Jalie Sweetheart

I didn't have to be anywhere today, and the weatherfolks told us to expect severe thunderstorms, so I decided to do SOMETHING in the sewing room. At first, I just surveyed the clutter. I then cleaned the clutter off the cutting table and decided to make a T. I've had this fabric for at least a year. I think it came from Super Textiles, but I'm not sure. It's a rayon (which I love) knit.

At first I was going to try a new T pattern--one I had traced from a 2006 BWOF. BUT, I decided if I wanted instant gratification, I'd better not "test" a new pattern, so I brought out the Jalie Sweetheart. It has been a while since I sewed this pattern, but it went pretty quickly. I did have some problems with tunneling on the coverstitch hems, but I finally got that under control.

I raised the neckline about 3/4 - 1" so as not to worry about it being too low.

A finished project--and a new colorful T. It's been a good day!

Fabric Added to the Stash

Since I'm not able to sew yet, I succumbed to buying fabric. I have limited myself. Really. I had some in the cart at Fashion Fabrics Club and then closed it out without buying and I drooled over some at EmmaOneSock............but didn't order. So, it could have been worse!

It's been two weeks since my foot surgery. Things are doing very well. Because I have to keep my foot elevated alot, sitting at the sewing machine or standing to trace or cut out patterns is still on the back burner.

I had a doctor appointment this morning for the stitches to be removed. That went OK. Some of them didn't want to slip out easily so I got a bit light headed (and green), but I made it through.

My fabric haunts were on the way home from the doctor's office. I decided to reward myself by stopping at a couple of them for a quick walk-through. Nothing grabbed my attention at the first stop, but I did find some things at Super textiles.

I picked up four pieces; two wovens for shirts (since I've been on this Burda shirt kick for a while) and two knits--one for me and one for DGD.

Black and white stripe and the purple multi-color stripe are destined to be shirts (at least for now, anyway); the red rayon knit is for a "T" for me; the other stripe which is really navy and a lime green (it's not showing that way on my monitor) is for a top for DGD.

The navy/green knit is ruffled.

The following three cuts are from Fabric.com--red silk dupioni--another blouse plan; purple (which is showing royal blue on my monitor) silk/rayon with nothing particular in mind right now; and black/gray rayon for slacks. These arrived last week.

Red fabrics are in the washer now so they will be ready when the foot is willing to use the foot pedal!

Recuperating is a bit boring

Hi all. Just wanted to pop in and let you know I'm doing well. Surgery went well, and Iwas sent home with a lovely bandaged foot enclosed in one of those wooden type shoes with velcro closings that wrap around the foot. I asked for hot pink, but black was the only selection. Oh well.............

Am following orders by keeping it elevated and iced. The first couple of days, I took the heavy duty pain meds that made me sleep most of the time, but was able to give them up and just take Advil at prescription strength doses.

I should be knitting or something, but I've mostly watched mindless TV.

My knitting friends are coming here in the morning to visit and bringing pastries; that will be fun, and I'm sure I'll knit some in between conversation.

Back to doctor this Wednesday. Hope to get bandages off and sutures out so I can take a real bath/shower again!

Foot surgery in the morning

This time tomorrow morning I should be off in lala land having my foot sliced and diced. The bunion is to be removed and something else having resulted from carrying it around so many years.

I'm confident that things will go well. This doctor did surgery on my cousin, (yes, we got the same hereditary bunions, thank you very much!) and he did well and continues all his golfing and bowling.

Not sure how long I might be out of the sewing room. I have some knitting sitting that needs attention, so I may get to that. I have plenty of things to read. And, I know I will be stalking all your blogs to keep the sewing spirit alive!

I'll post an update as soon as I'm able..................
