UNMASKING THE PHANTOM!

This year marks the 100th anniversary of Universal's THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. I'll be posting material about it here and there throughout the rest of the year to celebrate the occasion.

Today I'm posting a feature from FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND #28 (May 1964) that shows the unmasking sequence, largely regarded as the most frightening scene in horror film history.

Looking for a little more Gothic Romance in your life? Here's the second issue of GOTHIC TALES OF LOVE (June 1975) from Curtis Publications. I don't know how Stan Lee got roped into it, but he's listed as the publisher.

Susan Richard (b. 1933, d. 2006) is a pseudonym of Julie Ellis (aka Joan Ellis), who also wrote mysteries and crime fiction, as well as softcore lesbian novels for Midwood Books.

I couldn't find any biographical information on Anne-Marie Bretonne or Virginia Wells.
