Back in the '60's and '70's underground newspapers didn't have to be all about drugs, subversive politics and head shop ads. Many of the larger circulated papers sought to further legitimize their agendas by adding mainstream topics such as cinema to their content.

One example is this article about filmmaker George Pal from the August 20, 1971 Los Angeles Free Press. "The Freep" as it was dubbed by locals could often be called the alternative paper to the Los Angeles Times and Los Angeles Herald Examiner, where you could still get your lifestyle and entertainment fix.
