Infamy Bust Uncle John
I wanted a darker vibe with this miniature so I used the notes written by Grant Morrison in the back of Arkham Asylum concerning the Mad Hatter. I painted the irises in different colours with a purple undertone to the flesh, as if the blood weren't quite a healthy red. The more I painted it the more it resembled Arsene Wenger! But with a parrot and a capuchin!
Roboute Guilliman
They shall be pure of heart and strong of body, untainted by doubt and unsullied by self-aggrandisement. They will be bright stars on the firmament of battle, Angels of Death whose shining wings bring swift annihilation to the enemies of Man. So it shall be for a thousand times for a thousand years, unto the very end of eternity and the extinction of mortal flesh.

When I think of the silhouette of a Horus Heresy force there are certain models that stand out. The Contemptor pattern dreadnought, the wonderful Praetor set, cataphractii terminators, the sicaran and, of course, the Spartan.
The Spartan has been a hallmark of Heresy gaming since the beginning. A big chunk of resin that was nigh impossible to kill on the tabletop. It has been the ferry for the great and the good, Primarchs, Deathstars and even the humble Tactical squad. I knew I needed one in my collection, however, I quickly came to realise that this model didn't really suit my playstyle with the Blood Angels. The Day of Revelations does favour more hard-hitting, drop assault units, so this project has kept being delayed while I filled up on assault marines, Dreadclaws and Dreadnoughts. I've finally managed to complete this, replete with Black marble, chased with the gold of the Blood Angel decal sheet.
If you would like to learn how to paint the black marble like this, there is a short video up on the patreon, as well as a legion focus on how I paint the Blood Angel red.
Enjoy!

This is the project I worked on over the Christmas break. I knew unless I painted it then, I wouldn't have another long stretch off my work load until next year. The inspiration for this piece came from Master of Mankind, an offhand comment by the Bringer of Sorrows to Arkan Land describes Baal's culture resembling that of the Holy Roman Empire. Little details like this provide a context to explore the artwork and develop pieces like this.
Those large open space on the carapace cried out for some form of freehand and mapping it proved to be troublesome. Lots of time was spent just getting the proportions right to begin the paint work.
Enjoy the weekender guys! See you there.

The Cataphractii Pattern was amongst the first Terminator armour issued, and suits of this type were even more heavily protected than their contemporaries. Slab-like ceramite pauldrons housed additional shield generators, although this formidable protection came at the cost of the wearer’s speed, and the trade between agility and survivability meant that this pattern was beginning to decline among some Legions at the outbreak of the Heresy.
