LOST GOAT Equator 1999

Discogs

AllMusic Review by Alex Henderson

Although Lost Goat hasn't escaped the influence of '90s alternative rock, no discussion of Equator would be adequate without mentioning the trio's '70s and '80s influences. Lead singer/bassist Erica has a voice that's somewhere between King Diamond and Geddy Lee of Rush, and the writing on this competent, if uneven, CD makes one think of Diamond and other gothic metallers such as Queensrÿche. Like Queensrÿche, Savatage, and Rush, Goat doesn't try to pull listeners in immediately with catchy, easy-to-digest hooks and riffs -- moody items like "Hell in Ruin," "Downbound Train" (not to be confused with the Bruce Springsteen song) and "White Dog/Purple Pussy" are fairly involved and require several listens to be fully absorbed. Although not a gem, this decent CD indicated that Goat had some potential and was worth keeping an eye on.
