ART OF GEORGE WILSON COMING IN MARCH

Due to ship next month is Hermes Press' highly anticipated hardcover, "The Art of George Wilson". Wilson is responsible for defining the look of nearly every Gold Key comic with his magnificently-painted scenes. Besides the great art, I'm looking forward to learning more about him.

From the publisher:
What made many of the great adventure comics of the 1960s so attractive were their fantastic painted covers by artist George Wilson. Wilson's covers harkened back to the era of pulp magazines and were spectacularly eye-catching. He turned in efforts for literally hundreds of comics titles including: Classics Illustrated, The Twilight Zone, Ripley's Believe It or Not, Dr. Solar, Magnus Robot Fighter, Turok, Son of Stone and Star Trek, to name but a few. This new art book focuses on over 300 examples of his cover art and features numerous examples of Wilson's artwork scanned from the originals together with many of the book covers he created including his extensive run on Avon's The Phantom(as well as his work on the Gold Key version).

FAMOUS MONSTERS FEARBOOK VOL. 1 COMING FROM HERMES PRESS

Hermes Press is noted for their archival quality volumes that specialize in the field of comic art. Coming soon is a collection of the best from the latest incarnation of FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND. Included are articles and features, a cover gallery with variants and some material that was previously only available in limited quantities. The cover is by Rick Baker.

The price is a little steep At $59.95 only the most hardcore of collectors will spring for this, I imagine. Otherwise, if you've been buying FM's products for the last year-and-a-half, then you've got most of what's offered here. Nevertheless, this is certain to be a beautiful addition to any Monsterologist's bookshelf.

Here is the text from the Captain Company order page:

"Vol. 1 of the FM FEARBOOK features the best interviews, articles, and features from our first 18 months back from the grave (2010-2011)! DRACULA, GODZILLA, ISLAND OF LOST SOULS, Hammer Horror, Heavy Metal, they're all here. With interviews from Rick Baker, Steven Spielberg, J.J. Abrams, Haruo Nakajima, John Carpenter, and many more! Plus, for the first time ever, a cover gallery of all the FM covers from 250-258, variants and all. Includes selections from FM 250-258, Retro 70 and 71, Dark Arts vol. 1, Annotated #1, and FM Underground #1. Featuring rare Frankenstein's Monster cover by Rick Baker, previously only available in our limited edition Comic Con variant."
