Meeting up with the creature known as a "Jenglot" is no fun -- especially for a group of young, good-looking students who are planning a relaxing vacation at Pantai Selatan ("South Beach"). What they get instead is a heavy dose of high-octane horror from the ancient, diminutive but devilish vampire-demon in the Indonesian-lensed JENGLOT PANTAI SELATAN, or BEACH CREATURE, or CREATURE OF SOUTH BEACH . . .

The combination of exotic locale, little-known but intriguing indigenous monster, and to say nothing about the bikini-clad beach scenery, especially a Horror Hottie by the name of Debby Ayu, makes this Saturday, March 12, 2011 entry the 5th most read post on MONSTER MAGAZINE WORLD.

DEBBY AYU: HORROR HOTTIE, INDONESIAN STYLE

Largely overlooked by the current monster magazine press is a film that promises to be a pretty good little Indonesian gore-fest called JENGLOT PANTAI SELATAN (a.k.a. BEACH CREATURE, DEMON OF SOUTH BEACH). While it has it's obvious inspiration from Alexandre Asa's PIRANHA, I'm sure it will have it's own character as so many Asian horror movies do.

One of the up-and-coming stars in the film is an attractive Indonesian girl by the name of Debby Ayu. Debby Ayu Novitasari Agustine was born on August 7, 1988, in Bandar Lampung (Lampung City), known as the gateway to Sumatra. Like any 22-year old young woman, Miss Ayu's favorite hobby is -- are you ready? -- shopping. She also likes surfing the 'Net.

Debby has already been in a handful of films and a number of promo photoshoots. It's easy to see why Debby Ayu is gaining more and more exposure. Let's hope that we can see more of her and her co-stars on a Region 1 DVD disc sometime soon!

DEBBY AYU: THIS BEAUTY'S A BEAST

Actress Debby Ayu is feautured in the latest Indonesian horror flick, JENGLOT PANTAI SELATAN (BEACH CREATURE for us non-island monster lovers). She starts off as any other bathing beauty seen sunning on the new South Beach resort with her young friends. But, just like a certain other film in recent memory, the fun will soon come to an abrupt, bloody end.

This time the little critter is in the form of a jenglot, a tiny malicious demon vampire from Indonesian folklore that appears complete with a bloodlust equal to any piranha on the screen. Miss Ayu appears to become obsessed to the point of being possessed by the jenglot, and goes from horror hottie to horrible hottie! Youch!

JENGLOT PANTAI SELATAN (BEACH CREATURE)

Randy, Temmi, Denisa, and Josh can hardly wait to enjoy their holiday fun on an exclusive beach -- South Beach – a stretch of virgin sand and sun, newly purchased by a young entrepreneur and to be developed as a tourist attraction. No one suspects, though, that in one of the nearby villages a strange creature will emerge, a creature which they call a jenglot, and that it thirsts for human blood. The captured jenglot is thought to be the protector of South Beach. The Jenglot is released back into the sea. Not long after, it begins to hunt down anyone who defiles the sanctity of the beach.

That means that the party-going group of college-types who have swarmed on to South Beach to shake their booty and get their freak on are acting decadently enough to rouse the “protective instinct” of the jenglot. Since this is a horror movie, you know what that leads to, don’t you?

JENGLOT PANTAI SELATAN (BEACH CREATURE in English), is a brand-new monster movie from Indonesia. The film is directed by Rizal Mantovani, who seems to be positioned for the moment as the reigning king of Indonesian horror. While BEACH CREATURE appears in every respect to be capitalizing on the recent Stateside success of PIRANHA 3-D, it also looks like it carries with it enough Asian influence to add a touch of that special something that only an Asian horror film can deliver. Frankly, I can hardly wait to see it on disc.

The film is produced by MAXIMA PICTURES and distributed by DREAMSCAPE PICTURES.
