WHAT DO MONSTERS WANT FOR CHRISTMAS?

At this time of year, we know that kids like to sit on Santa's lap and recite their long list of things they want for Christmas. But, have you ever wondered what monsters want for Christmas? Most of them are way too big (or nasty) to sit on Santa's lap, so we never know. This two-pager from Marvel UK's FRANTIC answers the question.

Edited by Dez Skinn, FRANTIC was the UK's answer to the parody magazines that started way back with MAD, and which followed a multitude of copycat versions, none of which caught on quite like the legendary original from EC.

This issue from Winter 1979 includes humorous versions of several popular characters and TV shows from that time along with some Christmas gags. But one question still remains: where do we send the gifts to our favorite monsters? Ho! Ho! Ho!

GHOST STORY FOR CHRISTMAS

Well, dear readers, tonight is Yule Eve. I know most of you will be busy with family and friends (and maybe even some last minute shopping if you're a masochist), so I will keep my yammering short. Included today for your enjoyment if you care to take a timeout, is one of my favorite stories by M.R. James, "The Ash Tree" from his collection, "Ghost Stories of an Antiquary". I've read it numerous times over the years and it still has the power to send chills down my usually pretty tough spine. This is one of the BBC's Ghost Stories for Christmas productions from 1975. I have no idea why this is tagged as age-restricted, so the preview image has been blocked. Click on "Watch on YouTube" to view the video.
