Otherworld Miniatures Judge's Guild

Another quick post to show a few more figures from Otherworld Miniatures Judge's Guild range that I painted recently. Some nice characterful pieces here. My favourite has to be the old paladin Holomir.

Holomir Goldheart and Cornelius.

Rufo the Ugly and Merth the Sheriff.

Otherworld Miniatures Undead

Another quick post to show a few new undead from Otherworld Miniatures for their Judge's Guild Dark Tower range. A liche and some skellies. A nice change to paint some undead (itching to paint my own skellies too!) and a slightly different, darker bone colour used on these.

All sorts of stuff...

It's another of those posts where I've left it a bit long since my last one. So here we are with another mish mash of random models that most Facebook followers will have likely already seen. Going back a few weeks I painted a number of different fantasy adventurer types from various manufacturers. Good fun actually to have that bit of variety. In no particular order we have Seoni from Reaper Miniatures. I had no idea it was a 'named' character from a particular game world. I just saw her as a dancer or something.

Next an evil magic user from Otherworld Miniatures. I'm pretty sure this model was originally from elsewhere as I'm damned sure I recall it from quite a while back before OW got going. I think a few variants were available based on the same basic figure.

And another Otherworld model, this time a druid.

Onto a Darksword Miniatures piece. I don't know what character it's supposed to be but it's clearly an elf of one sort or other. The detail can be a bit fiddly on DS models but this one wasn't too bad.

Another Reaper model that yet again is a named character from a particular game world, and again I was clueless to so I went with my gut feeling and she ended up as a dark elf type.

Finally from this selection there's another Darksword piece. Bit awkward to paint due to the pose but it turned out quite nice. You lucky folks get to see tit and all here! Facebook pulled my last mini with it's tits out because their bots thought they were real chublies so I only posted a rear shot.

I also did a little more work to my Urban War Viridian shock marine. Just weathering and insignia and still trying to figure out what to paint on the shield that is now glued in place. Was going to paint some unit numbers a bit like the studio paint job but then thought I'd go with a unit insignia of some sort, then thought about just a camo pattern, and now back to the idea of numbers. I don't bloody know!

I also did a few bits for Crooked Dice. This time some cops. Various head options for these so plenty of versatility.

Also a pair of Otherworld Miniatures carnivorous apes. Rather fun to do and a nice change from my usual stuff.

And finally this week I've been working on a variety of pulp type models. Here are two, a female character from Statuesque Miniatures and a flamboyant agent from Crooked Dice.

And that's yer lot. Plenty of bits and pieces to come. More pulp figures, more fantasy and hopefully (finger crossed) I'll get that sodding shock marine done.

Random fantasy characters

Just a quick post this time around seeing as most of what I've got to show are just better pics of models I showed last time. A couple I didn't get to show are an Arabian dancer from Brother Vinni and an assassin from Dark Sword Miniatures. Had to fix up the assassin's feet as she'd been clipped off an integral base (bloody integral bases!!!).

Then it's just the other models from last post. Empire warrior priest, dwarf wizard (both GW), Fighter from Otherworld Miniatures and Lini which it turns out is by Reaper.

That's yer lot!

Guild Ball team and Urban War strike team

I meant to put out a blog post last week but general busyness resulted in that not happening, so this time there's quite a bit to show. No point faffing around so straight onto business.

Had a Guild Ball Fishermen team to paint up, a first for me as I've not done anything from that game before. To be honest I don't really know what it's all about beyond assuming it to be a fantasy football game. Being more familiar with Bloodbowl and it's copycats I was a little surprised at how small the team was. Kind of glad of the small figure count though as there was quite a bit of work to do. Resin models here although I've been told that metal versions are also available. Nice sculpts and pretty clean casting all round. These are digital sculpts but they still have a nice bit of chunk to them so they were good to paint up. Sometimes digital stuff can be a bit small and fiddly but not here. Only downside was the harpoons were all rather bent and no matter how many times I straightened them (in hot water) they always warped back a little. Still, they painted up nice enough.

I've also been squeezing in a little work here and there when the fancy takes me on my Urban War Viridian Colonial Marines. I can't remember whether I showed the mortar team I'd started but today I finished off the spotter so got some pics done.

