AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes

AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

Private Balcony

This sign at Frankston for the Kon Thai Restaurant seems to be set like a framed, balconied window.
Small but eye catching above the shop front.
This was the first Thai restaurant - 1989 - on the Mornington Peninsula.

Pink Ladies Kiosk

The Pink Ladies (the women are dressed in palest pink) was founded as an auxiliary in 1941 to provide services for patients and visitors and to raise funds for Frankston Hospital on the Mornington Peninsula.
The first president, Edna Vincent, received an MBE in 1964.
She was president for an amazing 58years until she died in 1999.
These older women are a smiling delight, a ray of happiness in the kiosk near the entrance of Frankston Hospital.
There are now nearly 100 volunteers.
There is also a Pink Ladies group, further south on the peninsula, at Rosebud Hospital.
It began in 1988 and has 53 members.
The president there, Claire Duffus, received a Health Volunteer Award in 2009 for initiating an Op Shop at the hospital.

By Children for Children

In a section of the George Pentland Botanic Gardens at Frankston is this sign.
(The sign for the gardens is HERE on my MP Daily post today!)

Peace in a garden
For children of the future
Sense of living hope

Frankston Channel

Part of the Frankston beach boating channel system leading out to Port Phillip Bay, Mornington Peninsula.
At the time of this photo, it was January 2012, and the sandcastle display - in the background ~ was the happening foreshore event.

The Dog Sign

A sign on the Frankston foreshore, Mornington Peninsula.
The leashed message of the sign is quite familiar on my peninsula, but this is the only dog sign displaying a "specific time frame" message in a dog shape?
Perhaps the reason is because it is not far from a children's playground?
(And the time frame represents the summer holidays.)

Dogs so love the beach
But they share it with humans
Summer restrictions
