EC'S CRIME ILLUSTRATED NO. 1 (PART 1)

Bridging the gap between pulps and comics was this effort by EC. First published December 1955, it was reprinted by Russ Cochran in 2006. One of their experimental "picto-fiction" line, these titles used illustrations with a text story and dispensed with word balloons and panel borders. The stories were written by Al Feldstein, Jack Oleck and others and art was provided by Joe Orlando (cover and 1 story), Bernard Krigstein, Reed Crandall and George Evans. Unfortunately, the magazine-sized book lasted only two issues due to poor sales.
