Xerox Ferox : The Wild World of the Horror Film Fanzine

I love books - especially big ol' horror/cult movie books. Unfortunately they've been kinda few & far between in recent years, but Xerox Ferox : The Wild World of the Horror Film Fanzine an upcoming release from Head Press seems to be a very cool book. Author John Szpunar knows his stuff as he was the guy behind the sadly now defunct Barrel Entertainment (with who I will always be in debt to for releasing that awe inspiring Last House on a Dead End Street DVD). I also found it listed on Amazon and there's some sample pages over at the Classic Horror Film Board
Weighing in at 500 pages (!!) this looks be a wonderful history of pre-internet video collecting by way of those neat old fanzines. You'd wait patiently for a new issue of ETC, Sleazoid Express, ECCO, Psychotronic Video, Gore Gazette, or Videooze (among many others) to show up in your mailbox (or maybe you were lucky enough to pick them in person at a Chiller Theatre Convention). Once you you had devoured it from cover to cover then came the perusing of mail order catalogs or maybe hooking together your two VCR's to do some trading (then patiently waiting for a multi-gen pan & scanned Greek subtitled copy or such to show up).
Some of them such as Video Watchdog & Little Shoppe of Horrors are still around (heck you can buy Shock Express at Barnes & Noble) while others such as Temple of Schlock are still alive on the internet.
With the upcoming release of Empire of the B's : The Mad Movie World of Charles Band and hopefully not too much more long for Stephen Thrower's Jess Franco book (and Nightmare USA Vol. 2) this is a good time to be a cult movie fan & book geek.
