SO YOU WANT TO WRITE A HORROR STORY?

Take it from me, writing horror is not easy. I do not consider myself a pro by any means but I've had enough horror fiction published occasionally over the years that I know how hard it can be. Hell, writing isn't easy, period. You get this "great" idea, and when you start writing you find out you actually have to crank out not only a decent word count, but a cohesive story with some substance to it. Anybody who says the writing process is easy is probably not from this planet.

The October issue of THE WRITER magazine offers a few hints on making your horror story ideas happen. But remember, the best way to become a horror writer is to -- you guessed it -- write. Good luck!

SO YOU (STILL) WANT TO WRITE A HORROR STORY . . .

If you're interested, but still on the fence about jumping in and writing a horror story, this article from THE WRITER (November, 2020) might offer you a few tips about how to proceed.

In his feature, "All The Things I Wish I'd Known As A Beginning Horror Writer", Bram Stoker award-winner Tim Waggoner takes the reader through a number of topics about writing horror fiction, including the first, most important one: Don't be afraid to write horror.

As a published writer myself, I can offer one more tip that may save you some frustration if you're looking to place a story in a publication: Write your story first, then seek the market, not the other way around.

Good luck!
