Finger knitting

I taught K to finger knit the other day.  He actually did surprising well.  I wasn't sure if he would understand the weaving part.  The only problem was that the 2nd he got it he was bored and wanted to run off to do something else.  Oh well.  Perhaps in another 6 months we can try and re-visit.  The top picture is his finger knitting and the 2nd picture is what he decided to do with it.  This is hanging from our ficus tree in the living room.

Finished sweater

Here is L in the sweater I made him. I never did add buttons. I'm not convinced it needs them.

Knitting my first sweater

I am loving knitting this sweater. I'm already obessing about my next sweater, and my next, and my next. Its hard to tell from the picture but I only have the right front panel left. I better hurry though because L is getting big fast.

Welcome baby boy!

Our new baby boy, L, is here. He was 11 days late and 9lb 7oz. His brother has been loving all the tiny baby hugs and snuggles. Here they are in their matching pink gnome hats. K insisted that I knit L one after I finished his. :)

Pink Gnome hat.

K requested this pink gnome hat. He even picked the yarn. Now he is begging for his brother to have a matching hat. I dearly hope I don't finish it before the baby gets here. :)

A knitted bonnet for baby

Here is the bonnet I just knitted for the baby. Now he just needs to come out and try it on. :) I love the little leaf button on it. :)

So here we are 6 days post the baby's due date. Not so much fun. Anyway the later he is the more knitting I've been getting in. Here are some booties I made him that match the socks I made for myself a while back.

Knitted nest

The nest upside down

Found this great pattern at: http://naturalsuburbia.blogspot.com/search/label/Knitted%20Nest
Then I wet felted the eggs for all the nests. These nests are for an Easter swap.

First Knitted Socks

I finished my first pair of knitted socks. I used circular needles and it was actually much easier then I thought it would be. I ended up with a lot of extra yarn so I think I'm going to knit the baby a matching pair.

Socks!

Now that my Zebra is finished I was free to start something new. I'm excited to be knitting my first thing for myself! I had to buy a little book to get my started on circular needles and knitting in the round. I've only just begun but I am really enjoying it. Hopefully I'll have an updated photo soon of a completed sock.
K asks me constantly, "thats a sock?"

Knitted Zebra

I've finally finished a project that has been lingering for months. I knitted the zebra with self striping yarn which I think gave it a really neat effect. If it hadn't taken me so darn long to finish the first one I'd make another to see how totally different they would come out.
I also used pipe cleaners this time around for the legs. My last animal (the elephant) was not so lucky and he's not able to stand on his own. I'm thinking about going back and ripping out his legs to fix him.
K and I have been talking about some polar animals to add to his collection next. He is really excited about a polar pear and penguins.

Knitted Elephant

I knitted K this elephant over the last couple of weeks. I love the yarn and hope to have enough to make another animal. Perhaps a rino or a hippo. So here is K's reaction to receiving the elephant.
Looking at the tail he says, "whats this?"
me - "a tail."
Looking at the legs he says, "whats this?"
me - "legs"
K - "oh boy" (said in a oh crap type of tone).

Sewing Bear

My mom found a wonderful sewing bear for 25 cents at a mom-to-mom sale. I've been trying to find one for a while as K has been expressing lots of interest in sewing and knitting lately. Here we are sewing together for the first time. I think he was pretty excited to finally be able to participate.

Another Knitted Chickeno

After knitting K's first chicken I just felt like you can't just have one chicken. Right? I dug through my yarn and found this great brown. This time I also use more of the wool felt. I really love this yarn. :) I think he might need a rooster now.

Knitted Snail

I've recieved my final Spring swap item from my local group (one mom couldn't make it and had to bring her swap items over later). I love this knitted snail! He is sitting on our nature table right now, but I think I'll eventually add him to K's basket of animals to play with. This reminds me. I should take a new nature table photo. It has changed a lot since my last one.

Knitted Chicken

The other night while watching a little tv with Casey I knitted up this chicken. I just gave it to K and he is wondering around the house saying, "bocka bocka bocka." Silly boy.

Knitted Gator

A couple of weeks ago I was stuck during K's nap with most of my craft supplies in the room he was sleeping. So I started this knitted alligator. I think I'm going to put him in K's Easter basket. This was the first pattern I have knitted from a book I borrowed from my cousin. I'm super happy about how it turned out and am excited to try another animal. I think I may make chickens next.

Knitted Turtle Finally Done

Finally after several months the turtle is done. I have put way more time into this little guy then I thought I would need to. Having to stitch together, rip out, and stitch back together is shell over and over didn't help much.
So I fully expected K to totally ignore the turtle. He really has no interested in stuffed animals. However, when C handed him the turtle when he woke up in the morning K actually played with it. He was pointing out the eyes and legs and was tipping him upside down and going, "uh ho!" How he knows turtles should not be upside down is beyond me.

Making progress with the turtle

really

I've been working on this knitted turtle forever. I have finally finished the knitting part only to find out that putting it together is so much harder. Here are all the pieces. the top is the shell and the bottom is the tummy, tail, feet, and head. I've gotten some of it together but what a pain this is to figure out. Anyway hopefully I'll have a complete photo tomorrow and then I can get started on trying to knit some farm animals.
OH and I'm really excited that my friend who is a crochet expert is coming to visit this month. Hopefully she'll be able to get me started. :)

Knitted Quilt

I learned to Knit not too long before I became pregnant with K. I learned at my grandmother's sleepover party by my cousin Kate. (thanks Kate!). When I got home I became obsessed and began making lots of scarves. When I found out I was pregnant I decided to knit the baby a blanket, however, I also wanted to combine it with learning all different stitches, so I made K a tactile patchwork blanket. It was a ton of fun to make and I actually finished it just a couple of days before he was born.
