The procession

OK. Third month of the OWAC III, and first weeks of confinement, not as helpful as expected to work on Pieter the Pious and his worshipers. Anyway, I've been able to complete my third unit: a procession of pilgrims led by Bishop Maximus.

Most of the miniatures used here come from the Citadel C03 Clerics series, mainly - if not exclusively ? - designed by Bob Naismith, plus a few models designed by Aly Morrison, and one C46 pilgrim model designed by Trish Carden.

Regarding the conversions, I've tried to emphasize the religious aspect of my pilgrims by adding candles wherever I could. For "Candle head", I had in mind the Dark Souls III Grand Archives Scholar (I'm still trying to find a model suitable for the "candelar sword")

Dark Souls III Grand Archives Scolar

For the standard bearer, I have trimmed down all the cabalistic signs on the robe of the wizard, replaced the staff by a brass rod, glued the flag initially held by Helldorado's Alvaro Echevarria model and topped by a set of plastic candles from the Luminark of Hysh box.

As for the cleric of the BBD1 Dungeon Adventurers set, I have restored the original equipment by replacing the ankh of my variant by a greenstuff cross.

For Cleric Saint Ogg, I've simply replaced the original head by the hood of a Necromunda Cawdor ganger to give him a more sinister look:

Regarding the painting, I've tried to apply the same palette on every model:
  • Robes based with a mix of VMC Beige and VMC Chocolate Brown, darkened with Chocolate Brown and VMC Dark Sea Blue and highligthed with Beige and VGC Dead Flesh,
  • Hoods based with VGC Heavy Charcoil, darkened with pure black and highlighted by adding VGC Bone White to the base,
  • Candles based with GW Rakarth Flesh, then TMP Strong Tone, then VMC Sky Grey and finally VMC Ivory,
  • NMM using a mix Dark Sea Blue and VMC Mahogany Brown, then P3 Greatcoat Grey, then VMC Sky Blue and white.

BC1 (Adventurers Starter Set) - Devout Cleric
C03 - Ancient Word
C03 - Ebonite

Last but not least, the bishop!

Talisman and Marauder swordsmen

Same sculptor, same pose, two swordsmen designed by Aly Morrison, the former for Talisman game around 1985, the second for the Marauder Miniatures range around 1988 (a member of the command group MM61).

You may have noticed a slight change in the colours between the two models: I've changed my camera, the new one gives brighter tones (see below).

Bergjaegers #8: the twin brothers

The hornblower is a citizen (CZ9) from the Marauder MM62 range, the short one is the Leprechaun from the Talisman range. Quite fun to paint, even if I could have spent more time on some parts...

Bergjaeger #4: the Woodsman

Another Aly Morrison's design, this time for Talisman: the Woodsman. The bow and the arrows are additions coming from plastic sprues (Mordheim and Perry Miniatures). Rather fun to paint :)

The scout, the Tilean, and the Mercenary

The Armsbrustschutzen are a mandatory component of an Empire army in the 3rd Ed. Warhammer Armies book... not so easy, when you consider building a force with Marauder Miniatures only. However, as you may know, I've recently solved this issue by extending the initial concept to "anything designed by Aly (and sometimes Trish) Morrison in the eighties".

For this regiment, I had no precise idea in mind for the color scheme: I guess the first painted guy defined the palette for the following ones: black, red and white. So, let's start with the scout of the Citadel Talisman range:

The second painted model is the Tilean Crossbowman from the Citadel F2 Fighter range.

The third one is the Mercenary Crossbowman (same range):

And that's it for the moment!

The Tanners' Guild Master and his shield bearer

This merchant model is not a Marauder Miniature, but since it was sculpted by Aly Morrison (for Talisman), let's say it's acceptable for my now "almost Marauder-only" Empire army. The shield bearer is a  converted MM64 halfling (HL3): right hand re-sculpted to hold the shield instead of the original flail.

Regarding the coat of arms of the Tanners' guild, I have opted for a sheep holding a spear with the militia's colors (red and white), inspired by the Lamb of God used by the wool merchants guild in Florence, or by the tanners' corporation of Grasse (France).

Not my brightest idea as, believe me or not, it's way easier to paint a two-headed eagle than an ordinary sheep...  On top of that, the lamb is probably too big for the shield, but when I realised it, I was too tired of painting again and again the face of this damn' sheep to re-start from zero.

So, for the moment, the merchant has been glued into place, and the halfling is simply put on the base: I'll see in the coming weeks if I find courage to paint a new shield for the Tanners' Guild.
