A cidade grande a engolira.
Somos apenas TODOS diferentes!
PS Tá explicada agora a minha cara de má??

I was 14 years old, living in Taubaté , a small city in Brazil and I was part of the unpopular group of kids at school. The "cool kids" would not give us the time of the day. And unfortunately for me, they also found me different, so they made fun of me by the bucket full.
They called me "pinoe" "yo yo cream" all sorts of names, as these kids had a huge fascination for my name and found endless ways to piss me off because of it.
At that time someone decided I walked like a giraffe (I did not want to have tired, curved shoulders, so I threw them back as much as I could. I give them that, it was probably a bit weird) ...
So the kids called me giraffe!
I was sad, of course, but pretended not to care. I put on this intellectual persona and pretended to be better than anyone else. I just acted like I was far superior, and nothing they did could affect me.
What I really wanted, like every 14 year old kid, was to be accepted, to be respected. That would not happen any time soon, so I just continued playing my part.
Time passed, I went to university in Campinas. There, I met many people who studied with me in other places.
One day I was with a bunch of people, when I saw one of the girls who used to make fun of me at school in Taubaté.
She was alone, she seemed lost.I went to talk to her. She seemed not to believe it was me, there with the "cool people".
The large city swallowed her. There, in the middle of a million strangers she felt scared and small.
I was sorry for her, so I introduced her to my friends, hoping she could findherself some space to shine in the new environment. I did not want her to feel lost because she was in a new and unfamiliar place, like I felt so many times.
Just now I remembered people sometimes say I think I am better than others.Today, writing this post, I figured out I may look that way because I had to create this new persona to protect myself from bullies, from verbal attacks and from being hurt. I do not think better than anyone, but I know very well that I'm not worse than anyone either. We're just ALL different!
