Windy Day on the Space Needle

Seattle, Washington ~ November 6, 2014

Somebody was enjoying the windy day at the top of Seattle's landmark attraction. I don't know who she is, but this girl and a couple of other kids were having the time of their lives running back and forth on the deck above the Emerald City.

Violet with Spots

Tacoma, Washington ~ April 22, 2005

I don't know what this is. It's violet, it has spots. I think that's a good recommendation any day.

Windows, Seattle

Seattle, Washington ~ May 5, 2008

Look what someone did with a curve and some crinkles. I still love the old windows best, and will look for a few more among my archives before I move on, but I do like what this architect did with shapes against the sky.

The Blue Columbia River

Oregon ~ September 2, 2003
A View from the Multnomah Falls Trail

The trail is about a mile long from the parking lot to the falls. On September 2, 2003, my friend Kate and I were huffing and puffing our way to the top. That's Washington on the other side of the river. I took the photo with my little old Olympus Digital. It did very well under conditions like this one.

Shaggy Cows

Washington ~ January 25, 2010
Along the I-5 Corridor near Battle Ground

I got a nice close-up view of the bucolic scenery along I-5 when I had to walk to get a gas can while my passenger was hitching to the airport. Francisca may remember this. I was so embarrassed, but it was a pleasant walk on a sunny winter day. I'm glad it wasn't pouring rain, and a Good Samaritan not only got her there on time, but came back to make sure I was OK!

Imposing

Port Townsend, Washington ~ September 21, 2003
Jefferson County Courthouse

Looking more like something designed by Louis Sullivan for construction in Chicago, this imposing Romanesque building cannot help but catch one's attention as they pass by. When I looked it up online, I found Stan Rule's blog, which in turn links to a PDF file about the building's history. (Gotta love the Web, yes?) You might also enjoy Port Townsend Daily Photo.

Nirvana in Raymond

Raymond Theatre Raymond, Washington ~ August 28, 2010

You just never know. Yesterday evening, as we were driving back to Astoria from visiting the Point Defiance Zoo in Tacoma, we turned off the narrow highway to have a look at the town of Raymond (population 2,975 in the year 2000). We hadn't expected to see this charming theatre, which has clearly been restored with loving care. You can see its web site here. Too bad about the modern marquee, but overall, it makes a striking impression. It seems that the grunge band Nirvana played its first gig here in 1987. Who knew?

Sea Lion and Salmon Bench, Tacoma

Sea Lion and Salmon Bench Tacoma, Washington ~ August 28, 2010
Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium

The sea lions and salmon seem to get along pretty well on the bench outside the entrance to the Point Defiance Zoo in Tacoma, Washington, but don't expect the salmon to be smiling when the two species meet in local waters.

Camouflage

Camouflaged Fire Hydrant, Point Defiance Zoo Tacoma, Washington ~ August 28, 2010

Can you find the fire hydrant? Of course you can, but I didn't see it when I took this photo of the interesting rock formation near the entrance to the Point Defiance Zoo. I only noticed it on the way back around after visiting the tapirs, tigers, lowland anoa, and some other critters.

A Salmon in Tacoma - Imagine That!

Salmon Sculpture, Tacoma Tacoma, Washington ~ May 22, 2004

If I remember correctly, this was right outside a very good sushi place, although I don't think there was any connection.

Wings, Horns, Antlers, Hooves

Tacoma, Washington ~ May 23, 2004
Tacoma Art Museum

Unfortunately, I didn't take a photo of the sign explaining who, what, when. I only captured the sign that said not to touch. What a necessary pity - I'll bet it feels amazing.
