Long Weekend

Taking a little break from the ... break.

In case you're bored and have absolutely nothing better to do, below are a few links that might keep you busy for at least a little while.

Yellerstone has links to their webcams hereOld Faithful is the first one on the page (ignore the out-of-date prediction).  Scroll down for several others.

Into architecture?  Hey, who's not?!?!  Virtual tours of Frank Lloyd Wright works are posted here.  Scroll down to find them.  If they're keeping up with the schedule, a third video should be posted sometime today.

Interested in what a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail is like?  My journal starts here.  Just click on the "next" button to go from post to post.  Plenty of others if you click the Appalachian Trail link toward the top left.  Then, just chose a year and explore!

Did you miss old posts with excuses for missing practices?  Start reading here and use links within that post to view more.  They were entered each as they were posted, so don't give me a hard time about the grammar and spelling.

Back in the day, this blog was frequented by a real turd.  He used to post idiotic & nasty comments.  Eventually, I'd had enough and posted the troll's IP Address (above).  In chronological order, here are those links:

Wrap yer minds 'round this one:

Gone Underground?

Guess who's back!

Fishin' pictures were pretty popular back in the day.  Above shot is from this post.  It's easy to find more.  Just click on the tag that says Fishin'

That's going to have to do it for this week.

This caught my eye in Leon's room.  He missed out on first place by a half inch:

Then release!  Easy as 1, 2, 4!*

Yes, Leon's a big Donald Trump supporter.  What gets me about conservatives who are anti-Trump is this:

Y'all have complained - for 7+ years - that Obama is the worst president ever.  Now y'all act like the world will come to an end if Donnie ends up in the White House.  Where's the logic in that?  Ask yourselves how he can possibly be worse than what you've had.

Y'all ain't here fer poly-ticks now, is ya?  Yer here fer jobs, right?!?!  Here's what's new since the last jobs post a couple of weeks ago:

Belton's Savannah Henry (daughter of Patrick & Wendy) recently signed with Southern Illinois University.  Read more here and here.

“It means I get four more years of doing what I’m really passionate about doing and what I spend so much time doing,” Henry said of signing with the Salukis. “I have some family ties there but also it’s a great school with a great team that’s on the rise and working hard and it’s something I wanted to be a part of.”

Wonder about our top athletes and their post-race recovery routines?  Read more at USA Swimming here

After a race, hopping in for a good cool down and grabbing a snack and a recovery drink are nearly universal practices. Massage is more common at the elite level for older athletes, and cold water immersion is growing in popularity. There is a hierarchy of recovery practices, and it is probably never a good idea to sacrifice something at the top of the list for something on the bottom.

Latest on Austin Aquatics & Sports Academy with Brendan Hansen is here.

Hansen loves to joke around, but I have a sneaky feeling that the hammer drops when you’ve been training with him a few weeks. It wasn’t until the hour-and-15-minute session was nearly over that Hansen doled out a nice lung-burning sprint set, reminding us that “sometimes I like to drive fast.” He’s coaching the masters program now, but says he’s looking for a world-class coach to take over that program while he focuses on the club program.

Sharkin'

Leon and his buddy Dalton reeled in a couple of sandbar sharks the other night.

Pic is of the 7'2"-er.

In case you're new here, don't worry about the shark.

They catch-n-release.

That way, you'll have the thrill of swimming alongside one next time you're at the beach...

-athon Wrap-Ups

Kayaking multiple lines/baits hundreds of yards out paid off for Leon and Steven.  Of the four sharks they landed, the 6'10" bull shark was the second largest in the 2012 Sharkathon tourney.

Bobby was one of many swimmers taking part in the annual Marathon Kids event at UT.
