Norse Dwarves - Red Box Games

Recently I finished off a commission which had me painting a load of Red Box Games Norse dwarves. Anyone who follows me elsewhere will have seen some of these over the last year or two. Not much more I can say on them that I haven't likely said in the past so here's an image dump of stunty goodness.

RBG Norse & things I forgot to post

As the title says, I've got more Red Box Games Norse models painted as part of an on going and quite large commission. This is a set of multipart models equipped with two hand weapons a piece. I'm not sure if these are currently available as they weren't in the RBG web store when I checked the other week. Could have been from a Kickstarter some time ago. Anyway, really powered through these to get them done in double quick time as there are more models waiting to be done for this army.

Then there are a couple of things that I forgot to post from previous weeks. There's another set of Copplestone Castings Tupi warriors from another casual on going commission. I've already done a few sets of archers and a set of chieftains. This time it's warriors with whatever those weapons are called.

Finally there's a pair of GW Black Library characters, Max Schreiber and Snorri. I've already painted Felix and Gotrek, and the female character whose name escapes me right now so these were commissioned to go with those models.

Both models were sent to me in original foil packs but there was a hilarious packing error with Snorri. I tore the top off the packet but rather than a violent dwarf being inside, two Cadian Lieutenants dropped out onto my desk top! Bemusing, hilarious and rather gutting for the owner. No chance of getting a replacement from GW on a 12 year old OOP model. Thankfully one was found on Ebay but was missing the base which I ended up cobbling together myself.

Red Box Games Norse

A quick post to show some recent Red Box Games Norse I painted. These are part of a much bigger commission that long time followers will likely have seen me working through over quite some time now. There's also a Hasslefree Miniatures figure in there, Ynjen who fits in quite nicely.

Still more to do but onto other things next week.

Red Box Games Njorn Hirdmen

It's been a little while since my last post but I wanted to wait until I'd finished this set of models completely before posting anything. As the title says it's more RBG stuff and long time followers and those with a good memory may notice that these are part of an ongoing commission. I've lost track of how many Njorn/Norse types I've painted as part of this job but even with these there are more still to come!

Anyway, onto the models which personally I don't think are RBGs best. They're multi-part models so come with separate heads and weapon hands. There are five different bodies and heads. I was initially a bit surprised at how flat the bodies were. I've kind of seen a bit of that in other models from RBG but these are very two dimensional looking. Once painted though it wasn't quite so obvious so that's good. I found the heads to be a poor fit on the bodies as well with some only really fitting anywhere close to comfortably on certain bodies. That kind of defeats the purpose of having separate heads. A couple needed trimming down before fitting them as well as they looked like they had a couple of extra vertebrae. All needed gap filling. I'm sure the short spears have a real world equivalent but I find them a little odd being so used to seeing models with longer weapons.

Griping aside, here are the models.

Like I say, I have more to do. There are another ten of these but with hand weapons instead and then some better quality characters. I'll have a bit of a change and do some other bits first though as the limited range of colours used on them can get a little dull after a few models.

RBG & Hasslefree Norse

A mere fortnight since my last post?! Looks like I'm on top of things for a change! Another batch of Norse here and a familiar colour scheme (well, shield design/colour scheme) to anyone who has been following along and can remember back to... a while ago. Red Box Games Norse and a pair of Hasslefree Norse types that fit in pretty well.

Originally I painted the shield of the male Hasslefree character entirely with metals and I planned to do the same with the female one too (I did the same on a previous paint job of that model). However, it just didn't look right. Looked a bit phoned in and didn't tie the model in with the RBG models. I went onto do a colour shield on the female fighter and that worked for me so I went back and repainted the male fighter's shield to match. Looks much better now. Sometimes you have to accept that something needs changing, take that 'D' in the 'A' and put the extra time in to produce something you're happy with.

Next up will be more random fantasy characters and I'm still trying to do more work on my Urban War colonial marines. Got a shock marine under way. Made several attempts at freehanding an insignia and failed every time last night so hopefully another day will prove successful. Once that's done I can do some wash work and weathering.
