Free crochet pattern - Cheeky Kitty

Here comes my new free amigurumi pattern for a wide-eyed and playful little kitten. I created the Cheeky Kitty pattern for a recently published amigurumi bookazine called "Adorable Animals: Cute Crocheted Characters" (published in UK) where it was featured with 11 other cute and easy amigurumi patterns. You can get your copy of the bookazine from MyHobbyStore.

The story of this kitten started already 1.5 years ago when I crocheted two stripey cats as baby rattles. After that the kitten "evolved" a little - I wanted to keep the smiling face and big eyes but changed the concept of the body (blog post about animal baby rattles). The publisher of the bookazine contacted me last fall and asked me if I would be interested in writing a pattern for the amigurumi publication. She loved the kitten's wide eyes and cheeky expression and we decided that I make a pattern for this kitten.

Siit tuleb minu uus tasuta heegeldamise juhend, mille järgi saab teha omale suurte silmadega vahva kassipoja.

It is an easy pattern and suitable also for beginners. The finished amigurumi cat is about 11 cm (4.3") tall if you use similar yarn and crochet hook. You can make smaller or larger cats by using bulkier or finer yarn. Do not forget to adjust the crochet hook accordinlgy. You can make the cat also without the stripes, for this just ignore the colour changes and continue with the same yarn. Have fun and I hope you enjoy the pattern!

Free crochet pattern - Tiny Fuzzy Halloween Kitten

Be the first to comment!
It has been a year since I made my first attempt to write a crochet pattern for a tiny amigurumi kitten. Halloween was just coming and I thought that a cute and scary fuzzy black kitten would be a great idea for a free pattern. Now I have gained much more experiences and I have established my own pattern writing style. Therefore the pattern needed a little update. I changed some bits a pieces here and there and also added some photos of the process. The pattern itself is an easy one but using black fuzzy yarn makes it a bit tricky. It is really hard to keep track of the stitches but fortunately you cannot see the mistakes later. Although, if something goes terribly wrong and you need to unravel a couple of rows, it is almost impossible (at least with the yarn I used).

***

Väga keeruline on aru saada, kus mingi silmus on, kuid õnneks pole vigu hiljem näha. Kuigi, kui midagi peaks ikka väga valesti minema ja mõni rida on vaja üles harutada, siis on see üsna võimatu (vähemalt selle lõnga puhul, mida mina kasutasin).

I had at home a skein of brown and grey fuzzy yarn and I made two more kittens. The brown yarn was of the same type as the black fyzzy yarn but the grey was much fuzzier (I think it is also called eyelash yarn). Although the colour is lighter the grey yarn was even more difficult to work with. It felt like I was blind because I could not see any of the stitches. Actually I crocheted quite randomly and somehow I succeded to get a kitten out of it. This yarn was finer and I had to make some adjustments to the pattern to get the kitten the same size. I also tried out some different faces for the kittens. The grey cat has a pointier nose and I did not make the "vampire teeth". All the kittens are very soft and silky. My baby girl giggles every time I tickle her nose with the kitten's tail. My kids also like to hug and stroke the cats gently.

***

Inglisekeelse juhendi kassipoja heegeldamiseks leiad allpool.

Crocheted animal baby rattles

I have been very busy with writing my Emma doll crochet pattern (that is ready, by the way and in the hands of pattern testers right now. Yippee!!!) so I have had no time to post about the crocheted baby rattles that I finished recently. I got a custom order to make a baby shower gift for a family that became lucky parents for two sets of twins at the same time. How amazing is that! I was given free rein what to crochet. I have already had the chance to make my cat baby rattles as baby shower gifts a few times now, so this time I wanted to make something else. Also it was a good opportunity to try out some new ideas.

See andiski hea võimaluse uusi ideid proovida.
When I was a child I always had this weird thought that cats are female and dogs male as well as that bears are male and bunnies are female. I do not know why it was like this but I know that I was not the only one. The same girl who ordered the baby toys supplemented the list with tigers being female and lions male. :) Of course now I know better but I was still motivated by this childish idea when crocheting the baby animals. As there are two boys and two girls in this family I made the kitten and the bunny with more traditional girl colours and puppy and bear with boy colours.

All the baby animals have been crocheted with 100% cotton yarn, they are about 11 cm (4.3 inches) tall and have a rattle inside. I made for the baby rattles also a colourful gift box and a card.

About cats again

Lately I have been crocheting a lot of cats and now I would like to share my latest cat creations with you. This time it was a custom order. The initial task was to crochet two little amigurumi animals as a gift for a kindergarten teacher who was expecting twins. The gender of the unborn babies was unknown and that made the task a little more complex. I have had a plan to crochet a baby rattle for a while now and this gave me a good chance to finally make it happen. I drew some sketches of bunnies and teddy-bears but eventually decided in favour of twin cats.

I got the inspiration from Libero diapers. There is a picture of cute cats with stripes on them and I see the cats every time I change my baby's the diapers. To keep the colours neutral and suitable for both boys and girls I made the cats grey and used purple and green for accent. I used again my favourite yarn - 100% cotton Drops Muskat and stuffed the toys with polyfill. The rattle is a Kinder Surprise toy capsule filled with glass beads (I have these in loads at home from the time I used to make beaded jewellery). To make a little different noise I used smaller seedbeads for one cat and a little bigger ones for the other.

The cats are 14 cm tall and easy to grasp for a baby. I tested it with my own 10-month-old and she liked them. She grasped the cat, smiled at it and started to shake it to hear the rattle noise.

I wrapped the cats in a paper giftbox, decorated it with a crochet flower and also made a simple baby shower card. I hope the person likes the gift made just for her and her babies enjoy the toys.

***

Here, kitty kitty...

Recently I saw a video in Youtube about the cutest little kitten ("Most Innocent Kitten Alive" - look it up!) and it inspired me to crochet a couple of kittens. The first one I made as a birthday gift for my daughter's friend who just started first grade. It is tiny and can be used as a key chain or a bag charm. Little girls like all kinds of bric-a-brac and of course it had to be pink.
