron Savoodie and his minions.
Next up is some West Wind heroes to oppose all this then some quantities of Old Glory Voodoo Warriors from their Pirate range. Colonial Police in there somewhere too - all are in varying levels of completion on the painting table.

25mm West Wind Zombies

These could be used for any period but they are with the Voodoo style pieces from West Wind.
They were completed quite a few years ago and were to round a general Zombie horde but I want to separate them for purposes of this Voodoo thing.

I used an olive drab base and then built up with Citadel Rotting Flesh or it's equivalent. Not completely sold on this arrangement but I was experimenting quite a lot with various zombie flesh recipes at the time.

Such amiable hosts .. (kinda weird poses but I like to have a few of this kind of thing around.

25mm West Wind - Gothic Horror - Island of Dr Mereaux - The Doctor's Assistants

I won't actually game The Island of Dr. Mereaux but these will instead be repurposed for Caribbean slavers for the Haitian Zombie/Occult thing I have in mind. Other entries in this series are here: http://flashman14.blogspot.com/search/label/Caribbean

Slight miscasts on the whips but I was lazy when I cleaned these up and didn't have a good solution at the time. I think that brushable Green Stuff from Citadel would do the trick.

I have most of the explorer types from West Wind in this range but this will be the only pack of heavies for this game. It's not too late, I probably should add some unshaven scruff - especially to this one to give him a bit more malice.
Tufts are "Swamp" Tufts from Army Painter.

This guy was just "Mr. Brown" to me.
If I ever get good at tattoos his big biceps are screaming for a pair of anchors.

25mm Westwind Baron Savoodie & Priestesses

There should be teeth painted in on the skull paint but the mouth is in such an arc that I couldn't accommodate it. So now he looks a bit like a mime!
Weird experiment with a red, and an unsatisfying motif for the Baron himself. Not quite pulled together. The sculpt has undead qualities - exposed bones and I believe organs that I painted over as cloth to greater or lesser effect. (When it's unclear what is actually going on there I feel entitled to take liberties.) The Caribbean feel though I felt worked - even the eye shadow!

Snakes, snakes, how do to the snakes? Black I thought would be dull, and a black mamba just has a black mouth interior but is otherwise grey. Green was a possibility but would clash with the already painted turquoise accents. So coral won out in the end which just adds to the festivity of it all.

"Swamp" Tufts from Army Painter

I think I may go back and hand paint a layer of satin over the Dull Cote on the snakes.

The teeth are tucked in on the snake at left so that's a pink tongue you're seeing there.
