BEFORE THEY WERE SCREAM QUEENS: ELKE SOMMER

Shown here is a photo spread of 18-year-old Berlin-born actress Elke Sommer from the Fall 1959 issue of MODERN MAN QUARTERLY (Volume 16). Identified as Elke "Summer" in the article, Miss Sommer was poised to become one of Hollywood's hottest imports of the 1960's. However, we wouldn't see her in any genre films until over a decade later, when she starred in BARON BLOOD (1972), LISA AND THE DEVIL (1973), and HOUSE OF EXORCISM (1975).

BEFORE THEY WERE SCREAM QUEENS: MONIQUE VAN VOOREN (PART 2)

Appearing as The Baroness in ANDY WARHOL'S FLESH FOR FRANKENSTEIN (1973), sultry Belgian Monique Van Vooren had already had a long career exploiting her physical talents in various media.

In the December 1961 issue of MODERN MAN (that's Betty McGowan on the cover), Miss Van Vooren displayed her attributes in a pictorial entitled, Monique Spoofs the Sex Bombs. She gives it the old college try, but in each case, nothing beats the original if you ask me.