Really chuffed to be able to get these bits and pieces done as I rarely manage to finish anything. These are just easy to do I find. Along with my other models it gives me a usable strike team I reckon. Had to take a group shot of everything so far.

I've got plenty of additional troops that I plan to add for a bit of variety. If I wanted to go nuts I could expand this beyond a mere strike team and into a full army but one step at a time.

This past week I've also been painting up some fairly random fantasy characters. These need basing and 'proper' pics doing but I may as well show them, they're already out there on the internet anyway.

An old 80's era Citadel dwarf.

An odd little character called Lini for Pathfinder.

A GW Empire warrior priest. Love the face on this model.

And finally another Otherworld Miniatures fighter. I've painted quite a few variants of this model and have lost track of how many I've done.

And that's the lot! A few more fantasy types to do next week and then probably onto some more Red Box Games stuff. Of course I'll try and do a little something on additions for my colonial marines too. Busy, busy, busy.

Otherworld Adventurers & Stuff

Not far off a month of no posting here but as anyone following me on Facebook will know I have been busy daubing stuff. First off, as the title says I've been painting more Otherworld Miniatures so I guess I'll throw some pics up and then go into the waffle. We've got berserkers, adventurers, familiars and a sorcerer.

I had planned on these being done much sooner to be honest but a combination of some taking longer than expected to finish plus a hefty dose of burn out creeping up on me throughout the year really made them drag on. My favourites were the berserkers although the familiars were rather fun. OSL and the shield design on the female paladin wore me down a bit. All 'new' models to me except the sorcerer which is my second version painted (not sure I ever posted the first one). If I'm honest I don't particularly care for that model, it's a bit confusing and 'busy'.

I mentioned being a bit burnt out this year. I guess it's something that hits most of us eventually. For me it's the kind of models I'm painting more and more. Things that are very detailed or maybe simple but very delicately detailed and requiring a lot of patience and concentration can get a bit draining over time. In the past I've had a mix of models that have helped lend a lot of variety to my workload but certainly this year and going back into last year it's been one tougher job after another. There have been a couple of what I thought would be easier jobs but when I'm distracted and lacking focus on those I know I'm clearly ready for a rest.

One thing I have really enjoyed this year has been resurrecting my Urban War Viridians. That bit of time I grabbed to retouch my old models and paint a couple of new ones was really satisfying. I think I've posting pretty much everything here but a few days ago I did finally manage to take some pics of my retouched and rebased saurian rider. It was only the base that needed finishing and then it sat gathering dust for a few weeks but here it is all tootled up.

The nice big GW oval base is far more stable than the old 50mm lipped base was. There is some pinning in the legs here though to ensure it doesn't droop under the weight of the model. I know the initial castings, of which this is one were prone to warp. Back when I assembled this I put a pin up through the foot, ankle and into the calf and another into the back of the knee and down the second section of the leg to strengthen those points. I still wasn't sure if it would hold so initially wedged a 'rock' under the raised foot. With rebasing I decided to just pin the raised foot. You can't see the pin unless you look closely for it. If I get time I'll definitely do more Viridians.

One thing I've been threatening to do for while is video tutorial type stuff. The camera I've been using for what must be a couple of years now was bought partly on the strength of its video recording capabilities. Not having a suitable lens or really knowing what kind of set up I needed stalled those plans but I finally decided to take one in the ass from my credit card and get a couple of bits of kit.

Here we've got a zoom lens and an extension tube. The lens as you may guess makes distant things look closer and the extension tube adds macro capability to a lens. Together it means I can have my camera placed out of my way, essential for painting, whilst being able to bring the image closer to fill the frame and show what I'm doing more clearly. I just need a couple of extra bits to make life easier, a holder for my tablet and an adapter to connect my camera to it (plus a software app) so I can see my cameras live view on the tablet in my eye line rather than having to keep looking away from what I'm working on to see my camera. At least I hope that'll be everything.

I think that's my lot for this post. Time to decide whether to have another large vodka and make tomorrow a problem or just play Sniper Elite V2.
