Yellow Earth

Outside Bisbee, Arizona ~ December 28, 2004

It was hard to picture my grandparents living in this small, isolated town in the 1920s, but my grandfather had just left the Coast Guard and graduated from the Colorado School of Mines. He had gotten a degree in mining engineering, and Bisbee was all about mining.

They tried to raise two little boys here, but they soon left. One of the reasons my grandmother gave was that it was too hard on her chasing my dad and uncle up and down the hill that Bisbee was built on. I can imagine.

From the Belvedere, Ravello

Ravello, Italy ~ April 19, 2004

I think this is a good picture to begin the year: a far horizon, romance, more than a hint of adventure, and a lot of clean, blue space for dreaming.

Photos from Italy 2004 are dated about one day off starting with some of my posts in 2012. This is due to a problem with the date stamp in the JPG file. It was taking too long to figure it out each time, so I've gone with the date on the photo. In case this should ever matter.

Flying Frigate, Made for Soaring

Sayulita, Mexico ~ February 10, 2007

I love the way these oddly-built birds look against the sky.

Off the Path

Panama ~ January 9, 2006
Near the town of Volcán

A mistaken turn or fork in the road near the town of Volcán in western Panama brought us this delightful vista, which we would otherwise have missed.

Dark clouds

Boat and Islands off Sayulita, Mexico Islands off of Sayulita, Mexico ~ February 10, 2006

We actually tried to snorkel along the rocks here, but the water was rough, and we couldn't see much. It was an interesting experience, though. I'd do it again.

Enjoy Watery Wednesday around the world. Share the fun!

Cattle guard

Central Oregon ~ January 1, 2010
Highway 26 between Bend and Portland

The weather and sky were oh, so changeable as we crossed the high desert, skirted Mt. Hood, and dropped down into Portland on New Year's Day. Much of the time we were literally chasing a rainbow, but at this moment the blue sky and shredded cloud were what caught my attention.

Piazza del Popolo

Piazza del Popolo, Rome, under dramatic skies Rome, Italy ~ April 14, 2004

This charming piazza was only a few blocks from our hotel, and we enjoyed visiting often. It was surrounded by interesting avenues and churches and - what a view! Lee sat and drew a few times. I carried my camera, and was delighted to see this wonderful sky one day when we passed by.
