Rod Serling's second television anthology series, NIGHT GALLERY, ran from 1969 to 1972. The stories were decidedly less ironic and more sardonic than his previous series, THE TWILIGHT ZONE. Nevertheless, there were a number of memorable episodes that sprang from the typewriter keys of Rod Serling, Robert Block, Richard Matheson and others.
During the second and third season of the show, Universal sold a collection of posters painted by Tom Wright that were seen before each of the three stories from the episode. Moodily lit, and lurking in the background behind host Serling as he introduced the story were the "Night Gallery" of paintings with striking and often unsettling thematic images related to the tale.
Images of the 12-poster collection are presented here today and it's obvious they haven't lost their visual power. Many of them were painted over or partially revised for other works. Therefore, few of the originals have survived. Fortunately, we have the posters as a lasting legacy to the icons of Serling's NIGHT GALLERY.
